Not good news. The remains of a child have been found lesst han two milesfrom where Sylar was camping with his family. The body ha yet to be identiied but it looks like it is Sylar. The body is said to o been washed downstream during recent flooding.

Human remains believed to be Sylar Newton‎

At this time, the remains are believed to be that of Sylar Newton, but final confirmation is still pending. YCSO received the call regarding this discovery just before 1 p.m. Tuesday, according to YCSO spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn.

YCSO detectives, assisted by FBI agents and a forensic anthropologist, are currently conducting an on scene criminal investigation as they recover the body.

Autopsy set for remains found in central Arizona‎

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - An autopsy is scheduled to begin Wednesday to determine whose remains were discovered near a campground where an Arizona toddler was reported missing.

Authorities believe the skeletal remains are those of 2-year-old Sylar Newton, who was last seen at a central Arizona campground on July 24. They were found Tuesday at the bottom of a wash, less than two miles from the campground.

The results of the autopsy aren't expected to be available for weeks.

Distant Cousin Found Sylar's Presumed Remains

RIMROCK, Ariz. - Skeletal remains of a young boy were found Tuesday in Yavapai County, just 2 miles from the Beaver Creek campground where 2-year-old Sylar Newton was last seen on July 24. But it wasn't deputies who found the remains -- it was a family member.

One of Sylar's distant cousins found the body in a wash, but when Don Newton first started searching for Sylar, he had no idea they were related -- he just wanted to help.

"I was just going to search for a baby, I didn't know who it was," says Newton. "I still was kind of unprepared for when I first found him and it kind of knocked me back."

Authorities in Yavapai County, Arizona, said Wednesday that remains found a day earlier in the area are those of "a small child," and they are acting on the assumption that the body belongs to Sylar Newton, a 2-year-old boy missing for more than two weeks.

A DNA test will be performed to confirm the identity of the remains, a process that could take several days, Yavapai County Sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn told HLN.

Although a DNA test has not yet confirmed whether the remains of a small child found Tuesday belong to Sylar Newton, authorities in Yavapai County, Arizona say the discovered remains are those of the 2-year-old.

Dwight D’Evelyn told HLN that DNA testing results may take several days to complete.

Sylar Newton abused before disappearance, witnesses say

A search warrant released Friday shed light on the hours before the disappearance of a 2-year-old Flagstaff boy whose body authorities believe was found in a wash weeks after he went missing.

Sylar Newton went missing the night of July 24 from Beaver Creek Campground, near the community of Rimrock......

Judge Mary Hamm of Seligman Justice Court signed a warrant July 25 allowing the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office to search property belonging to Sylar's custodial mother, Christina Priem, and her mother, Nancy Collins. ....

The search warrant said campers reported seeing either Priem or Collins be "verbally abusive" to the boy and "push Sylar to the ground because he could not find his shoes." Campers also told investigators they heard the child crying between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. but could not hear anything after.

Priem's daughter, 11, told detectives that earlier in the afternoon, she saw Sylar staggering and then could not wake him, the warrant said.

Records indicate the family friend told detectives he heard Sylar had got into Collins' lockbox and ingested a muscle relaxant. Collins told detectives she knew of another time when Sylar had ingested her medication. She said her lockbox was kept in her car, but other family members told detectives it could have been in the tent.

Collins admitted to smoking pot the same day Sylar went missing, the search warrant showed.

Records sent to the Sheriff's Office by Flagstaff Police Department revealed that "both mother and grandmother have an extensive history with the police involving drugs, assault, child abuse and child neglect."
