Utility workers may have seen missing Calif. teen‎

Utility workers saw a man with a girl in a remote area north of San Diego around the time registered sex offender John Albert Gardner III raped and stabbed a 14-year-old, leaving her dead body nearby.

The details come in a second batch of search warrants unsealed Monday on the investigation into the death of 17-year-old Chelsea King. Gardner has pleaded guilty to murdering Chelsea and Amber Dubois.

REGION: Amber's mother says Gardner was willing to be executed

Headline later changed to: REGION: Gardner to TV station: 'I'm gonna be dead in the next five years'

In an interview set to air Thursday, admitted killer John Albert Gardner III told a local television station: "I'm gonna be dead within the next five years."

Gardner also said he had been willing to go to death row for the rape and murder of local teens Chelsea King and Amber Dubois, Amber's mother said a few hours before the interview was to air.

The Gardner interview is set for broadcast on KFMB's newscasts at 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Amber's mother Carrie McGonigle said Gardner told the CBS affiliate in San Diego that the plea deal that kept him from possible execution was not his idea, but was the brainchild of his attorneys.

McGonigle said KFMB allowed her on Wednesday evening to listen to about seven minutes of the interview.

John Gardner speaks out on SoCal murders‎

....He spoke to a San Diego T.V. station and admitted he knew exactly what he was doing.

"I was aware of what I was doing and I could not stop myself. I was pent up with major rage and pissed off at my whole life and everybody that's hurt me. I blew up and hurt the wrong people."

......Gardner says he hates himself for committing the crimes and would take it all back if he could. He also offered to talk to both victims' families about the crimes.

Amber's mother says she plans on meeting with Gardner in private.
