Fraud mother may lose family home
The mother of Devon teenager, Scarlett Keeling, who was killed in India, may have to sell her home to avoid going to prison for benefit fraud.
Fiona MacKeown, 44, of Meddon, Devon admitted falsely claiming £19,000 in income support last April.
She was given an eight-month suspended jail term and ordered to repay the debt.
Earlier, a judge at Exeter Crown Court gave her six months extra to pay after hearing her smallholding may be sold.
The court heard that Ms MacKeown had been due to repay the £14,650 she still owes last week but had failed to make the deadline.

Goa police do not have list of drug traffickers
Panaji, March 17 (IANS) The police in Goa -- primarily dependent on tourism -- have no list of drug traffickers operating in the coastal state, home minister Ravi Naik told the state assembly Thursday.
Naik said this in a written reply during question hour, even though two Israeli drug dealers and seven police officials were arrested during last year for alleged links to the drug mafia.
Ravi Naik's son Roy too has been linked to the drug mafia by the international media and the opposition.
Naik replied in a terse 'No sir' to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Vasudev Gaonkar's query as to whether 'the police has any list of people involved in drug trafficking'.
To another question, asking Naik to spell out the names and number of drug peddlers 'operative' in the state, Naik said an answer to such a query could not be 'formulated'.
'No person can be said to be 'operative' as crime of drug peddling is a clandestine activity and there are no open traders of drugs,' he said.
'As such, giving the number of such peddlers operative in the state with their names and number of Indians and foreigners is not legally possible,' Naik said.
Several policemen as well as two Israeli drug dealers were arrested -- and subsequently released -- after a Swedish model and a former girlfriend of a drug dealer had uploaded incriminating videos on Youtube.
The model, Lucky Farmhouse, had also said in an interview to an Israeli newspaper that Naik's son had links with Yaniv Benaim alias Atala.
Fiona Mackeown, mother of slain British teenager Scarlett Keeling had also blamed Roy Naik of being linked to drug trade during the trial into her daughter's alleged sexual assault-cum-death.

Delay in viscera reports holds up foreigner deaths in Goa
Panaji, Mar 24 (IBNS) The ruling bench Thursday said that the Goa Government has not received viscera reports in most of the death cases involving foreigners, due to which investigations are pending.
In a reply tabled on the floor of the House in the on going budget session of the State Legislative Assembly, Home Minister Ravi Naik said that chemical analyses of 44 death cases is yet to be received from the Central Forensic Science Laboratories.
Nearly 161 foreigners have died in Goa in the last three years.
“We cannot reach to conclusion over the death of foreigners as the reports of chemical analyses of viscera are yet to be received,” Naik replied to a question by the Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar.
While 42 deaths of foreigners were registered by the police in 2008, the number was 65 in 2009 and 54 in 2010. According to the data, Calangute beach belt tops the death chart with 45 cases followed by 32 deaths of foreigners reported in Anjuna, 19 in Pernem, 18 in Colva, 17 in Canacona and 15 cases in Ponda.
Goa police have registered three murder cases including the sensational murder of the Brit teenager Scarlett Keeling Eden at Anjuna police station, Australian national John Kelly’s murder at Calangute police station and Nigerian Ganiyu Folahan Adesoye’s murder at Mapusa police station.
Goa lacks forensic laboratory and hence depends on laboratories outside the State.
Central forensic labs at Hyderabad, Mumbai and Chennai lately refused to accept viscera samples from Goa, after which Goa re-routed to Gujarat forensic lab that agreed to accept viscera samples with conditions.

Police inspector Nelson Albuquerque reinstated
Panaji, Mar 31 (PTI) Police inspector Nelson Albuquerque, who was suspended for compromising security at Goa's border check post during a terror alert in 2008, has been reinstated in service. Home Minister Ravi Naik told the state Legislative Assembly today that departmental proceedings against Albuquerque have been dropped. The reply tabled on the floor of the House said Albuquerque, along with two other constables, had failed in their duty inspite of specific instructions to be alert and vigilant in view of terrorist threat. Then Inspector General of Police Kishen Kumar, during a surprise check, had found the policemen accepting bribes to let vehicles enter Goa without a check. The check post was located on the Goa-Maharashtra border, a crucial point, which was on the alert. Incidentally, Albuquerque is brother of police sub inspector Nerlon Albuquerque, who was suspended for tardy investigation into the death of British teenager Scarlett Eden Keeling in 2008.

Goa minister’s sons draw salaries as personal assistant, pvt secy
A written reply tabled on the floor of the House by the Home minister mentions that his son Roy Naik is drawing a salary as the personal assistant while his second son, Ritesh Naik is being paid as a private secretary.
While Roy draws salary of Rs 19,904 monthly, his second son, Ritesh earns Rs 29,441. Their appointments are on an ad-hoc basis and have been cleared by the General Administration department. Both are shown as being attached to the office of the Minister for Home.
Interestingly, Roy came under scanner during the drug nexus investigation in Goa. Swedish model Lucky Farmhouse, former girlfriend of drug lord Yaniv Benaim alias Atala had said that Roy was frequenting their place at Anjuna beach.
Also, the 30-year-old was in news again when he was provided special security cover by the department.
The security review meeting held last year had approved him a Personal Security Officer (PSO) after notorious gangster Micheal Fernandes confessed of receiving contract to harm Roy.
British teenager Scarlett Eden Keeling's mother Fiona Mackeown had also told the Goa Children's Court that Roy was involved in drug dealing after her bruised semi-nude corpse was found at Anjuna shore on February 18, 2008.
