This scam seems to of backfired on them very badly.
And I don't think there will be an awful lot of sympathy for them.

But it is the children that we all sympathise with, they are the innocent ones and Shannon was used s a Pawn in a giant chess game, that is just beyond my understanding.

Indeed, this is completely beyond understanding and belief.

What I can't get my head round is how they thought they would actually get away with such an absurd scam!
How were they going to claim money, be it through the McCanns fund or from reward money? (assuming that was the plan) Who was going to find Shannon and claim the prize?
How could it ever have worked? Really beyond comprehension.

Do you not remember the stories immediately following Shannon being found? The family were offering to sell their stories for £135,000 - £250,000 each (depending on who they were).

Goodness knows if Karen and Craig were paid for the ITV documentary they did.

So even without claiming reward money, even one story per family would have set them up for life!

Alice Meehan (Mother)
Caroline Meehan (Sister)
Amanda Hyett (Sister)
Karen Matthews (Partner) - charged

and Craig Meehan himself who still has not been charged with any offences related to the abduction. I just can't see him NOT being involved - can you?

Nothing would surprise me with this crew though.

The police could also have been buying time by charging him with the indecent images on his computer so as not to warn the rest of the family including Karen, that they were on to them until they gathered more evidence! The police have always said that there could be further charges against him!!

Maybe then that's where the police got some of their information from?
Once he realised Karen wanted nothing to do with him he may have told the police what he knew.

None of them appear very bright.

Karen visited Craig in prison after he was charged and apparently 'finished with him'.

You could have something there KJ - I wonder if Craig himself 'blew the whistle' when he thought he was being cut adrift - he would be inside serving time for child porn and the rest would be selling their stories and raking in the money.

Are you serious??? I can't believe it! I saw that woman when Shannon was missing and I was so heartbroken for her!

I just can't get my head around it, what are some people like???

Treasure - she fooled us all. I used to end up crying with her when I heard her pleas on TV. I worried about what had happened to Shannon.......I joined the volunteer search party in Dewsbury.

The latest news has us reeling day by day. We just don't know what else the West Yorkshire Police will uncover!

All 4 children are in care now.

We were all duped but you actually got yourself involved in the search, giving up your own time to look for what we thought was a missing child.

No wonder there is so much anger in the community.

Treasure, we haven't heard from him since the Friday night she was found. He said it was like 'winning the lottery'.

He has refused to speak the the press ever since Craig Meehan was arrested - but his friends have said that he has offered Shannon a home with him. So too have the grandparents (Karen's mum and dad).

Social Services will have to make sure that they place them appropriately though - after a full case-investigation. That MIGHT mean that they believe that foster-carers will be the best placement for the children.
