Volunteers still search for her on weekends, but little in the way of leads has been found recently.

Search For Hailey Dunn Begins To Slow Five Months Later‎

After five months the search efforts for a missing 13-year old Colorado City teen have begun to lose steam.

Hailey Dunn vanished while walking to a friend's house back on December 27th.

In the past five months, the community of Colorado City and people from all over the state gathered in the small community to search for signs of the missing girl.

Up until now, only one named suspect has been named in the case, Shawn Adkins the former live-in boyfriend of Hailey's mother.

The volunteer search set for this weekend was canceled due to lack of turnout.

Five months later, still no sign of missing teen Hailey Dunn‎

After 5 months and no sign of Hailey Dunn, investigators insist they're not giving up.

Hailey's grandmother, Connie Jones, says the family is torn apart as each day passes by without answers.

"It seems like 5 years, it's just dragging on," she said.

Authorities say leads have been less frequent in the past few weeks. "We made some good progress at the beginning, but leads have slowed down," said Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs.

Recently the reward money was bumped from $10,000 to $15,000. Colorado City City Manager Pete Kampfer says they received more calls when the reward changed. "There was a good pick up on tips. They've diminished quite a bit over the past couple of weeks," he said.

Dunn missed on last day of school‎
Students end year without classmate

The joy of the last day of school in Colorado City was tinged with sadness Friday as teachers and students noted the absence of Hailey Dunn, who was reported missing Dec. 28.

Hailey, an eighth-grader at Colorado Middle School, likely would have been among the students newly inducted into the Honor Society who traveled to Abilene for a class outing last week, one of her teachers said.

"It just hit me while we were there (in Abilene) that she would have been with us," said Kristy Frizzell, Hailey's science teacher. "She was always eager and so smart and would do anything for you. It is just breaking my heart."

The halls of Colorado Middle School still were adorned with posters covered with poems, cards and photographs of the 13-year-old student.

A poster full of cards from students in Abilene and surrounding cities offered hope. "We are praying for your safe return," a card from Clack Middle School in Abilene reads.

Child porn investigation continues‎
Images discoveredduring police searchin missing teen case

More than threemonths ago, law enforcement officials reported finding nearly 109,000 images depicting deviant acts and child pornography while investigating the disappearance of Colorado City teenager Hailey Dunn.

To date, no arrests have been made and no indictments issued, but officials say the case has not gone stagnant.

Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs said representatives from the agencies involved in the case — his deputies, Colorado City police, the Texas Rangers, the FBI and the district attorneys for Howard County, Scurry County and the 32nd Judicial District — meet weekly to discuss the case.

"We talk to each other at least once a week, sometimes more than that, about the leads we're following, about information that's come out," Toombs said.

Since the discovery of the materials, law enforcement officials have maintained that the child pornography investigation is being treated as a separate and distinct crime, but Toombs acknowledged that the two cases are intertwined.

"This is not a simple child pornography case," Toombs said. "This investigation is currently stretched over three counties and involves multiple agencies. And many of the people working on the case are also working on the disappearance case."

The images were found after officials seized several electronics and media storage devices from the home of Hailey's mother, Billie Jean Dunn, and the home of Shawn Adkins' mother in Big Spring after executing a search warrant. Adkins, the former boyfriend of Billie Jean Dunn, is the only named suspect in Hailey's disappearance.

Toombs said one reason no arrests have been made is the sheer volume of material that has to be analyzed.

Billie Dunn's Attorney Arrested, Charged With Aggravated Assault ‎

The attorney for Billie Dunn, the mother of missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn, has been arrested.

According to KTXS in Abilene, John Young was arrested early Monday morning.

Sweetwater Police Chief Jim Kelley said an officer noticed Young in a car behind a home.

When the officer approached the car, Young stepped out and pointed a nine millimeter handgun at him.

That led to a struggle and officers were able to get the gun away from Young.

He's been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Young is out of jail after posting a $12,000 bond.

Hailey Dunn's Mother, Billie, Gets Probation – And Moves 250 Miles Away

Billie Dunn, the mother of missing teenager Hailey Dunn, was sentenced Wednesday to one year probation, and she has moved – about 250 miles away from Colorado City.

Billie Dunn appeared in a Mitchell County courtroom and was sentenced to a year’s probation stemming from her arrest on March 17.

Billie Dunn pleaded no contest Wednesday to a charge of making a false report to authorities and was initially sentenced to 90 days in jail. However, the sentence was probated to one year as part of a plea agreement.

Other charges against her – lying to police, hindering an investigation and drug-related charges – were dropped as part of the agreement.

Billie Dunn was arrested and charged on March 17 after she lied to authorities concerning the whereabouts of Shawn Adkins – her former live-in boyfriend who remains the only named suspect in the disappearance of her daughter, Hailey Dunn.

Adkins, on March 17, was inside Billie Dunn’s home – when she lied to officers at her door who were seeking to issue a search warrant to Adkins.

On Wednesday, KTXS News was in Colorado City and discovered that Billie Dunn’s home in Colorado City is now padlocked.

Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs confirmed that Billie Dunn has moved to Travis County in the Austin area. Court officials said her probation is to be served in Travis County, where she now lives.

Mother of missing teen in court

Billie Jean Dunn appeared in court in Mitchell County on Wednesday, without her original attorney who is facing his own legal problems, and on the same day her brother was arrested on seven outstanding warrants from a nearby county.

Dunn, the mother of missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn, was sentenced to 90 days in jail by Judge Ray Mayo after pleading no contest to a charge of giving a false report to law enforcement. The jail term was probated for a period of one year, and Dunn also was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and $232 in court costs.

Billie Dunn Speaks Out About Six Month Anniversary Of Missing Daughter ‎

Monday will mark the six month anniversary since the 13-year-old Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn went missing.

At this weekend's candle light vigil to mark that anniversary Billie Dunn, Hailey's mom said after six months she decided move to South Texas because of all the attention and hatred surrounding her.

It's been six months and family and friends are still determined they will bring Hailey Dunn home.

"I cry everyday, everyday I pray for Hailey," said a search volunteer.

Back on December 27th, Hailey vanished.

Her family said she was walking to a friends house that day, but never made it.

Missing-teen case suspect exits area ‎
Accessible to authorities, attorney says

Shawn Adkins, the only named suspect so far in the disappearance of Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn, has moved away from the area, according to his attorney.

In an email to the Reporter-News, attorney C. Barrett Thomas confirmed that Adkins has moved away from Colorado City.

"Mr. Adkins has left the immediate area due to his inability to find work in Colorado City. He is now working full time. Mr. Adkins remains accessible to investigators through my office," Thomas said in the email.

Thomas added that he had personally assured Ann Reed, the district attorney for the 32nd District, that Thomas could reach Adkins should investigators into Hailey Dunn's disappearance require any information from his client. He also said his office would coordinate Adkins' return to Colorado City should the need arise.

Thomas did not indicate where his client had moved to in the email.

Father of Missing Colorado City Teen Arrested Again

The father of missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn put behind bars again.

Clint Dunn was arrested on Wednesday night in Colorado City for failing to show up in court.

Dunn was supposed to appear Wednesday morning on charges of driving with an invalid license and pot possession.

He was arrested at his home and taken to jail.

According the Sheriff's Office, Dunn didn't know he was supposed to be there.

New Colorado City Police Chief Will Meet Challenges With "Fresh Perspective"‎

Tuesday was the first day of work for Colorado City's new chief of police Roy Owens.
Chief Owens was sworn in last week but tells us his first day has already been very productive.
"It's been pretty busy so far," Chief Owens said. "I haven't done a whole lot as far as setting things in my office up."
Replacing an interim chief, Owens worked as a patrol officer in the city for a year and says he knows how to lead the seven officers on his staff.
"One of the biggest things I'm interested in is the relationship between the police department and citizens," Owens told KTXS Tuesday.
Colorado City implemented a teen curfew after vandalism in the city increased during the summers. A problem Chief Owens hopes to tackle head on by starting a D.A.R.E, gang resistance, and anti-bullying program in Colorado City's schools.
"Give them the education to protect themselves as they go out into the community as growing adults," Chief Owens said.
But the question on everybody's mind, how will Chief Owens handle the investigation of Hailey Dunn, the 13-year-old Colorado City girl missing since December.

Volunteer Search Efforts For Hailey Dunn End ‎

It's been almost seven months since 13-year-old Hailey Dunn went missing from Colorado City. With fewer and fewer people turning out for weekly searches for Hailey. Group leaders say they're turning their attention to making sure it doesn't ever happen again.

Just a few months ago hundreds were showing up to search for Hailey, but with time that manpower dwindled down.

"The longer time went on, we knew that we were looking for a deceased child," said Cristy Lloyd, Search Leader.

That, combined with extreme heat, hurt search efforts that at one point were as strong as 150 people per day, but fell to 3.

The lack of volunteer manpower is forcing an end to the search.

Search efforts for Hailey Dunn have stopped due to a few problems

A once united group, determined to find and bring Hailey Dunn home is now exhausted, divided, frustrated, and broke.

Search volunteer Holly Jenkins says just the financial burden of gas money to keep up the search efforts has become hefty. Jenkins tells the NBC television affiliate in Midland, KWES 9, that 300 volunteers have dwindled to less than 10.

Also, if Hailey has been murdered and buried in a shallow grave it would be nearly impossible to spot after all this time.‎

It's Over: No More Searches For Hailey Dunn Unless Evidence Surfaces

‎Volunteers have called off all searching for missing Colorado City teenager Hailey Dunn.
Since Hailey went missing from her Colorado City home in December, groups of volunteers have searched areas around the city and neighboring region.
What were once daily searches in the beginning were scaled back to twice a week – then weekly.
Now searchers say that because of the extreme heat and fuel costs, they will instead concentrate on getting word out of the missing girl.
The searchers said they will still conduct foot searches when they receive creditable information.

Hailey Dunn's grandmother says she could be dead

Wednesday will be seven months since Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn vanished.

Investigators say they are still continuing to follow leads, but some are giving up hope she will be found alive.

"She's all I think about - I don't think of anyone else. Thinking that I may never see her again," Connie Jones, Hailey's Grandmother, said.

For the past seven months, Jones says she wakes up every morning terrified and sad.

"Not knowing if she's alright, if she's hurting, if she's hungry, if she's cool," Jones said. "If she's alive."

Jones says it's hard to face the possibility that Hailey could be dead. However, she says it's harder simply not knowing anything at all.

Hailey Dunn Now Missing 7 Months; Search Volunteers Plan New Effort Saturday‎

Wednesday marks the seven-month anniversary since Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn was last seen, and search volunteers are going out this weekend to post flyers.
According to the facebook page "Help Find Hailey Dunn," the group will meet Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Stripes gas station, 101 East Interstate 20, in Colorado City.
The group will be posting flyers of the missing girl in the area this weekend.

Volunteers Hope To Find Hailey Dunn Before Teen's 14th Birthday

‎Volunteers told us seven months of searching for a lost teen and turning up with nothing can be emotionally draining.
"It's hard to keep hope up," said Kristy Lloyd. "To keep people going... it's very hard."
Lloyd is one search organizer who is planning an event for this Saturday.
Volunteers are meeting and going out to replace old Hailey Dunn 'missing' flyers.
"We're just asking everyone to regularly replace flyers," Lloyd said, "Or come by and get some if traveling to keep her face out there."
The heat has made it impossible to comb wooded areas like the searchers have done in the past, so this is one way to keep the search going with the hopes of finding the young teen before one important date.
"In August she'll be 14, and that's too long for a child to be missing," Lloyd said. "So we're just trying to keep her everywhere so maybe someone passing through will know what happened and come forward."

'It doesn't get better with time': Grandmother of cheerleader, 13 speaks out seven months after she vanished without a trace

It has been more than seven months since her disappearance, and police are no closer to finding missing 13-year-old cheerleader Hailey Dunn - who vanished without a trace last Christmas.
Her grandmother left an emotional message on the Help Find Hailey Dunn Facebook page to mark her seven month anniversary, saying that time has not made it any better.
On the post, Connie Jones wrote: 'They say it gets better with time [but] whoever said that does not know what they are talking about.

Special Prosecutor To Handle Assault Case Against Attorney John Young
‎
A special prosecutor will be brought in to handle the prosecution of prominent Big Country attorney John Young after he allegedly pulled a gun on a Sweetwater police officer in June.
Young has not been indicted on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is free after posting bail on a $12,000 bond.
Nolan County officials told KTXS News that the state Attorney General's Office was appointed as a special prosecutor after the Nolan County District Attorney's office recused itself from the case.
District Attorney Ann Reid said the officials in the DA's Office recused themselves because of a conflict of interest.
Young had been serving as legal council for Billie Dunn, mother of missing teen Hailey Dunn; however, Young was unable to represent her during her court appearance in June.

Balloon-release event today for missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn
‎Hailey Dunn was last seen 8 months ago

Balloons will be released tonight across the street from the home where Colorado City teenager Hailey Dunn lived before being reported missing Dec. 28.

The organization Hope for Hailey organized the event, which also will include a prayer vigil.

On this date eight months ago, the teen reportedly was seen in the community. Her mother, Billie Jean Dunn, reported her daughter missing to law authorities the next day. Sunday would be the Colorado Middle School student's 14th birthday.
