I have been very active in the search for Brianna. I was with the group when they announced they have found the body. I am still active looking at everybody who seems like the suspect and searching for the vehicle. I totally agree that, unfortunately, the police department in Reno 'waits too long' when it's just a suspcious activity. On January 10th, somebody entered my apartment and misplaced some things in the bathroom, left a sealed condom on the dinning room table, and later we discovered that even cut his/her hair and used the vacuum cleaner to get rid of the hair. When I informed the police they just asked if I had a suspect and that I should call 'when it's actually happening'. So, that is the reason why things happen again and again, hopefully the good press and contacts generated by he Dennison case will help the Police Department to take seriously EACH SINGLE CASE 'BEFORE' it's actually happening or happened.

Testing gains national attention after use in clearing JonBenet Ramsey's parents

The "touch DNA" technology that linked two other attacks to the unsolved slaying of Brianna Denison also helped Reno police last month catch a suspected serial rapist.

The technology was used to clear the parents of 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey, who was killed in her Colorado home 11 years ago. Earlier this year, it helped free Tim Masters, who was imprisoned in Colorado for more than nine years in a 1987 slaying.

Brianna Denison Murder Suspect Arrested in Reno

At a press conference this morning, Reno Police Chief Michael Poehlman announced the arrest of James Michael Biela as a suspect in the Brianna Denison abduction and murder case. Biela was picked up following a 10 month investigation involving over 2,200 tips received through Secret Witness and other sources, and assistance from numerous law enforcement agencies. Poehlman said a tip through Secret Witness and DNA evidence obtained from Biela's son are what finally gave a direct link between the suspect and the Denison case. Biela's vehicle, another piece of evidence in the case, has also been recovered. Chief Poehlman also indicated that DNA evidence links Biela to other unsolved sexual assault cases in the Reno area.

Denison family: DNA links suspect to rape, murder

Brianna Denison’s family said this morning that DNA links the 27-year-old Sparks man arrested Tuesday night for the rape, murder and kidnapping of Brianna.

“Can you believe it?” said Brianna’s aunt, Lauren Denison. “The police said the DNA came back, and it’s him.”

Reno police arrested James Michael Biela on suspicion of murder, first-degree kidnapping, and sexual assault. He remained at the Washoe County Jail without bail.

Jan. 22: The FBI, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and University of Nevada, Reno police join the effort.

Jan. 27: Police establish a DNA link between Denison's abduction and a December kidnap and rape of a UNR student.

Jan. 31: Police establish a DNA link between a Nov. 13 attempted sexual assault and the Denison case.

Jan. 31: Reno police say a UNR student reported she was raped in a campus parking garage Oct. 22. Police said the cases have similar characteristics, but the October case has not been connected to the others.

Feb. 2: Denison's case is featured on "America's Most Wanted."

April 5: Police say they have received more than 4,000 tips in the case.

Sept. 1: Denison family launches a blue-ribbon campaign called "Tie a Ribbon for Bri Day."

Nov. 1: Bridgette Denison's friends and family opens the Bring Bri Justice Foundation to support crime victims and lobby for advancements in DNA laws and stricter punishment for criminals.

Nov. 1: Secret Witness receives a tip that James Biela's behavior allegedly fits that reported of the suspect.

Nov. 7: A Reno detective interviews Biela, saying his name came up along with hundreds of other male suspects. The detective requests a DNA sample and Biela refuses.

Nov. 12: Biela's ex-girlfriend allows detectives to take DNA sample from the couple's son.

Nov. 25: Police say the son's DNA sample indicates he is related to the suspect in Denison's death.

Nov. 25: Detectives obtain an arrest warrant, book Biela into Washoe County Jail at 8:59 p.m. and test his DNA.

Nov. 26: Police say they received confirmation that Biela's DNA matches the suspect's DNA.

Nov. 26: Police announce Biela's DNA links him to Denison's slaying.

James Michael Biela, 27, remains in Washoe County Jail without bail on suspicion of open murder related to the strangulation death of Denison, 19, as well as sexual assault and first-degree kidnapping of another woman Dec. 16, less than 500 yards from the home near the University of Nevada, Reno campus where Denison disappeared Jan. 20.

Reno police have said Biela is a suspect in two other sexual attacks.

Biela has declined to be interviewed.

Prosecutors said more charges against Biela are likely before he is to appear at a court hearing next week.

Grey fibers were collected from the December victim's clothing after she was assaulted in a pickup. Her description of her attacker's truck matched the one Biela drove at the time of the crimes, police have said.
