Sheriff continues to follow leads in search for 2 missing area boys


LeROY — Through the weekend, work continued at command central at the McLean County sheriff’s office following leads in the search for two missing LeRoy boys.

Duncan Connolly, 9, and his brother Jack, 7, have been missing since March 8, when their father, Michael Connolly, failed to return them to their mother’s home in LeRoy after a weekend visit in Bloomington. A nationwide Amber Alert has been issued.

“We’ve had some folks out there still working hard,” McLean County Sheriff Mike Emery said Saturday. He visited command central Saturday, and he intends to do so Sunday hoping for some good news.

“We hope it’s just around the corner,” he said.

Last week, vigils were organized by family friends in support of the boys’ mother, Amy Leichtenberg.

WMBD/WYZZ— LeRoy— Teachers at Leroy Elementary are still waiting for two of their students to come home. In the meantime, it is “Blue and Green Day” at the school. Students and faculty are wearing nine-year-old Duncan and seven-year-old Jack's favorite colors. The two boys have been missing since March 8, allegedly kidnapped by their father Michael Connolly. Duncan's teacher says “Blue and Green Day” is another way to keep the missing boys in the public eye. Students have also made artwork to encourage them to come home. If you have any information on the missing boys, contact your local police station or call the McLean County Sheriff's Department.

Bodies of missing brothers, father found in Illinois

Authorities in central Illinois say the bodies of two small boys who had been missing about three weeks have been found along with that of their father.
Nine-year-old Duncan Connolly and his 7-year-old brother Jack of LeRoy (luh-ROY') went missing March 8 after their father allegedly failed to return them to their mother following a custody visit.
McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling says the two children's bodies were found Sunday inside a car in Putnam County. The body of the father, Michael Connolly, was found nearby.
The boy's mother, Amy Leichtenberg, says in a statement she's heartbroken by her son's deaths, which she blames in part on the judicial system.
A court order barred Michael Connolly from contact with Leichtenberg.
