(I am trying to get a translation but it says that Patrick van der Eem was refused entry in the United States, apparently for his (13-year old) drugs conviction. He was locked up for a few hours and put back on a plane to Amsterdam!)

NEW YORK - The American authorities refused entry to the United States to Patrick van der Eem, the informer in the Joran-case

Peter R. De Vries explains the reason of refusal. De Vries: "A refused visa in the past and a conviction for drugs from 13 years ago." Van der Eem was planning to go on a tour to the large television stations in New York, together with Peter R. De Vries

After a flight of 9 hours, Van der Eem was held at customs on J.F. Kennedy airport. After a few hours he was put on the plane back to Amsterdam.

Patrick van der Eem responded quietly on the question why he was refused entry to the U.S: "I have no idea. I do not wish to comment any further. Good afternoon, thank you very much and see you later"

Peter R. De Vries had not expected the situation. "We thought it would have aged by now. Patrick was convicted for these affairs thirteen years ago and the punishment wasn't heavy. But apparently they look at it differently here. It's a huge disappointment especially for him"

Van der Eem would have joined shows like Larry King's and Good Morning America. If it makes the case less convincing? De Vries doesn't think so: It has nothing to do with each other, it is something from the past, I've never been secretive about that."

AMSTERDAM - Joran van der Sloot will not be held again in the case of the disappearance of the American student, Natalee Holloway. His lawyer, Bert de Rooij confirmed on Radio 1 that he was informed about this by the Common Justice Department of Curaçao.

According to the Justice Department, the confession Joran made to Patrick van der Eem that was shown on the crime show of Peter R De Vries, isn't enough to arrest Joran again.
Van der Sloot is known to lie and the statements that he made during the show are not supported by the objective information.

Even before the notorious De Vries show, Joran said that his assumed confessions in the case aren't true. Joran kept to the story that he had nothing to do with the disappearance when he was questioned last friday by detectives of the Aruban police.

The lawyer explains: Joran explained with facts why his confession can't be true. He remains confident that what he told can be proven to be false.

According to his lawyer, Joran is available for questioning by the Justice Department which is still investigating the matter. De Rooij isn't optimistic about Joran's mood: "I have the impression that he is very down, especially because of the statements made by the dutch population. He is being threatened."

The district attorney appealed the decision of the commissioner who had rejected the arrest of Van der Sloot. The DA wants to arrest him again for the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.

Friend' knows who dumped Natalee

Patrick van der Eem, the man who helped secretly record Joran van der Sloot confessing to being with Natalee Holloway when she died, has himself been secretly recorded by an Aruban tv company, Dutch media report on Friday.

After an interview on a local television station, Van der Eem carried on talking, thinking the cameras had been switched off.

But instead he was recorded saying that he knew who had dumped Natalee’s body at sea and that Van der Sloot had asked him for €2,000 to buy the man’s silence, the Telegraaf reports.

Van der Eem was also heard saying he had known Van der Sloot for several years. On Peter R de Vries’ tv programme, he claimed he befriended the Dutch student in a Nijmegen casino in 2007.

Holloway tapes: Van der Eem used cocaine

Patrick van der Eem, the man who got Joran van der Sloot to confess to being with American teenager Natalie Holloway when she died, was heavily under the influence of cocaine while making the secret recordings, the Volkskrant reports on Tuesday.

In a long interview to mark the publication of his book Overboard, Van der Eem talks of his cocaine addiction, his feelings towards Van der Sloot and tv presenter Peter R de Vries, and the money he has earned from the confession.

One can certainly understand a wish for closure on this, but how is closure to be obtained by simply declaring what is not known must have happened? And what exactly did happen that would put a person´s mind at rest? A simple explanation that Natalee was killed without motive? That there was no evidence found because a perfect crime was possible by three teenagers involved in a murder that no one could verify or find any evidence of? Conflicting stories? Who would buy into this and settle for this as closure? What kind of mind(s) are willing to accept what is not factually proven and announce they are "now at peace"? Thousands of missing prisoners of war were never treated this way. People who went missing under all kinds of strange circumstances were considered to be lost but not dead until evidence showed otherwise. Yet in the Natalee Holloway disappearance a different and strange willingness to discount her life became the search for a body that never appeared and to this day is still only a conjecture.

Botched Holloway case continues to damage Aruba tourism

In February last year, Dutch crime reporter Peter R de Vries screened a controversial documentary which he claimed solved the case. Hidden camera footage showed Joran van der Sloot confessing that Natalee Holloway had become unwell and died on the beach. He said he had arranged for a friend to dispose of the body at sea. However, a Dutch judge ruled that the footage didn't provide sufficient evidence for him to be rearrested.

Investigation continues

The public prosecutor's office says the investigation will be continuing for some months. Chief public prosecutor Hans Mos declined to name a specific date on which the police would close the case. Neither would he say if the office had come any closer to bringing charges against Joran van der Sloot.
