smokie that is such a tragic story. I can't understand it at all. I also don't understand the father not doing more. I hope he doesn't get custody either.Oh dear child,poor child,hope he gets the very best care anyone can give him.

Woman found mentally unfit; charges dropped

Murder charges are dismissed, a father is heartbroken and King County prosecutors must now wait to see whether a woman accused of letting her baby sons starve as she drank herself unconscious will ever be mentally fit to stand trial.

Marie Robinson apparently believes her sons aren't really dead but actually were kidnapped by secret police who want to stop her from doing scientific research, according to court documents.

On Wednesday, a King County Superior Court judge said she had no choice but to dismiss the charges and refer Robinson for civil commitment to a state mental hospital as someone who is dangerously mentally ill.

Guilty plea in starvation deaths of young sons

SEATTLE -- A woman who prosecutors say let her two sons starve to death while she drank herself into a stupor in their Kent apartment pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of first-degree manslaughter and one count of reckless endangerment.

Marie Genevieve Robinson entered the pleas Thursday in King County Superior Court and could face up to 34 years in prison if a judge signs off on the agreement to an exceptional sentence.

State hospital finds her fit to stand trial

A mother who was once too mentally ill for a murder trial but not ill enough to be committed to a state hospital resolved the question of what would happen to her Thursday, when she pleaded guilty to letting her babies starve to death.

Marie Robinson could face 34 years in prison under an agreement with King County prosecutors when she is sentenced Nov. 16.

The recommended term is roughly double the typical 13 to 17 years for two manslaughter charges because the children were so vulnerable.

SEATTLE -- A woman who prosecutors say let her two sons starve to death while she drank herself into a stupor in their Kent apartment was sentenced Friday to 34 years in prison, more than twice the standard sentencing range.

Marie Genevieve Robinson was passed out drunk, lying in bed with the covers over her head, when police entered her apartment on Nov. 14, 2004, prosecutors said.

...Before sentencing Robinson to prison, King County Superior Court Judge Michael C. Hayden told her he wanted her to understand that she would be spending most if not all of the rest of her life in prison.

"There's no sentence that I can impose that will do anything to repair what's happened," he said.
