Detectives Name Girl Found In Box 'Baby Grace'

GALVESTON, Texas -- Detectives have named a girl found decomposing in a box "Baby Grace," as they asked for nationwide help identifying her, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.

A fisherman found the girl on a marshy, grassy island near Green's Cut, about five miles west-southwest of the Galveston Causeway late Monday.

The blue Sterlite-brand utility box contained the body of a 2- to 5-year-old girl. She had been wrapped in plastic bags, officials said. Investigators said she had been dead for "several weeks," but did not know how long she had been inside the box.

Galveston County medical examiner Dr. Stephen Pustilnik said the girl had skull fractures, but no signs of sexual trauma.

Police: Toddler Girl Found in Box in Texas Could Be From Anywhere



Police in Texas say the body of a young girl washed ashore in a storage box in Galveston Bay last week could have come from as far away as Europe, but officially ruled out it being British toddler Madeleine McCann, who disappeared in Portugal six months ago.

"We're confident it's not her," Galveston County Sheriff's Department spokesman Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo told FOX News.
