Czech police accuse detained man of murdering, raping girl
Prague - The Czech police today accused a 41-year-old man who is suspected in the case of Anna Janatkova, a nine-old-year girl who was found dead in Prague, of murder, rape and burglary, Prague police spokeswoman Andrea Zoulova told CTK.
Later today the police will propose that the man be taken into custody, she said.
The accused man has used his right not to testify, Zoulova added.
The nine-year-old girl disappeared on October 13, 2010, when she was returning from school in Prague-Troja. Dozens of police, soldiers, firefighters and dog handlers participated in the search for her. However, they only found her backpack and a bottle with water, and later also keys that were hers.
On Wednesday, the police found a body in the area, which, an expertise show, is Anna´s.
A postmortem showed the girl died a violent death.
Policemen with sniffer dogs had several times searched the site where the body was found yesterday, but the body was buried deep in the ground, Zoulova said.
The suspect, referred to as Otakar T., is highly intelligent even though he has only elementary education. His personality has psychopathic traits, however, Aktualne.cz server has written.
During previous questionings, the man claimed that he had never seen the girl but DNA tests later revealed that he touched her backpack. A lie detector also indicated that he had not told the truth when he was asked about the girl.
The police have proven that Otakar T. committed at least 17 property crimes in Prague and its surroundings.
The police would not release more information now, in view of the ongoing investigation.

Suspect charged in Anička's murder
Corpse of a girl found in Prague’s Troja district is that of Anna Janatková. The chief suspect has been charged with rape and murder.
A 41-year-old man has been charged with the rape and murder of Anna Janatková, a nine-year-old girl who went missing in October 2011, and whose corpse was found and identified on Wednesday. The autopsy revealed that the girl, known to many Czechs who followed the case as simply “Anička,” had died a violent death.
The suspect, identified as Otakar T., was also charged with 17 accounts of breaking and entering, and theft. Police spokeswoman Andrea Zoulová told public broadcaster Czech Television (ČT) that the suspect “made a living” stealing from country cottages in Prague 8, the district where the girl lived, and the Central Bohemia region.
Otokar T. was arrested on Wednesday in a pub in Most, Ústí nad Labem region. He had been taken into custody last autumn and although his fingerprints were found on the girl’s backpack he was released due to lack of evidence. Zoulová said on Thursday that the man was refusing to answer questions or cooperate with the investigation in any way.

Suspect in Prague girl's murder dies in hospital
Otakar Tomek, accused of raping and murdering 9-year-old Anna Janatková, has died in hospital. On Monday he’d tried to hang himself in prison.
Otakar Tomek, the man accused of raping and murdering 9-year-old Anna Janatková, died in a Prague hospital on Tuesday morning. He had been hospitalized with serious injuries on Monday after attempting to commit suicide in his Prague’s Pankrác prison cell by hanging himself with clothing; doctors said that Tomek had suffered brain damage due to a lack of oxygen.
Tomek’s death was announced on Wednesday morning by Central Military Hospital (ÚVN) spokeswoman Jitka Zinke. She did not provide any more details. The 41-year-old man was arrested last Wednesday and charged with rape and murder, the day after the girl’s corpse was found in the Trója district of Prague 8, just 800 meters from her home. Anna went missing in October 2010.
According to the news server Aktualne.cz, experts who conducted psychological and psychiatric assessment of Tomek following his arrest warned of a high probability that he would attempt to take his own life. He left a suicide note, in which he did not admit has guilt.
An autopsy revealed that Janatková died a violent death with broken neck vertebrae, indicating she had been strangled; her skull had been smashed by a rock. Police investigators presume that the act was premeditated, as the grave in which the girl’s body was found had been dug several days before her murder.
