False tips on Karissa ‘ disturbing’
Lack of solid leads frustrate cops in case of missing 12-year-old girl

BRIDGEWATER — Local police are becoming increasingly frus­trated with every day that pas­ses with no new leads on the whereabouts of 12-year-old Karissa Boudreau.

The Bridgewater girl has been missing since Jan. 27 and Sgt. John Collyer, the acting deputy police chief, says the number of legitimate tips inves­tigators are receiving is start­ing to dwindle.

“Today we haven’t received many calls at all," he said Sun­day.

“There have been no sight­ings, mostly just people calling to offer physical help in some way like search in certain areas and stuff like that. There’s a lev­el of frustration right now, for sure, but as investigators it’s our goal to solve this so that’s what we have set out to do."

No one has seen or heard from Karissa since her mother re­ported her missing. Penny Bou­dreau reported that her daugh­ter got out of her car in the park­ing lot of the Bridgewater So­beys while she was inside shopping for 15 minutes at about 5:30 p.m. last Sunday. She reported Karissa missing al­most three hours later, but Sgt. Collyer said Ms. Boudreau told police she first searched for her daughter on her own.

Mother renews plea for tips on missing girl.

The mother of a 12-year-old Nova Scotia girl who mysteriously disappeared after they argued in a grocery store parking lot is renewing her desperate pleas for just one telephone call from the missing child.

Penny Boudreau struggled through a brief statement on Friday, five days after her last moments with Karissa Paige Boudreau, saying she was "reaching out" to her daughter.

"Karissa, I just want to tell you that you have lots of people that love you and want you home," she said.

The distraught mother sat in the Bridgewater police station flanked on one side by Karissa's father, Paul Boudreau, and on the other by her common-law partner, Vernon MacCumber, while Karissa's aunts and an uncle stood behind her.

"Please just reach out to somebody. Please call us and let us know you're OK. We all love you," the mother said.

"I just want somebody to come forward, if not Karissa herself, but somebody, just to let me know where she is. It's hard not to know where your kid is."

The case is disturbing to veteran police officers in the area because previous incidents of missing pre-teens are usually resolved within days, and the weather was stormy and cold in recent days.

Cops: Not at standstill in murder

BRIDGEWATER — Sgt. John Collyer wants the public to know that just because police aren’t releasing any new information on the investigation into the murder of Karissa Boudreau doesn’t mean they aren’t making progress.

"We are very cognizant that the general public wants this wrapped up quickly," the Bridgewater police officer said Sunday.

"But it wouldn’t help anything if we rush and don’t do a good job here. We are certainly not at a standstill in this case; there are a number of avenues that we are investigating and tips are still coming in. We just want to make sure that when we head into court, we have all the t’s crossed and all the i’s dotted so we can finish this right."

Residents, family of slain N.S. girl prepare hundreds of bears for needy kids

BRIDGEWATER, N.S. — Hundreds of stuffed animals that formed a memorial for a young Nova Scotia girl are ready to be sent to children in need around the world.

Relatives of Karissa Boudreau's and residents of Bridgewater, N.S., spent the day placing up to 800 bears in boxes to be sent to traumatized children as far away as Afghanistan.

People gathered up teddy bears and other toys left at a roadside memorial on the banks of the LaHave River where Karissa Boudreau's body was found on Feb. 9.

Karissa's mother, Penny Boudreau, and other family members were helping volunteers package up the donated toys at a local mall.

One of the organizers says they will go to groups that deal with children in traumatic situations, like police, firefighters and the Red Cross.

Police have said the 12-year-old student was killed in what they call an isolated incident, but have made no arrests.

I have just read in a Swedish newspaper that Karissa's mum has been arrested for murdering her own daughter.

Poor Karissa, I really hope she will get the justice she deserves.
