Mother of Amber Dubois meets with Gardner‎

On Wednesday afternoon, Carrie McGonigle got the answers in a 30-minute meeting with Gardner.

“Carrie said that she finally has closure,” family spokesman Tommy Sablan said afterward. “All the questions she asked, he answered. She said he was nervous and respectful during the meeting.”

McGonigle met with Gardner at the downtown San Diego jail. He is scheduled to be sentenced Friday in Superior Court for raping and murdering Amber on Feb. 13, 2009, and Poway teenager Chelsea King on Feb. 25. He also has pleaded guilty to assault and attempted rape of a jogger on Dec. 27 in Rancho Bernardo. He is to be sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole or appeal.

Amber's Mom Talks to Gardner in Jail‎

Amber Dubois' mother, Carrie McGonigle, was granted a special jail visit with her daughter's killer, John Gardner, on Wednesday.

McGonigle said she got a call early this afternoon from a sheriff's deputy at San Diego County Central Jail. She said the deputy told her that Gardner wanted to meet with her and that she had to be at the jail by 3 p.m. for a 3:30 visit.

When McGonigle arrived, she was escorted by three deputies to a visitation room. Minutes later, Gardner, who has pleaded guilty to both Amber's murder as well as the slaying of Poway teen Chelsea King, walked in and sat down. They talked by phone through a glass partition that separates visitors from inmates.

McGonigle said Gardner appeared to be very nervous "he was shaking" and he rarely made eye contact.

Warrants show few leads after SoCal girl vanished‎

Police had few leads in the month after a 14-year-old girl vanished while walking to school, according to search warrants unsealed Thursday that offered a glimpse into the early stages of an investigation that ended when the killer led authorities to her remains a year later.
There is no indication of any suspects in the three search warrants dated March 11, 2009, less than a month after Amber Dubois disappeared. Superior Court Judge Daniel Goldstein unsealed the documents at the request of news organizations including The Associated Press.

The investigation went nowhere for a year, until John Albert Gardner III was charged in March with murdering 17-year-old Chelsea King. Gardner, 31, led authorities to Amber's remains in a remote, mountainous area north of San Diego.

REGION: Amber's father: John Gardner should 'suffer'‎

The father of murdered Escondido teen Amber Dubois harshly criticized a legal system he said "disregarded and dismissed" warnings about her killer, John Albert Gardner III. And now he is seeking justice of the Old Testament sort.

"Now, with our last hope for justice, we depend on the prison community to slowly and painfully cause his remaining days on this earth to be a living nightmare," Moe Dubois said in a written statement released by San Diego Superior Court officials Thursday afternoon.

"I truly hope he suffers a hundred times the amount of pain he caused our (families)," Dubois wrote. "He will burn in hell for the acts he has committed. I just hope that day is an agonizingly long way away and that he will have to suffer as much as we all have, actually more."

Dubois' "victim impact statement" was made public Thursday once officials filed it with the court as an addendum to a probation report released Wednesday.

On the eve of the sentencing of her daughter’s murderer, Carrie McGonigle railed against the local news media for aggressively pursuing interviews with her to get details of her 30-minute jailhouse meeting Wednesday with John Albert Gardner III, the killer of Amber Dubois.

“It’s total disrespect that I feel. It’s really unacceptable,” McGonigle said during a 7 p.m. news conference in Rancho Bernardo. “Yes I met with Gardner. Yes we talked. I got my answers. I got my closure that I needed,” she said.

“It’s really no one’s business what his body language was, if we made eye contact. (How) is that relevant to helping other children in the world? It’s not.”

“What is important is how he got my daughter, and yes I will tell everybody how get got my daughter; that’s the only thing that’s relevant in this whole interview.”
