Baby Gabriel's Face Adorns Texas Billboards‎

PHOENIX -- Missing posters for Tempe baby Gabriel Johnson hit the big screen Tuesday when several digital billboards in San Antonio began carrying a message with the missing boy's likeness.

Gabriel was last seen with his mother, Elizabeth Johnson, in San Antonio on Dec. 26. Johnson now sits in a Maricopa County jail on charges of kidnapping and custodial interference relating to her son's disappearance. Gabriel's father, Logan McQueary, has been spearheading the search for his missing son.

The three billboards, which are owned by Lamar Outdoor Advertising, feature a photo of Gabriel, the reward amount and the phone number for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The billboards are the result of an effort by Arizona resident Cathy Dean, who was first alerted to the possibility of billboards in a discussion on the Facebook group "Bring Home Gabriel Johnson."

Friend Says Missing Baby is Alive‎

PHOENIX - Baby Gabriel Johnson is 1 year old, but the search for him continues.

May 3 is his first birthday, and more than four months following the child's disappearance, his mother Elizabeth Johnson, is still behind bars and investigators are trying to determine whether Gabriel is alive or dead.

A friend of the boy's mother, says he believes Gabriel is still alive.

23-year-old Sorin Stanescu says stands by Elizabeth and says he's one of the only friends she has left.

"Her parents passed away, friends are against her. I think we are the only good friends..she has me and my sister.." said Stanescu.

Johnson is accused of kidnapping her son and leaving Phoenix.

Smith is the woman who almost adopted baby Gabriel before he disappeared. She's been charged with trying to forge documents to gain custody of the child.

Search Stalled On Gabriel's 1st Birthday‎
Leads Drying Up In Search For Boy Missing 4 Months

Investigators believe his mother either gave him away as part of an underground adoption plan or killed him in San Antonio, Texas. With each passing day, Gabriel's return seems more unlikely. His appearance would have changed by now and tips have fallen off to a trickle, investigators said.

Those involved in the search said their next steps are unclear.

"Gabriel needs to come home one way or another," said Tim Maloney, the lawyer for Gabriel's father, Logan McQueary.

McQueary chose to speak through his attorney on the boy's birthday because the emotions of the day were too much to bear in public.

Elizabeth Johnson Unfit To Stand Trial‎
Baby Gabriel Disappearance Now Into Sixth Month

The last time Elizabeth Johnson took the stand, she was lucid enough to repeatedly plead the "fifth" when asked what she did with her son, but after getting a new and more expensive attorney, Johnson's status apparently has changed.

"When we first took the case, we noticed she was having problems really understanding the basics, the way the court system works. They sent two doctors to go evaluate her and they found that she was incompetent," said Nicholas Alcock, Johnson's new attorney.

Gabriel Johnson would now be 1-year-old.

Yet, those close to Johnson said they never questioned her volatility. Gabriel's father, Logan McQueary, said he had to call the police after Johnson allegedly slashed up their apartment with a knife. Johnson's grandfather told CBS 5 News that he thought she was bi-polar.

Now, the trial will come to a halt while Johnson is treated and medicated by doctors, against her will if necessary.

Key figure in Baby Gabriel case due in court‎

One of the key figures in the case of Gabriel Johnson, the Tempe baby who has not been seen since the day after Christmas, was due in Superior Court for a hearing Monday.

Tammi Smith is the woman who claimed she was in the process of adopting Gabriel before he disappeared.

Tempe police said Smith was not forthcoming with information during their investigation. Detectives also said Smith provided false information on paternity documents, listing her cousin as Gabriel's father. Smith was charged with custodial interference, conspiracy to commit to custodial interference and forgery. She pleaded not guilty to those charges back in February.

Lawyers for missing kid's mom won't detail competency dispute

It's been more than a week since two court-appointed doctors released their findings in a report that determined the mother of missing Baby Gabriel Johnson is competent to stand trial, but her attorneys still do not want to comment on why they contend she is not.

However, the missing baby's mother, Elizabeth Johnson, knows what she's doing and needs to start accepting responsibilities for her actions, according to her grandfather, Robert Johnson of Scottsdale.
