Investigators believe he is still alive.

They suspect a case similar to the Austrian child who was held in captivity for eight years. The officers responsible for the disappearance of Yéremi Vargas are investigating again in the immediate surroundings of the child. They returned to seek new evidence at the church, in college, gym and dance school. They maintain that he can be alive and sequestered. They seek a kidnapper with a profile similar to that of Natascha Kampusch of abducting the child Austrian who escaped after eight years in captivity. As police continue to scrutinize every possible sexual abusers. They have already rejected one hundred.

A year without Yeremi

Twelve months without news. Yeremi Vargas disappeared last March 10, 2007 in the town Canary Neighborhood. Today is a sad anniversary. Searches and crawls through the area have not yet provided data on the whereabouts of the small. The family, a year later, still holds hope alive.

It was in the afternoon of March 10, 2007. Yeremi was playing with his cousins, 9 and 5 years on a site near the family home. It was after 13.30 hours when it lost track of the child.

The grandfather and some of the little guys were at the door of the house when everything happened. They believe that someone took him by the back of the sun. There was the yellow bucket with the little that was playing.

His disappearance mobilized throughout the Canaries. Batidas crowd toured the whole island. Even were created spontaneously routes to crawl in search of the small.

Everything has been investigated, starting with his family. "Until you see the child are all suspects" admitted the grandmother of the child.

One year after the incident, the mother of the small confesses that the disappearance of his son is "a very big mystery." "We have spent thousands of things to the head. All hypotheses are open, because there is nothing to indicate anything." EPF

Judiciary Police Looks for Yeremi Vargas

Yeremi Vargas Disappeared Two Months before Madeleine and he was ‘Seen’ in Portugal

A missing boy disappeared more than a year ago, in Spain, can be in Portugal. The PJ already divulged the image of Yeremi Vargas in their site.

The Judiciary Police is looking for Yeremi Vargas, an eight-year-old boy who disappeared in March of 2007 when he was playing with his cousins, in the street, a few meters away from his grandparent’s house, in Vecindario, in the Canary Islands. A photo of the boy was already placed in the missing person’s online page of the Judiciary Police, asking for the collaboration of persons who eventually have seen him in national territory. According to the PJ, informations received by the Spanish authorities indicate the possibility of Yeremi “to have been a seen” in the North of Portugal, six months after his disappearance. A source of the PJ told 24horas that this was a lead which placed the boy in the Minho Region and which was investigated, with no success. On the other hand, added the same source, the placing of the photo in the Internet was done after a solicitation done by the Spanish Police and by Europol.

Yeremi Vargas disappeared in a matter of minutes. A few minutes went by after 13h30 on the 10th of March, when the grandmother called the family, which was in the street, near to house, to have lunch. They all entered, including the cousins, except Yeremi, a “cheerful, shy and easily frightened boy” who, moments before, was running and playing before the attentive glance of his grandfather.

“A nightmare without an end”

Such as in the cases of Maddie and Mari Luz, hundreds of people joined the Spanish authorities and looked for him everywhere. One hour later, the whole device of control was in progress, with the entries and exits in the island being watched attentively. Without success. Yeremi Vargas was never found, for despair of the parents and of the whole family. “This is a nightmare without an end”, says the aunt, Milagros Suárez, guaranteeing without doubts that the child was a victim of a kidnapping. Otherwise, she affirmed, “he would have managed to perfectly arrive at the house”, because he knew well the whole neighbourhood. In this case, as in those of missing children, the leads followed by the police and the suspicions raised to the family have not produced any results, pushing the investigation for a dead end.

False Leads

Similar to what happened with Maddie and Mari Luz, also in the case of Yeremi Vargas there have been appearing several false leads and various ‘witness accounts’ that guarantee to have seen the boy, in several places. A 27-year-old man, with criminal record, was detained by the Spanish police after an attempt to pass as the kidnapper, trying to extort six thousand euros from the family to free the child. It was all an attempt to defraud the Vargas family through extortion. Thousands of posters with the photo of Yeremi were spread by all Spain, including a few, paid by the McCanns, in which the boy of the Canary Islands appears side by side with Maddie. The principal suspect is a man with paedophile criminal records, which, a little time before, had tried to kidnap a girl from the island.

Merly, do you think this statement, "The principal suspect is a man with paedophile criminal records, which, a little time before, had tried to kidnap a girl from the island" means that there is a prime suspect. Are they referring to the one who was trying to extort money. I'm confused because it goes from this man to the photos, and then this statement.

Hope

If you go back to the top of the previous page, you will find that there was an attempted abduction of an 8 year old girl at the beginning of January this year. The child screamed, the mother ran out and the perpetrator drove off (a white van was involved). But the mother and neighbours had enough information to give the police a lead to the man involved in this case.

I'll just post a short extract from one article here to try to refresh your memory:

The possibility that the cases of Yéremi and Sandra [Morales] are related was immediately discussed by those in charge of the searches, who began to work on this. Not because there is any concrete proof – simply there are new circumstances that should be investigated – but to clear all the doubts in this sense.

Yesterday morning the judge authorised searches of the detained man’s family house in Lugo de Las Palmas and of an old domestic animal crematorium situated in the Salineta industrial polygon, where it appears that this individual worked and used to sleep. In this conflictive zone he also had his group of friends. Sources confirmed that no evidence was found on the floor, whilst the inspection of the crematorium is much more complex due to it being an abandoned site where dead animals were brought, and therefore many samples can be found – such as bone or blood remains – which then have to be examined in order to determine whether they are human.

Yes, I did read that, but I didn't recall that they had made him a suspect in Yeremi's case. They are doing further analysis to see if it was animal cremations, but I didn't read "suspect" anywhere.

I was mainly confused because the latest article put the prime suspect information in the same paragraph as the extortion guy. All cleared up now. No need for further clarification.

Hope - I have just read the last two pages again and you are absolutely right.

Enfants Kidnappes have sort of 'leapt' from the police following through a new lead to designating the man who attempted to abduct the 8 year old as the "prime suspect in Yeremi's case".

There is no evidence to link the two cases together at all so far.
