Kyron Horman news: 'Kyron's Law' would require cameras at public schools

On Monday, a new petition began to circulate to pass a law, entitled “Kyron’s Law,” requiring all public schools and school buses to have security cameras. The law is named after Kyron Horman, who vanished over nine months ago.

Kyron, 7-years-old at the time, went missing on June 4, 2010 after attending a school science fair with his stepmother, Terri Horman. She told authorities she last saw the boy at about 8:45 a.m. that morning as he headed to his classroom. He has not been seen since.

Cameras were subsequently installed at Kyron’s school -- Skyline Elementary, a private educational facility -- with a private citizen covering the cost.

Kyron Horman's parents still trying to keep his case in the public eye‎

The parents of Kyron Horman, the Portland schoolboy missing since June, have revved up their efforts to put their son back in the spotlight and raise money for his search.

This past weekend, the boy's father, Kaine Horman, shook many hands at a booth at the Portland Roadster Show, where he helped raise money for the Kyron Horman Foundation.

"Lots of people were happy to see that we're still fighting," Horman said. "It was a very positive event."

Then this coming Saturday, the Kyron's mother, Desiree Young, is staging a roller derby in Medford to drum up more money for the Multnomah County search fund.

"Kyron thoroughly enjoys going to the roller derby and watching it," said Young. "We thought this would be a good way to honor him and raise money for the search."

Battle to find Kyron‎

It's been a brutal nine months for the parents of Kyron Horman, the boy who disappeared from his Portland school last spring, but they are determined to keep the case fresh in the minds of Southern Oregon residents.

Desiree Young, Kyron's mother, likes to remind folks that her boy has strong ties to Medford, even though most of the media coverage has focused on the Portland area.

"He spent as much time (in Medford) as Portland," Young said from her west Medford home. "Which is why I believe it's important to get the word out down here."

To do this Young helped organize a women's roller derby bout at Roller Odyssey tonight in Medford.

Another weekend search for Kyron Horman‎

Dozens of volunteers combed a section of the Skyline Hills region of Northwest Portland this weekend, searching for clues, or for any sign of, Kyron Horman.

The second grader was last seen nearly ten months ago, at a science fair at Skyline School, where he attended classes. Since then, searchers have combed the Skyline hills as well as much of nearby Sauvie Island. However, Kyron remains missing, and most of the searches have come up empty.

This weekend's search started Saturday morning, when about 75 people spread across the area near where Northwest Moreland Road intersects Skyline Boulevard, about five miles west-northwest of Skyline School. About 70 searchers were in the field Sunday, when the search's base moved slightly westward toward the Multnomah/Washington County line. Sunday's search ended around 5 p.m.

The searchers were aided by two dogs. Deputy Keith Bybee says other recent planned searches were cancelled due to bad weather. There could well be more searches during upcoming weekends, as the weather gradually improves.

Search Continues For Kyron‎

More than 100 volunteers spent the final weekend of Spring Break searching a heavily wooded area northwest of Portland for Kyron Horman. It's the latest effort to find Kyron, who was just 7 years old when he disappeared from his Portland school last June. 130 volunteers, along with law enforcement employees searched an area near Northwest Dixie Mountain Rd., a heavily wooded area west of Portland, near the town of North Plains.

Kyron's parents continue their efforts to raise awareness about his case. They've held several fundraisers to aid in the search efforts, including a roller derby in Medford on Saturday.

Horman divorce hearing scheduled for Thursday canceled, postponed for another three months

The Multnomah County judge handling the pending divorce case between Kaine Horman and Terri Moulton Horman has canceled a scheduled Thursday hearing and will delay it for another three months.

Kaine Horman, the father of missing Kyron Horman, filed for divorce shortly after his son disappeared from Skyline School June 4 and law enforcement authorities informed him they had learned that his wife allegedly had tried to solicit a landscaper to kill him about six months before Kyron's disappearance.

In October, Terri Horman's lawyers convinced a judge to delay the divorce proceedings for 90 days, arguing that the divorce case should not continue while an ongoing criminal investigation proceeds into Kyron's disappearance.

A hearing scheduled for January was postponed until the spring. The court then set aside nine hours for a March 31 hearing, but that hearing has been delayed for another three months, with no new date agreed to as of yet, according to the judge's clerk.

Horman's divorce attorney Peter Bunch argued last fall that a parallel civil divorce case, while the criminal investigation proceeds into Kyron's disappearance from Skyline School, would jeopardize Terri Horman's Fifth Amendment rights not to incriminate herself. Bunch argued that law enforcement are trying to obtain discovery through the civil proceeding for the ongoing criminal case.

Kyron Horman father's divorce case postponed‎

A divorce hearing for the father and stepmother of missing Portland boy Kyron Horman has been delayed again.

The hearing was moved back at least three months. Kaine Horman filed for divorce from Terri Moulton-Horman on June 28 - two days after law enforcement officials told him that Terri had hired a landscaper in a plot to have Kaine killed.

Kyron Horman's father Kaine Horman will staff booths at Expo Center events in North Portland

The father of Kyron Horman, who's been missing since June, will set up booths at two Expo Center events this weekend as part of his continued effort to spread awareness about his son.

Kaine Horman will have fliers and other items on hand, such as T-shirts, buttons, bracelets, dog tags and key chains, at Portland's Largest Garage Sale on Saturday and at KidFest on Saturday and Sunday. He'll also take donations for the Kyron Horman Foundation, but he said his main purpose is to spread the word about his son -- not collect money.

"I don't really care about that," Horman said. "It's not a money deal. If people start talking to us and ask about a button and they'll wear it, we tell them to take it."

Kyron's father keeps his son's case alive‎

Eleven months after his son Kyron Horman went missing, Kaine Horman was out on Saturday trying to get the word out about his case.

Horman and volunteers set up booths at Kidfest and “Portland’s Largest Garage Sale” at the Expo Center in North Portland.

They handed out buttons, wristbands and flyers with pictures and information about Kyron, hoping it might somehow lead to a break in the case.

“It’s been good,” said Kaine Horman. “There have been so many people by to pick stuff up and to take out with them – lots of positive response. I think a lot of people still want to help.”

Lawyers Represent Kaine, Terri Horman At Hearing
Kyron Horman Missing For More Than 10 Months

Kyron Horman's father and stepmother were represented by their lawyers at a hearing in judge's chambers today.

Terri Horman’s lawyer, Stephen Houze, says the meeting centered around where both sides stand and to see if any agreements can be made outside of court.

Kaine Horman filed for divorce and a restraining order against Terri Horman a few weeks after the search began last June for his son.

Kyron Horman was last seen at Skyline Elementary School on June 4. He vanished after his stepmother, Terri Horman, dropped him off at the school's science fair.

The ensuing search for the missing boy turned into the largest search and rescue operation in Oregon's history.

While authorities have never said whether any evidence has been found, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office has not given up on the case. It is leading a special task force that includes FBI agents.

There have also been several weekend searches in recent months at locations such as Sauvie's Island and in rural areas off Skyline Boulevard and Dixie Mountain Road.

Kyron Horman's father thanks community at Easter celebration‎

Those searching for missing eight-year-old Kyron Horman came together to celebrate Easter Sunday.

Hundreds gathered at Shute Park and enjoyed several attractions, crafts, food and an Easter egg hunt.

"We set up for a couple of hundred kids and I think we far exceeded that," said Kaine Horman, Kyron's father.

Kaine Horman credited the event to a dedicated bunch of supporters from Skyline School in Portland.

"Just trying to give back to everybody that's helped," he said.

He said he is very grateful for all of their efforts in spreading the word on the search for Kyron since last June.

Organizer Cindi Massei made sure that there were plenty events for the people but also that Kryon's presence remain at the forefront.

Items like t-shirts and buttons with Kyron's picture on them, were distributed to the guests.

"I wear my shirt almost every day and there's a lot of people who ask me who Kyron is," Massei said. "Some people don't know that he is still missing."

Massei said items like those are important in the continuation of the search for Kyron.

"It's become very personal for me and I can't imagine not helping and doing anything I can to help Kyron," Massei said.

Even after ten months, the number of supporters is still growing and people are looking for ways to help out.

June 4 will mark one year since Kyron Horman disappeared from his elementary school in Northwest Portland. Just shy of that somber anniversary, police have yet to name a formal suspect in the case.

Still, one person has remained in the spotlight: Kyron’s stepmother Terri Horman.

Horman brought Kyron to Skyline Elementary that fateful morning, the last place he was seen. After that day, reports swirled of a failed lie detector test and she went through a very public breakup from Kyron’s father, Kaine Horman.

Both Kaine and Kyron’s biological mother, Desiree Young, pointed the finger of blame at Terri Horman.

Since then, Horman has returned to her hometown of Roseburg, Ore. Her life in Roseburg is much different now. Neighbors said Horman rarely leaves the home where she grew up.

Vigil for Kyron Horman planned for Mother's Day in Roseburg‎

A trio of women concerned about Kyron Horman, who's been missing for nearly a year, are holding a Mother's Day vigil on Sunday in Roseburg -- near the home of Terri Moulton Horman, the boy's stepmother.

"We're hoping the vigil will push Terri to talk," said Amy Walcott, one of the organizers.

Terri Horman, who's is in divorce proceedings with the boy's dad, Kaine Horman, has been living since last year in her childhood home with her parents. She is the last known person to have seen Kyron, touring a science fair with him the morning of June 4 at Skyline School.

They are holding the vigil near the home of his stepmother, Terri Horman. They are hoping by holding the vigil, they will push her to talk about the case.

Kaine Horman still waiting for break in Kyron case‎

The father of Kyron Horman warns the case for his missing young son may drag on for two, three or even four years.

And even then, the investigation into what happened to the missing boy may not be resolved.

During a two-hour interview with KGW, Kaine Horman provided insight into the nearly year-long investigation. If there is no major break in the case, this will be a marathon, not a sprint, according to Kaine Horman.

Kyron was last seen on June 4th, 2010. Through winter and early spring, search crews scoured an area near Skyline Boulevard in Northwest Portland. They found nothing. They also unsuccessfully searched areas on Sauvie Island.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Kaine said investigators were digging into his estranged wife's past.

During their time together, Kaine said, Terri Moulton-Horman lived a double life.

"As investigators go through things, they found more stuff. That's really a lot of the questions. 'Hey, did you know about this? What about this?' A lot of it, I don't even know, I've never seen it before," said Kaine.

Sergeant: Tips Still Coming In Every Day

Nearly a year after Kyron Horman vanished from his northwest Portland grade school, investigators say they haven’t given up hope.

On Monday, FOX 12 stepped inside the investigation's “war room” at the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office. Nearly 70 binders filled with 4,500 tips related to Kyron are kept in the space.

Sgt. Travis Gullberg says tips have come in every day since the boy disappeared from Skyline School on June 4.

On the second floor of the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office on 122nd Avenue and Glisan is the Kyron Horman war room.

It is on that floor detectives collect and analyze tips and leads in the case of the missing 8-year-old boy who vanished June 4 from his elementary school in Northwest Portland.
