PI says missing baby Gabriel is still alive‎

Private investigator Ken Gamble believes that Gabriel Johnson, the baby that was last seen with his mother at an apartment complex, is still alive.

"I do believe he is alive, because I do believe the meeting occurred here," said Gamble referring to notes written by Gabriel's mom.

Gamble said that handwritten notes from Elizabeth Johnson's journal says that she met a couple at Raymond Rimkus Park. Gamble thinks a third party set up the meeting where Elizabeth gave Gabriel to the couple.

"It's very unlikely that the couple don't know what was going on. They just have very strong beliefs about the child," said Gamble.

Gamble says the public should be keeping a look out for the couple that he say are in their mid 30s or 40s. The man is tall with short, dark hair and the woman is about 5' 6" tall and has long, blond hair. Gamble doesn't believe that the couple are still in Texas and probably drove to Texas to pick up the baby.

Judge Delays Hearing For Mother Of Missing Baby‎
Court Appearance Rescheduled For Later This Month

A Phoenix judge delayed a scheduled court hearing for Elizabeth Johnson, mother of missing baby Gabriel Johnson.

The hearing was rescheduled for Dec. 9.

Johnson, of Tempe, is charged with kidnapping the 8-month-old. The boy hasn’t been seen or heard from since last Christmas. Since then, Johnson has refused to say what she did with her child.

Johnson’s trial is expected to begin on May 9.

Baby Gabriel custody ploy is alleged‎
State: Suspect sought to adopt baby's mom

The state has alleged that a Scottsdale woman charged in the disappearance of Baby Gabriel Johnson discussed adopting his mother as a way to gain custody of the child, according to a defense motion.

The state says Tammi Smith, 38, who wanted to adopt Gabriel, and Elizabeth Johnson, 24, of Tempe, the baby's mother, also discussed seeking a change of venue to Tennessee in the custody case.

In addition, the state alleges, the two talked about using child-support payments to pressure the baby's father, Logan McQueary, into surrendering his rights, according to the motion.

Even if these conversations took place, they were legal, according to the defense motion.

"The discussion of an adult adoption or a change of venue . . . cannot be made criminal under a vague conspiracy law," argues the motion, filed Dec. 1 in Maricopa County Superior Court on behalf of Smith.

Woman reportedly tried to adopt Baby Gabriel's mom in order to to claim child

There is new Information in the Baby Gabriel case.

Authorities revealed Tuesday that 38-year-old Tammi Smith wanted to adopt Gabriel's 24-year-old mother, Elizabeth Johnson, as a way to gain custody of the 11-month old baby.

According to Chron.com, the discussion over the possible adoption shows to what extremes Smith was willing to go to gain custody of Baby Gabriel.

Johnson Confession Reportedly Came During Jail Interview

A source close to the missing Baby Gabriel investigation has told CBS 5 News that his mother, Elizabeth Johnson, confessed to a San Antonio, Texas, detective in May she killed her son.

That confession came during an unauthorized meeting between Johnson and the detective in the Estrella Jail in Phoenix, a meeting of which her attorney was unaware.

Because the meeting was unauthorized, it is not admissible in court unless there is a ruling otherwise.

Detective John Salame of the San Antonio Police Department might have been just moments away from learning the location of Gabriel Johnson's body when one of Johnson's attorneys appeared and ended the meeting, the source said.

Lawyers Want Charges Dropped in Baby Gabriel Case‎

The mother of missing baby Gabriel -- Elizabeth Johnson -- will be back in court Thursday morning.

Her lawyers want her kidnapping charges dropped because of some new jailhouse interviews. They say a detective from San Antonio police flew to Phoenix to interview Johnson about the missing child without their consent.

That detective, Jesse Salame, said Johnson confessed to killing the child to get back at his father.

In October, Chief William Maniss defended his detective.

Mother of missing AZ child due in court‎

The mother of a missing Arizona child is due in a Phoenix courtroom Thursday for a status conference on her case.

Elizabeth Johnson is set to go on trial May 9 in Judge Paul McMurdie's courtroom. The Superior Court says the trial is likely to last three weeks.

Johnson was found competent to stand trial in September.

Year-old tape reveals Baby Gabriel's mother confessing‎

In a telephone conversation recorded nearly a year ago, Baby Gabriel Johnson's mother tells the boy's father that she killed him and that he made her do it.

"You made me kill my baby boy," Elizabeth Johnson is heard telling Logan McQueary during a phone call he recorded last Dec. 27, the last day Baby Gabriel of Tempe was seen alive.

Elizabeth's grandfather, Bob Johnson, said Elizabeth recanted the statements she made to McQueary almost immediately. He said McQueary must have given the recording to a Phoenix television station, KPHO-TV, which aired it Monday.

A Phoenix television station broadcast a tape of a conversation between the parents of a missing baby in which the mother tells the father she killed the boy.

The recording was aired Monday on KPHO-TV, The Arizona Republic reported. The father, Logan McQueary, recorded his conversation with Elizabeth Johnson, which occurred Dec. 27, 2009.

Jailed Mother Details Who Helped Her Give Her Boy Away

For several weeks, Elizabeth Johnson told investigators, Tammi Smith was trying to adopt baby Gabriel. So much so that Johnson felt pressured and had to get out of town.

"I just freaked out. I felt like I was being trapped and I think Tammi picked up on that and she was like, 'Well, if you don't want to come back, there's other options. We're going to help you no matter what,'" said Johnson.

Smith allegedly had previously offered Elizabeth money, forged court documents, and according to this interview with police, Johnson said that was just the beginning of Smith's schemes.

"She said that her adoption lawyer in Tennessee could get a birth certificate saying she gave birth to the baby. She said she had 30 days to be able to turn that in, saying it was a home birth and that she, you know, no one would know the couple months difference, and you know, in a few years, no one would know what the baby looked like," Johnson told investigators.

When Johnson, on a whim, went to Texas instead of Tennessee, she said Smith had another plan to wrestle Gabriel from his father's custody.

Elizabeth Johnson could be heard on previous audio tapes saying she handed Gabriel over to a couple in a San Antonio park, but in an investigative recording made by Tempe police, she describes to the boy's father how she killed Gabriel.
