Amber Alert Issued After Baby's Mom Found Dead
Police: Body In River Is Mother Of Missing 4-Month-Old
Metro police confirmed Tuesday that a missing 4-month-old's mother is the woman found in the Cumberland River last weekend. An Amber Alert has been issued for the baby, Zaylee Grace Fryar of Millersville, Tenn.
On Saturday night, someone walking on the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge called police to report a body floating in the water. Investigators said they believe the body had been in the water for some time. Police have identified the woman as 28-year-old Shauna Marie Fryar, the missing baby's mother, through her fingerprints.
Police said there was no sign of trauma to her body, and her cause of death isn't yet known. They said they don't know if she died before entering the water.
Metro police said there's no evidence to suggest Zaylee is in the water.
The baby has black hair and brown eyes and weighs 12 pounds. She has a quarter-size brown birthmark on her right leg. She was last seen with Fryar on May 1 at their home.
On May 5, Fryar's husband, who isn't Zaylee's father, reported his wife and Zaylee missing. Millersville police said the man told them he went to a store at about 9 a.m. on May 1 and that Fryar and Zaylee were gone when he returned.
Police said no personal belongings for the baby or Fryar were missing, that Fryar's purse, cellphone and diaper bag were still at the apartment complex. They said Fryar had a history of drug addiction and that she may have been trying to get illegal drugs about the time she was last seen.
Detectives said the mother and baby were fine April 30, when they visited a family member in Pegram.

The mystery around a missing a 4-month-old is deepening. Many are asking where Zaylee Grace Fryar is and how her mother ended up dead in the Cumberland River.
At 1:30 a.m. the day before Shauna Fryar's husband said he last saw her, she posted on her Facebook page that she was "thankful" and was counting every "blessing."
She wrote that she was especially grateful for every "smile" from her new baby girl. The timestamp for the posting was 1:10 a.m. April 30.

Missing Infant's Grandmother Speaks Out
One day after announcing Shauna Fryar's body had been found in the Cumberland River, the search for her four-month-old daughter is intensifying.
Millersville Police on Wednesday questioned anyone and everyone who knows Shauna and little Zaylee Grace Fryar. Metro Police, meanwhile, continue to scour the waters of the Cumberland River.
From their home in Springfield, Zaylee's grandmother and aunts are holding out hope she's still alive.
"We're praying about it, praying about my grandbaby," said Sandra McMurry.
Her son, Thurman McMurry, is Zaylee's biological father. He's not a suspect in the case because he's currently behind bars at the Robertson County Jail, serving time on an unrelated assault charge.

No One Ruled Out In Missing Baby Case
Phone Records, Facebook Posts Combed For Clues
With each passing day, concern is growing for the family of a 4-month-old girl whose mother turned up dead without her.
Police spent Thursday interviewing more than a dozen people, hoping to find even a bit of information that may lead to baby Zaylee Grace Fryar. They also started gathering surveillance video from businesses around Millersville, where the baby lived, and Nashville, where Zaylee's mother was found.
"We're hoping somebody just finds her or turns her in or anything, anything that could help," said family friend Emily Schendel.
Schendel and D'andre McMurry said they wish they could answer the question so many are asking: Where is baby Zaylee?
"It's been hard on us. We don't know where she at," said McMurry.

Dad Speaks About Missing Millersville Child
4-Month-Old Zaylee Grace Fryar Missing; Mom Found Dead
The father of a missing 4-month-old girl is pleading for her safe return.
Zaylee Fryar has been missing for more than a week. Her mother's body was pulled from the Cumberland River over the weekend.
“But I want my daughter here with me. She ain’t got her mother. She needs to be here with her daddy,” said Zaylee's father, Thurman McMurry.
This was supposed to be the day McMurry reunited with his daughter after a month apart, but 4-month-old Zaylee Grace Fryar is missing.
“If anybody has her or knows where's she at, I wish they would at least bring her to me, so she could at least be with her daddy,” said McMurry.
McMurry was released from the Robertson County Jail on Friday where he'd been since mid-April for an unrelated assault charge.
On Tuesday, he got the news while in jail that Zaylee was missing and the child's mother, Shauna Fryer, had been found dead in the Cumberland River.
McMurry said he and Fryar had planned to continue their relationship and live in Millersville once he was released.
Police don't consider McMurry a suspect because he was in jail when the mother and baby disappeared.

Missing Baby's House Searched As Neighbors Watch
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents had an audience of curious onlookers in Millersville on Monday while searching the last place they'd been told 4-month-old Zaylee Fryar and her mother, Shauna, were seen.
A week ago, Shauna Fryar was found floating in the Cumberland River near the Jefferson Street Bridge in Nashville. There were no visible signs of trauma to her body. Zaylee is still missing.
"We don't have any indication now whether the baby is alive or dead," said Kristin Helm of the TBI.
Fryar's husband reported the two missing May 5. Michael Fryar said he had returned home from a store four days earlier and discovered the mother and child were gone. He said that wasn't unusual.
Police said what does appear unusual is the fact that Fryar left home without her car, cellphone, purse and Zaylee's diaper bag. Zaylee is not Michael's biological daughter.
On Monday, TBI agents were examining the door of the trailer home and taking pictures outside.

FBI Joins Search For Missing Baby
The FBI has joined the search for 4-month old Zaylee Fryar. The child was discovered missing after Metro Police pulled her mother's body from the Cumberland River more than a week ago.
They're hoping the FBI can help. An FBI agent whose specialty is examining bodies found in water is helping Metro Police.
On Monday morning, crime scene investigators with the TBI searched the child's house in Millersville for the first time.
Neighbors watched while crime scene investigators searched the Millersville home of Shauna and Michael Fryar.
"There's nothing specific we're looking for in connection to the baby's whereabouts. It's more of a blanket go through comb everything to see if there's anything unusual that we can find that might lead us to believe what happened to her," said TBI spokeswoman Kristin Helm.

Friends Think Missing Baby With Family Members
4-Month-Old Zaylee Fryar Last Seen May 1
Willie and Pamela Hamilton are praying the impossible happens outside their inner-city church in Springfield: "Zaylee to be found and justice for Shauna's death," said Pamela Hamilton.
Four-month-old Zaylee Fryar was last seen with her mother in Millersville on May 1. A few days later, Shauna Fryar's body was found in the Cumberland River near the Jefferson Street Bridge in Nashville.
There has been no sign of Zaylee.
Pamela Hamilton grew up with the baby's biological father, Thurman McMurry. On Wednesday, the Hamiltons are joining other churches to hold a candlelight vigil for the missing baby.
"All I know is that with Thurman, he's missing his child, and if this was me, I would want somebody to help me," said Pamela Hamilton.
It was Fryar's husband, Michael, who told police he last saw the 28-year-old and her baby when he was leaving to go to the store. He told police they were gone when he returned.
On Monday, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents were back at the trailer where Zaylee was last seen, searching for clues to her whereabouts.
Now, the Hamiltons have their own theory in a long list that police are investigating.
"What I do believe is this: Family members that have this baby, and we just want to do a vigil to have them return this baby," said Willie Hamilton.

Missing baby's mom led trouble-filled life, but girl was her 'everything'
Zaylee Grace Fryar was born five months ago to a mother with a long history of drug addiction and abusive boyfriends.
In Zaylee’s first days of life, her mom was beaten by Zaylee’s biological father, police said.
The mother and daughter were homeless, couch-surfing from her great-grandparents’ house to a motel room to a $135-a-week trailer home in Millersville. Twenty-eight-year-old Shauna Fryar had seven other children, but all had been taken out of her care by the authorities.
Then, on May 1, the mother and daughter disappeared.
Shauna left her cellphone and car keys in the trailer home where she was living with Michael Fryar, her long-estranged husband and friend. She left her late-model Honda Accord. And she left Zaylee’s diaper bag.
They were just gone.
Michael Fryar didn’t report them missing until four days later. After all, he said, Shauna had done this before — at least four times during their 12-year, on-and-off marriage.

Search For Zaylee Fryar Hits One Month Mark
The search for a missing infant has reached the one-month mark. Four-month-old Zaylee Fryar and her mother disappeared on May 1st.
A week later, authorities found Shauna's body in the Cumberland River, but not the baby.
"That still to this day is my concern. The baby. The welfare of the baby," said Millersville Police Chief Ronnie Williams. "I've got two children of my own, two little girls, so it touches home."
He said his officers, along with the TBI, FBI, and the National Center For Missing & Exploited Children, have devoted countless hours to the search for Zaylee.
They've scoured the Millersville mobile home park where mother and daughter were last seen. Investigators also spent several days searching the waters of the Cumberland River, but never saw any signs of the baby.
Family members are holding out hope that she's alive.
"I'm not going to give up, because I want to find out where she is," said Zaylee's father, Thurman McMurry. "I don't call her Zaylee, I call her my angel."
Police have said McMurry is not a suspect, because he was in jail when Zaylee and Shauna went missing. McMurry believes someone out there knows something about his daughter's whereabouts.
