The ground search is over, but now Barrie Police investigators are probing more than 1,000 tips they have received relating to the disappearance of Brandon Crisp.
“It’s a bit of a needle in a haystack,” Sgt. Dave Goodbrand told The Advance. “We might get a small tip that we may feel is valuable and it could lead us in the right direction.”
Officers are researching the validity of all tips, he said, adding that numerous psychics and clairvoyants have come forward to offer information. “We suggest, if they have information they think is valid, to call it in. We have to be focused on tips we feel are related to Brandon.”
The case of the missing 15-year-old, who left home Thanksgiving Monday after being grounded from his Xbox, is now international news. The story is posted on America’s Most Wanted’s website.
A spokesperson for the weekly American television series said there aren’t plans to do a television story on Crisp’s case, but it would be considered if police fear he’s in the United States.
“The international coverage is great in the event that he’s left the country, but that wasn’t our focus,” said Goodbrand. “From the onset of this story, we wanted it to go at least national so if Brandon left Ontario on his own, or against his will, that he’d be located.”
The advantage of the story going international is that if residents don’t follow community news, they will still see Crisp’s face and hear the details of his Oct. 13 disappearance, Goodbrand noted.
Foul play isn’t suspected, and Crisp is listed as a missing person, he said.
Crisp’s mother, Angelika, says she is thrilled with the international attention.
“If he is across the border – I don’t think he’s out of the country – but if he is across the border, it will help,” she said, adding someone could have smuggled him in.
She thanks everyone who participated in the community search on the weekend, and said she’s glad it took place. Approximately 1,500 volunteers participated in the three-day search in Oro-Medonte.
“It’s a two-edge sword because part of me doesn’t want to find him that way, but the other part wants to find information that might lead to finding him. The support was so overwhelming.”
As far as what the public can do now, Angelika said the continued support is appreciated. She can’t even take a trip to the store without being stopped by a handful of people giving her their best wishes in finding her son.
One Toronto woman told the Crisps she has plans to set up a trust fund for the search. When Brandon returns home, the money will go to another family missing a child. “It just goes to show you that Brandon has a whole bunch of adoptive parents all over the country because this could happen to anybody’s child.”
Angelika said CBC’s Fifth Estate has been working on a story about the case but hasn’t confirmed an airdate. Maclean’s magazine has also taken pictures of the family, and should highlight the case in the next few weeks.
The Crisp family planned to attend a candlelight vigil today at the ball diamond near Line 2 of Oro and Ridge Road. Crisp’s friends plan to keep holding a vigil there every Monday at 6 p.m. until he comes home.
“It’s the most beautiful way to show him the community cares for and loves him,” his mom said.

This one was all for Brandon
Jaguars dedicate win to missing teen
Posted By IAN SHANTZ
Sometimes, it's about more than just the sport.
Sure, the top-ranked St. Joseph's Jaguars beat the sixth-seeded Central Phoenix, 46-37, to win last night's Barrie ExaminerCup junior girls city basketball championship on home court. And yes, the Jaguars were thrilled about successfully defending a title they also claimed last year.
But these teenagers had made up their minds long before last night's opening tip-off at St. Joseph's High School: there are more important things in life than a win or a loss on the hard-court, and they planned to show that.
"Since there was going to be so many people here, we thought we'd get it out there that we really want to find him," said Julianna Greco, one of 11 Jaguars players who played last night's final with the word 'Crisp' scrawled on the side of their legs. "It's kind of a way to show all the other schools that we do care, and we do want him to come back."
Brandon Crisp, a 15-year-old student at St. Joseph's, left his family's home in Barrie on Oct. 13. He has been missing since.
"I feel like this win was for Brandon," said Greco, a Grade 10 student who came up with the idea to show on-court support towards their fellow pupil. "We did it for him."
No doubt, last night's win was an emotional one for the junior girls, who attend a school that has been inundated by media attention since Crisp's disappearance, and, at times, overwhelmed by the situation.
Though their thoughts remain focused on bringing their schoolmate home, winning was a helpful exercise.
"Our school's been really down, and we're trying to lift our spirits up, so hopefully, this will help," said Stephanie Wakewich, who sank 15 points and was named the game's most valuable player.
"We just want to show our support for him," the 14-year-old added. "We really want him to come home, and we love him very much."
Jaguars head coach Charlene Wakewich said she couldn't have been any more proud of her players in the fact they recognized where the championship should rank on life's list of priorities.

Funeral set for Brandon Crisp
Written by Catherine Thompson
Funeral arrangements have now been made for Barrie teen Brandon Crisp.
Visitation for the 15 year old will be at the Worsley Street Chapel of the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home in Barrie on Thursday.
