The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is asking residents to keep an eye out for Kerra Wilson, a Mitchell, Neb., 8-year-old who went missing Wednesday morning. She may be in the area, the organization advised.
Kerra Wilson was last seen outside her school in Mitchell early Wednesday morning. She was wearing a blue short-sleeve shirt, blue shorts and Twinkle Toe shoes.
Kerra Wilson is white, with brown hair and blue eyes, is 4 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs about 78 lbs.

FBI joins search for 8-year-old Nebraska girl
The FBI has joined local and state law officers in trying to find an 8-year-old girl who was last seen in the parking lot of her Nebraska Panhandle school.
Authorities say Kerra Wilson has been missing since 8 a.m. Wednesday, when she was dropped off at Mitchell Elementary School. The Nebraska State Patrol office in Scottsbluff said late Thursday morning that Kerra hasn't been found, despite the efforts of family, friends and several law enforcement agencies.
The search has widened to the rural areas of Scotts Bluff County and includes aircraft.
Patrol investigator Monica Bartling says the girl's parents and stepfather have been interviewed. Bartling says an Amber Alert hasn't been issued because the patrol has no information that the girl's been abducted.

Police searching for missing girl
Police are searching for a missing 8-year-old Sioux County girl who was last seen after she was dropped off at school in Mitchell Sept. 21.
According to the Nebraska State Patrol Web site, Kerra Wilson was last seen Sept. 21 around 8 a.m. near the Mitchell Elementary School.
Wilson is white, 4'2" tall and weighs 78 pounds. She has brown hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a sky-blue short-sleeved shirt, possibly with white lettering on it and darker blue cotton short. She had on Twinkle Toes shoes and was possibly carrying a blue backpack with the words "Kids Fitness and Nutrition Day" on it. Her hair had red streaks in it, and she has a scar on her chest and crooked front teeth.
Anyone with information regarding Wilson's disappearance is asked to call the NSP at 402-471-4545 .

There is no information yet whether the parents were given the information directly at noon or whether it was an automatic system. There are reports that the school told Kerra's mother, Amanda Lopez. The grandmother stated on Facebook that she called the police around 3:00 p.m.
Mitchell is a very small town and according to the last census, there is a population of 1,831 people.
The FBI has joined the Nebraska State Patrol in searching for Kerra, and are asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to contact them.

The Nebraska State Patrol confirms the body of 8-year-old Kerra Wilson has been found on a ranch north of Mitchell, Nebraska in Sioux County.
Wilson's step father Salvador Carlos Lopez, 32 has been jailed for First Degree Murder.
Troopers aren't saying how she died, but say she never showed up for school Wednesday.
Due to the rugged terrain and time of night investigators were unable to move the body or process the scene. They will work Friday to process the scene.
Troopers say an autopsy will be performed. They can not say at this time if there is any evidence that a sexual assault occurred.
Officials haven't said if there are any other suspects.
Wilson is the oldest of four children. She had been going to school in the Scottsbluff School District for three years.

Judge denies bail for stepdad
A Nebraska State Patrol investigator said in court documents that Lopez acknowledged killing his stepdaughter, and Sioux County Attorney Adam Edmund said the request that Lopez be denied bail was based on those statements and evidence gathered in the case.
Edmund also noted that children and witnesses still live in the Lopez household and that Lopez had ties to Mexico, including a father who lives there.
Lopez is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Kerra Wilson, who was reported missing by her grandmother Wednesday after she did not show up for school. Her body was found on a ranch north of Mitchell on Thursday.
The criminal complaint against Lopez says Kerra died on Wednesday.
Edmund would not comment on the case.
During Monday's hearing, Lopez said his name was Salvador Carl Lopez, correcting the criminal complaint that identified him as Salvador Carlos Lopez. His voice faltered on the first “yes” he gave to Judge Russell Harford when Harford asked if he understood that he was charged with first-degree murder.
Lopez told the judge he understood that he could face the death penalty. Harford also repeatedly asked and had Lopez state that he understood that he had a right to an attorney and a right to a preliminary hearing. Lopez said he did not want an attorney and waived a preliminary hearing.
His next court appearance will be in Sioux County District Court.

During Monday's hearing, Lopez said his name was Salvador Carl Lopez, correcting the criminal complaint that identified him as Salvador Carlos Lopez. His voice faltered on the first “yes” he gave to Judge Russell Harford when Harford asked if he understood that he was charged with first-degree murder.
Lopez told the judge he understood that he could face the death penalty. Harford also repeatedly asked and had Lopez state that he understood that he had a right to an attorney and a right to a preliminary hearing. Lopez said he did not want an attorney and waived a preliminary hearing.
His next court appearance will be in Sioux County District Court.

Funeral for slain Mitchell girl set for Thursday
Funeral services for a slain 8-year-old Nebraska girl whose body was found last week is scheduled for Thursday.

Funeral for slain Nebraska girl
Funeral services were held Thursday for an 8-year-old girl found dead last week.
Hundreds attended the funeral at the Scotts Bluff County Event Center for Kerra Wilson, who died Sept. 21.
Her stepfather, Salvador Carl Lopez, 32, of Mitchell, has been charged with first-degree murder in the girl’s death. Lopez faces charges in Sioux County District Court. As of Thursday, a date for arraignment had not been set.
Kerra is survived by her mother, Amanda, and three siblings: a 4-year-old brother, Kooper, and sisters Keanny, 3, and Nathiiah, 9 months. She is also survived by two stepsisters and three stepbrothers.
Laura Shelby, whose daughter, Jasmine, is a stepsister to Kerra Wilson, said Jasmine and her other two daughters “miss Kerra terribly.”
Shelby said Kerra liked the color blue and loved math class. She said she also loved to draw, sing and make jokes.
“She was a loving, caring, beautiful girl with a big heart and was fun to be around,” Shelby said.

Stepfather Charged with Murder Will Represent Himself
A Scottsbluff man has waived his preliminary hearing after being charged in the death of his 8-year-old stepdaughter, who police say he admitted to killing. He has also decided to represent himself without an attorney.

Lopez allegedly admitted to police Friday that he murdered Kerra, court documents show.
Kerra was reported missing by her family just before 3 p.m. Wednesday. She was last seen Tuesday evening, when she was with her grandparents.
Lopez told police that he dropped Kerra off at school Wednesday morning, but police say that after reviewing surveillance video from school cameras and interviewing school staff and classmates, it's clear the little girl was never there.
"The cooperation of the staff of Mitchell Elementary was key in determining that Kerra never made it to school on Wednesday," Lt. Bartling of the Nebraska State Patrol said. "This has been a very difficult time for everyone involved and I want to thank the school staff, community volunteers and local law enforcement for their efforts and cooperation during this very difficult time."
"We were hoping to bring Kerra safely home to her family; sadly we weren't able to do that," Lt. Bartling said. "We will continue gathering evidence in this case and work with the Sioux County Attorney to prosecute Salvador Lopez to the fullest extent of the law."
