3rd car found in canal in boy's kidnapping search‎

A sonar search has located a third vehicle in a Stanislaus County canal as authorities seek the car linked to a 4-year-old boy's kidnapping.

Sheriff's deputies say searchers found the vehicle around 11:30 a.m. Friday in the canal near Patterson.

Authorities are not sure what kind of vehicle it is and say it will take hours to pull out.

Searchers may ask the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation to lower the water level because the vehicle is caught between two tubes.

With few other leads, authorities return to search perilous water ; farmworker now says he saw two people in car on the bank.

Hanging on to the only credible tip they have, Stanislaus County authorities this morning will return to the rural canal west of here to comb the waters once more for a missing 4-year-old kidnap victim and his abductor.

Two cars were pulled from the cold, rushing water of the Delta-Mendota Canal on Friday, the second amid the glowing lights of law enforcement trucks and TV crews.

The end of the nearly 12-hour day produced no more clues into the disappearance of Jose Esteban Rodriguez and Juliani Cardenas.

Fifth car recovered in search for Cardenas‎

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department is downgrading the AMBER Alert for 4-year-old Juliani Cardenas.

It is no longer a statewide search and only includes the Central Valley and San Jose.

Divers suspended their search Saturday of a canal near the town of Patterson until Monday. Police say they believe a car linked to the kidnapping is in the canal.

Despite pulling out a fifth car Saturday, the sheriff says all leads point to that specific stretch of canal.

"We have a very credible witness. We just still haven't been able to locate the car yet and there's still work to do," said Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson.

Amber Alert Update: Canal Search Operations Suspended for 48 Hours‎

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department is giving their dive team a break, after about three days of searches for a 2003 silver Toyota Corolla.

Investigators believe Jose Rodriguez was driving that car when he kidnapped 4-year-old Juliani Cardenas.

Divers will stay out of the Delta-Mendota Canal for the rest of the weekend.

Amber Alert downgraded for missing Patterson boy‎

The Amber Alert broadcast throughout California in hopes of finding an abducted 4-year-old boy is now in effect only in the parts of the San Joaquin Valley and in San Jose, a Stanislaus County Sheriff's deputy said today.

Authorities on Saturday decided to downgrade the alert, concentrating the search for Patterson resident Juliani Cardenas and his suspected abductor, Jose Esteban Rodriguez, along the Highway 99 corridor between Stockton and Fresno and in and around San Jose, Stanislaus County Sheriff's deputy Royjindar Singh said.

"That's where the best concentration of his friends and family members are," Singh said. "He may try to contact one of those people."

Authorities received a report early Monday that a car sought in connection with the abduction of 4-year-old Juliani Cardenas may have been seen in Sacramento, but responding police did not find the vehicle.

Meanwhile, Stanislaus County sheriff's deputies have scaled back their efforts to find the boy, who was kidnapped from his grandmother's Patterson home on Tuesday afternoon. A statewide Amber Alert for the missing boy has been reduced to a local alert.
