LONDON — A British boy kidnapped from his family's home in Pakistan has yet to be found, British and Pakistani officials said Thursday, following erroneous news of his release which one Pakistani diplomat here said was the result of mistaken identity.

Anguish for family of Pakistan kidnap boy Sahil Saeed

Relatives of a five-year-old boy kidnapped in Pakistan have spoken of their anguish after reports he had been found turned out to be false.

Sahil Saeed's uncle, Raja Khalid Bashir, told the BBC it was "like losing him a second time".

He was speaking from Jhelum, Punjab, where Sahil, from Oldham, Greater Manchester, was snatched from his grandmother's house by armed robbers.

Police have confirmed that Wednesday's reports of his release were untrue.

A new twist has emerged in the case of the kidnapped five year-old British boy Sahil Saeed , who was abducted from his grandmother's house in Pakistan's Punjab province, with investigating officials suggesting that they are probing theories of a family rift as the cause behind the toddler's kidnapping.

According to witnesses, Sahil's father, Raja Saeed, was escorted away by men in suits" when he reached passport control at Manchester airport.

Earlier, Raja's family members in Oldham had said that they were not aware of his plans to return to Britain.

Meanwhile, officials in Jhelum, Punjab, said they are investigating the role of an insider in the kidnapping.

Father helping UK police find Sahil

The father of a five-year-old boy who was kidnapped in Pakistan last week has returned home and is helping officers find his son, police said.

Raja Naqqash Saeed, 28, is aiding authorities "to ensure the safe return of Sahil", Chief Superintendent Darren Shenton said.

Mr Saeed, who was holidaying with his son in Pakistan when he was snatched on Wednesday last week, has now been reunited with his wife Akila at their home in Oldham, Greater Manchester.

Sahil Saeed was taken at gunpoint from his grandmother's house in the Punjab region of Pakistan by raiders who put a £100,000 ransom on his head.

Speculation that his father is a suspect in the case is not correct, Mr Shenton said.

Chief Superintendent Darren Shenton of the Serious Crime Unit said: "Following his return from Pakistan, Greater Manchester Police are working closely with Sahil's father, his wife and the family to ensure the safe return of Sahil."

Mr Shenton stressed the investigation was a Pakistani led operation and added: "Both authorities are keen to ensure that Sahil is returned safe to his mother and father at the earliest opportunity."

Parents of kidnapped boy Sahil Saeed in bitter feud

THE parents of kidnapped British boy Sahil Saeed were at war with one another after his mother dashed his Pakistani father's hopes of getting a UK passport.

Raja Saeed, 28, and his British wife, Akila, 31, denied any feud after Sahil, 5, was snatched at gunpoint while on vacation in Pakistan earlier this month.

But family sources told The Sun the couple had lived apart for more than a year after disputes over money and cultural differences.

It was claimed that Ms Saeed wrote to tell the Home Office she and her husband were estranged, which has wrecked his chances of British citizenship.
