Tide rises against Jackway release

THE father of missing Sunshine Coast teenager Daniel Morcombe yesterday made an impassioned plea to the state government for convicted child rapist Douglas Jackway to be kept in jail indefinitely.

Jackway, a person of interest in relation to Daniel’s disappearance, could be out of prison within months.

Jackway deserves a fair go

REPEAT child sex offender Douglas Jackway can be rehabilitated and should be released when his jail time has been served, says civil libertarian Terry O’Gorman.
Jackway, 32, who has been convicted of raping a nine-year-old girl and attempting to rape a nine-year-old boy, was this year named as a person of interest in relation to the disappearance of Sunshine Coast boy Daniel Morcombe.

Sick Facebook group mocks Daniel

A FACEBOOK group offering to “give back Daniel Morcombe” if one million people join it has been condemned as a cruel hoax by angry Sunshine Coast residents.

But the group, reportedly started by a student under the “Just for Fun” and “Totally Pointless” causes of Facebook, is likely to die out very quickly with even its gutless administrators fleeing.

QUEENSLAND'S top cop has again pledged police will not rest until those responsible for the suspected abduction and murder of Palmwoods schoolboy Daniel Morcombe are found.

Police commissioner Bob Atkinson said despite police investigating almost 17,500 lines of inquiry, police just needed that one piece of information to solve the mystery.

THE parents of missing Palmwoods teenager Daniel Morcombe were dumbstruck when a donation of more than $17,000 was handed over at the recent Dance for Daniel event.

Bruce and Denise had no idea Bank of Queensland managing director David Liddy, who attended the dance, had planned to surprise them with the big cheque.

Morcombe case given to coroner‎

VAST amounts of information collected during the Daniel Morcombe investigation have reportedly been delivered to the State Coroner.

It has taken police almost 18 months to compile the result of more than six years of work by a huge team of officers, which now fills five large boxes handed to coroner Michael Barnes on Friday.

It will now be up to Mr Barnes to wade through the information and meet with police before deciding whether to hold a formal inquest into Daniel’s disappearance from beside the Nambour Connection Road in December 2003.

More than six years of police investigation has been collated and handed to the state coroner to consider an inquest that may eventually resolve the mystery surrounding the 13-year-old boy's disappearance and reveal who is responsible.
