Anonymous donor offers reward for Tori’s safe return

WOODSTOCK, Ont. - The mother of Victoria Stafford says an anonymous donor has offered to put up however much money is needed to bring the missing eight-year-old girl home.

Tara McDonald says police are looking into the offer, and she stresses that her daughter’s abductor has not contacted her family or investigators asking for a ransom.

Tara McDonald, standing with ex-husband Rodney Stafford, said during her daily news conference that money "was there" if a ransom was the motivation for Tori's abduction April 8.

"If you have our daughter and it's money that you want, there's someone who will give it to you," McDonald said. "It's there."

Victoria Stafford's mother thought renowned psychic Sylvia Browne had come to give her a clue about her missing daughter's whereabouts.

Instead, the mystery guest who requested to speak to Tara MacDonald Thursday afternoon is an anonymous person who is offering the eight-year-old child's captors a reward for her safe return.

I know she went in the limo with her boyfriend and best friend but does anyone else find it strange that she would go alone to a hotel room to meet a total stranger and stay there alone with this person for 2 hours??

For goodness sake he could have been a complete nutter!! We all know they come out of the woodwork especially in high profile cases!!

"It's ridiculous," said Dave Perry, a former Toronto police officer with 27 years experience.

Perry questioned the idea of ransom being part of the abduction at all.

"I find it odd she (McDonald) would be walking down that road, talking about ransom. Are they going to take that child from that family for money? A ransom, you have to have the ability to pay."

The focus on the investigation is likely still a family dispute, not a random kidnapping, Perry said.

"That's what I would be focusing on."
