Spin thins our fight for truth
IF Daniel Morcombe disappeared tomorrow, you might not be told.
It seems a ludicrous proposition, but so too does the Bligh Government's repeated attempts to hide information from the public......
.....The latest example is a law you've probably never even heard of, but its consequences take away your right to know.
The Government has changed the Child Protection Act 1999 and added a section that bans the publication of information identifying a child victim of crime.
This means that the media could not name Daniel Morcombe, according to a government spokesman, unless his name was used by the Police Commissioner.

Daniel Morcombe's parents want rethink on new laws banning media from naming crime victims.
THE father of missing teen Daniel Morcombe has warned that new laws banning the media from identifying child victims of crime could damage police investigations.
Changes made by the Bligh Government would also severely restrict the ability of family members to harness community energy to help solve such crimes, he said.
Bruce Morcombe - commenting on changes to the Child Protection Act last month - fears that the consequences could be far-reaching.
"I think the impact is obvious in a case like Daniel where it's been important for the public to be made aware of the circumstances and background of that case and for the public to be made aware of the dangers," Mr Morcombe said.

Daniel's ride too popular to go on
THE Daniel Morcombe Foundation’s Ride for Daniel will not go ahead in 2010 because it is so popular.
In a decision described as “heartbreaking”, the ride, which has been going for five years, will be postponed until next year.
Almost 3000 motorcycle enthusiasts turned out for the 2009 event, placing a large burden on the support networks that have made it so successful.
Organiser and foundation committee member Brett Winkler said a new format for 2011 was being devised but would still include the ride.

MP to wear red on Day for Daniel
PETER Slipper plans to paint Federal Parliament red for this year's Day for Daniel.
On October 29 Mr Slipper, Member for Fisher, will wear red to promote the Daniel Morcombe Foundation's annual child safety awareness day.
He is the first federal politician in Australia to make the vow, and has called for his colleagues to follow his lead.
“This is such an easy but effective gesture to show our support and make people around Australia aware of the work the Foundation does,” Mr Slipper said.

Pam, what a great idea. I don't have anything red to wear myself, but if anyone can do this it would be great.
