Natalee Holloway's Body Found? Picture Leads Divers to Renew Search

ORANJESTAD, Aruba (CBS/AP) A vacationing US couple believe they have found the remains of Natalee Holloway, the missing Alabama teen who went missing in 2005 - something Aruban police and countless search teams haven't been able to do in 5 years.

Although the Pennsylvania couple, John and Patti Muldowney, can't remember exactly where they took the underwater pictures, an Aruban local claims he knows where the spot is and authorities planned to search the area over the weekend.

No updates were immediately available and a spokeswoman for the police, Ann Angela, said she could not reveal where or when the dive would take place so as not to attract onlookers.

Aruban police renew search for Natalee Holloway

Aruban police investigating the disappearance of Natalee Holloway renewed their search for skeletal remains Monday after receiving an underwater picture taken by a Rapho Township couple.

"We are treating this very seriously. It is a tip for us, and we look at it very seriously," said Ann Angela, a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor's office in Aruba.

"It is our job. We want to solve this crime."

A police diving team conducted preliminary searches Saturday and Sunday at the spot where officials believe the picture was taken that might show human remains — off the Dutch Caribbean island's southern coast, Angela said.

The searches, however, turned up nothing.

ARUBA – Aruban authorities have dispatched an expert dive time to search an area of the ocean where a Pennsylvania couple believes to have captured an image of what could be Natalee Holloway’s remains on film.

The couple was vacationing in Aruba and took photographs of the ocean view. It was only after the photographs were developed that they saw what they believed to be a skeleton in the waters.

Investigation opens as Aruban divers and remains search for Natalee Holloway.

Aruban divers and remains of what appears to be a skeleton might be Natalee Holloway. Police are searching the site where an underwater photograph was taken by a couple who were on vacation. The picture has renewed interest in the case.

Aruba divers began searching for any signs of a sunken skeleton possibly photographed by a snorkeling Lancaster County woman, on Saturday.

There is a possibility that the photograph might be a break in the much-talked about disappearance of Natalee Holloway, an Alabama high school student who disappeared during a graduation trip in 2005.

According to the initial search, nothing much was discovered. The authorities are now hoping that the FBI can get Patti Muldowney, and her husband, John, to help pinpoint the location. That a local resident had recognized the spot was another hope.

Mar 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A photograph which was taken by Patti Muldowney while she and her husband, John were on vacation has sparked a new focus on the case of Natalie Holloway. Natalie disappeared while on her graduation trip to Aruba, and was last seen by Joran van der Sloot, who has managed to remain in the headlines with his ludicrous confessions about what happened to Natalie. He has claimed everything from selling her, to hiding her body after several different versions of an accidental death.

Patti and John Muldowney did not notice anything out of the ordinary as they were snorkeling off of the coast of Aruba. It was not until they got home and saw the pictures that they noticed the resemblance of what they had thought was a rock formation, to a skeleton. John said that he immediately felt that the picture was of human remains, and they thought of Natalie. “When I looked at that photo, I said, by darn, that certainly does look like a skeleton,” he told CNN’s Nancy Grace.

Natalee Holloway's father asks Lancaster couple to speak out

Aruban authorities haven't been able to find the spot where the picture was taken, now they're searching for the tour guide who took the Lancaster County couple out to sea that day.

John Muldowney says it shouldn't be too hard to find his former tour guide in Aruba.

" I said, if you want to find out, ask them who gave a 40 dollar tip."

That's how much money John gave the guide to move his scooter on and off the boat. John also talked to us about all of the media attention he and his wife, have been getting after taking a photo of what could be the missing Natalee Holloway.

" Patti said no more interviews no more interviews please, until they do something, until they find something."

He says the attention is overwhelming.
" The dad called me. Because we weren't going to go on CNN or Nancy Grace."

Natalee Holloway's father convinced the couple to speak up in hopes that their actions would lead investigators to what could possibly be his daughter's remains.

(CNN) -- Aruban authorities have delayed a search of an area shown in underwater photograph possibly showing human remains, a prosecutor said Wednesday.

The picture has renewed interest in the nearly 5-year-old Natalee Holloway case.

Aruban prosecutor Peter Blanken said Wednesday that the search of the area is on hold pending further investigation to determine a more precise location.
