Baby Ania Duncan's cause of death still under review

CLEVELAND — The Cuyahoga County coroner's office conducted an autopsy this morning on 6-month-old Ania Duncan, whose body was found Thursday in a West Side trash bin.

The coroner's office deferred ruling on the manner and cause of the child's death pending further investigation, according to spokesman Powell Caesar.

CLEVELAND - Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason announced that Dimetreus Duncan was indicted on charges of Aggravated Murder, Kidnapping, and Gross Abuse of a Corpse.

On January 14, 2009, Duncan, 19, of Cleveland, murdered his 6-month-old daughter, Ania Duncan, at 9302 Denison Avenue. While the victim's mother slept in the bedroom, he suffocated the victim in the living room with a pillow. He wrapped the body in a blanket, put it in a trash bag, and placed feces in the bag to mask the odor.

Duncan disposed of the body behind the apartment building. He later removed the body and disposed of it in a dumpster at West 95th and Lorain.

Duncan is being held on a $1 million bond at the Cuyahoga County jail.

Arraignment is scheduled for 2-12-09

Prosecutor: Cleveland father indicted in baby daughter's death, could face
death penalty

OHIO:

A grand jury has indicted a Cleveland father on charges of aggravated
murder, kidnapping and gross abuse of a corpse in the death of his infant
daughter.

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason says the father, 19-year-old
Dimetreus Duncan, could face the possibility of the death penalty if
convicted.

Mason's office alleges that Duncan suffocated his 6-month old daughter,
Ania, with a living room pillow on January 14 at a home on Denison Avenue
while the baby's mother slept in another room. Mason says Duncan then
wrapped the body in a blanket and put it in a trash bag. Duncan then,
according to prosecutors, put feces in the bag to mask the odor of the
baby's body.

The infant's remains were found in a trash dumpster near West 95th and
Lorain.

Duncan is being held at the Cuyahoga County Jail on at $1 million bond. He
is scheduled to appear in court later this week.

Dimetreus Duncan sentenced to 20 years to life for killing daughter

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A 20-year-old Cleveland man who smothered his baby daughter and dumped her body in a garbage bin was sentenced to life in prison with parole eligibility in 20 years.

Dimetreus Duncan pleaded guilty to murder and kidnapping Wednesday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court and was sentenced.
