His mother has spoken to him by telephone.

His family say they are overjoyed that he has been released by his kidnappers.

British high commission says he was found safe and well in Pakistan

Sky sourses say that the Punjab law minister has said that sahil has been safe for 4-5 days.

They have been unsure who to hand him over to as they believe there is a custody battle relating to Sahil.

They are not going to hand him over to his extended family in Pakistan.

They say he could return to Oldham as early as tomorrow.

Kidnapped Sahil found in Pakistan

He was reportedly found abandoned on Tuesday morning 20 miles from Jhelum, near a village school in the town of Dinga, in the nearby Gujrat district.

A spokesperson for the family in Oldham said they were "over the moon".

Pakistan kidnap boy found safe

The British High Commission in Islamabad said early today that he had been released and was safe, describing his recovery as "fantastic news".

High Commissioner Adam Thomson added: "It brings to an end the traumatic ordeal faced by Sahil Saeed's family.

"I would like to praise the high level of co-operation between the UK and Pakistani authorities and in particular I would like to thank the Jhelum police for their role in bringing about the safe return of Sahil."

Foreign Office officials said they were unable at present to provide any more details about the boy's release.

British boy kidnapped in Pakistan freed

"We are very happy. Thank God he is safe and sound." said Raja Basharat, the grand-uncle of five-year-old Sahil Saeed.

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, who is also responsible for security in the province where the boy was abducted, told Reuters an "international gang of kidnappers" was responsible.

"We are trying to bust this gang with the help of other countries," he said, without elaborating.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik had said he suspected some relatives were involved in the abduction, which made big news in the British media.

A ransom was paid but police won't say how much or who to!!!!

Sahil was dropped off at an address near a school about 15 miles away from where his grandmother lives!!

He was found by the police in that area and they handed him back to the Jehlum police.

The ransom was not paid in Pakistan or the UK but in another country, more information will follow on that as details become clearer!!

It is still believed that this kidnapping is somehow linked to an international custody battle.

Greater Manchester Police are expected to give a press conference within the hour!!! Approx 9pm
