Exploring path to dad's home‎

POLICE are investigating possible sightings of Lucas Ward that could draw a direct path between his grandparents’ Graham Road home, where he was last seen, and his father’s home in Owen Road.

Four-year-old Lucas is known to wander and information about five possible sightings is vital to the police search.

“We are increasingly concerned about Lucas and his wellbeing,” said Gisborne Police area commander Inspector Sam Aberahama.

“We’re urging all residents, especially those in the Kaiti area, to check their properties for signs of Lucas.

“There are many places small and inquisitive children can explore and unwittingly become lost, injured or stuck. Lucas could be hurt, be in a situation where he is unable to move and we need to consider all options . . . so we’re asking people to have a good look around their sections, search those sheds, garages, boats and other places that kids crawl into.”

Claim missing boy's bike found next to river‎

Missing Gisborne preschooler Lucas Ward's bike was found next to the dangerous and deep Waimata River, a neighbour claims.

She was also given information by a searcher that Lucas had been given a packet of chips, which was found unopened in the river.

''I honestly think he's tipped off his bike and gone into the drink.''

The woman, who has lived next to the river for 22 years, said it was ''very deep and muddy''.

''If you walked in there you would be up to your neck in mud.''

Gisborne police chief Sam Aberahama said he would not comment on the claims ''at this stage''.

The neighbour described Lucas as ''a dear little boy.''

Search for missing boy extended‎

Police in Gisborne are to extend the search for Lucas Ward, who has been missing since Tuesday, out to sea.

The search is into its sixth day. Sunday will be the first time the police have searched for him past the mouth of the Waimata River.
