Confusion over Pakistan kidnap release reports

Police in Pakistan have dismissed reports a British boy who was kidnapped last week has been released.

Five-year-old Sahil Saeed from Oldham, Greater Manchester, was seized by an armed gang while staying with relatives last week.

A Punjab minister has now said that the boy was found on Wednesday and has been handed over to his father.

But Kahlid Mahmoud, superintendent of the police investigation in Jhelum, has told the BBC the reports are false.

The BBC's Aleem Maqbool in Islamabad said: "There is no independent verification of reports he has been released."

Kidnap boy 'found' - report probed

A spokesman at the British High Commission in Islamabad said he received "no evidence" on Thursday morning that the boy had been found. But he added: "We are urgently chasing reports."

There were conflicting reports that his father, Raja Naqqash Saeed, who was with him on the trip, had returned to Britain.

Kidnapped boy Sahil Saeed's fate unclear after reports of rescue

There was confusion today over the fate of Sahil Saeed, the five-year-old British boy kidnapped in Pakistan, after media reports that he had been found were contradicted by police chiefs.

A Punjab minister, Rana Sanaullah, told Geo TV that Sahil, who was kidnapped from his grandmother's house in Jehlum a week ago, was rescued in Sialkot, a city in the north-east Punjab province.

He said Sahil had been sent back to the UK to be reunited with his father, and a man and woman had been arrested on kidnapping charges.

But police said the rescued boy was not Sahil, and the minister was mistaken.

A spokesman at the British high commission in Islamabad said this morning he had received "no evidence" that Sahil had been found but reporters were being urgently checked.

Confusing Over 5 Year Old Boy Kidnap In Pakistan

There are conflicting reports about the where abouts of the 5 year old British boy who was kidnapped by robbers in Pakistan last week.

The boy from oldham, Manchester was seized by gang robbers whiles he was on holiday in the country with his father.

A Punjab minister has been reported as saying the boy was found on Wednesday and has been handed over to his father.

But reports from BBC says the important sources dont know if the boy has been found or not. The BBC has quoted Kahlid Mahmoud, superintendent of the police investigation in Jhelum as saying the claims are false.

The five-year-old British boy allegedly kidnapped by gunmen in Pakistan has been found, it has been reported.

UK diplomats said they were "urgently" checking reports that Sahil Saeed, from Oldham in Greater Manchester, had been located by local police officers.

Sky News reported that he had been found on Wednesday, quoting Pakistani government officials.

But a spokesman for Muhammad Aslam Tareen, who is leading the investigation for Punjab police, said on Thursday that officers had "no update".

Confusion over location of kidnapped British boy

LONDON — The whereabouts of a British boy kidnapped from his family's home in Pakistan was unclear Thursday, with conflicting reports that he may have been found and diplomats scrambling for confirmation.

Pakistan's High Commissioner to London Wajid Hasan first told The Associated Press that 5-year-old Sahil Saeed had been found, telling the AP he had the information from Islamabad. But within half an hour Hasan backtracked, saying he wasn't so sure.

"Now I've come to know that there's confusion about it so I don't want to make further comments," he told the AP. In comments to the BBC at around the same time, he said that "I think that if he has not been found he is about to be found."

Pakistan's high commissioner, Wajid Shamsul Hasan, says reports that British boy has been found was a case of mistaken identity.

Sahil Saeed has not been found.

Police are still working on the case and hope he will be recovered soon!!!

It seems to be some sort of internal tiff amoung the family members, that has caused this crisis.

Agony for the mother especially. Some tiff between the wife and the husband and some other family members.

This will come to to proof that it was a family matter/tiff

The family is a large one and they must be shifting the boy from one place to another, but they (I assume police) are keeping a close step on them, they must be settling their own disputes but he doesn't know as he's not privvy to it.

The police are working on it 24 hours a day and are confident they will discover the boy.

Recover the boy soon

The father did not leave Pakistan for London.

He is being looked after by Police in Pakistan as he is the prime person in the case.

He was the person who brought the child and the finger has been pointed at him by his wife as something was wrong between them that led to the taking away of the boy by him to Pakistan.

The boy was very close to his mother.

The father is there.

The child is there.

He has no reason to disbelieve that there is any other impression that has been created as to why the child has been taken away.
