'Sponsorship' blow for mum
A BAHRAIN mother's fight to win back custody of her son in the Qatari courts suffered yet another blow yesterday, after the company sponsoring her stay there withdrew its support at the last minute.
Rebecca Jones learnt of the Qatari company's decision on Sunday - the night before she was due to appear in court for the latest hearing in battle for her son Adam.
The court yesterday adjourned the case until March 16 after accepting a letter from Mrs Jones' Qatari sponsor, who she declined to name, announcing it had terminated her employment.

New blow to Rebecca stinks of dirty tricks
Something stinks about the latest twist to Bahrain mum Rebecca Jones' fight to regain custody of her 10-year-old son Adam from relatives of his late Qatari father.
How is it that a letter from a company withdrawing its sponsorship of Rebecca's residency was handed first to the Qatari relatives' legal team, while all she knew of it was from a phone call the night before the latest court hearing?
The company has every legal right to withdraw its sponsorship, but to do so without warning, at such a crucial stage of the legal proceedings, is reprehensible.
Adam's uncle is a senior Qatari policeman and as such is in a position to wield a great deal of influence.
It is worthy of inquiry by the court as to whether any pressure was put on the company to withdraw its sponsorship and therefore damage Rebecca's legal standing.

New blow for mum
A DESPERATE mother battling to regain custody of her 10-year-old son was dealt another blow yesterday when a second Qatari company backed out of sponsoring her.
Briton Rebecca Jones entered the High Family Appeals Court in Doha with hopes of being reunited with Adam after being offered sponsorship days before the hearing.
But she was left heartbroken after the firm withdrew from the agreement under suspicious circumstances half an hour after yesterday's hearing.
One of the conditions of the case, which could now drag on into its seventh month, is that Mrs Jones must be sponsored by a Qatar-based company.

Verdict date set in Adam's case
THE fate of a 10-year-old Bahrain boy allegedly abducted by his Qatari relatives will now be decided in just over a month.
A court in Qatar yesterday adjourned the five-month custody battle over St Christopher's Junior School pupil Adam Jones until May 2 for a verdict.
However, his mother Rebecca Jones has already registered her son's case in the UK under the Child Abduction Act and intends to return to Britain in the coming weeks to begin proceedings at the High Court of Justice, London.
She is planning the UK action because she already fears the worst, having been unable to secure a new sponsor in Qatar.

British woman loses custody battle
A British mother at the centre of a legal battle in Qatar’s courts, has reportedly lost her seven-month fight to regain custody of her 10-year old son.
Rebecca Jones, whose son Adam has been living with his uncle for the duration of the court case, originally came to Qatar on a weekend visit.
She claimed that during their trip her son was kidnapped from her and after numerous court appearances and appeals, local courts have ruled that Adam should be kept in the care of his elderly Qatari grandmother.
Even though Adam stated in court that he wished to return to his mother and family based in Bahrain, the courts ruled that Jones had no right to custody of her son.

Bravest little boy in the world
A BAHRAIN mother has described her son as the "bravest little boy in the world" after breaking the devastating news to him that she had lost her custody fight.
However, Briton Rebecca Jones has vowed to continue her battle to win back her son Adam, despite a Doha court granting custody to his Qatari relatives.
Ms Jones met Adam on Monday and said the verdict was hard to comprehend, but revealed his words to her had given her strength.
"The past seven months have devastated my whole family," she wrote on her Facebook campaign page on Monday night.
"Yesterday (Sunday) was hard to comprehend, but as my son told me tonight: 'Mum, they won this battle but we will win the war.'
"Bless him. I've told him the truth, he had tears in his eyes for a few minutes, but when I told him that we were going to continue fighting he was okay.
"My beautiful son is the bravest little boy in the world. I am the proudest mother alive to have him as my son."

Adam and Sarah - innocents failed by the law
I have always believed that the law should be tempered by compassion, whether it be in the criminal, civil or religious courts.
But there is no compassion in the treatment of two Bahrain-based mothers, whose children were taken from them and who are still battling against seemingly impossible odds to get them back.
On Sunday a court in Doha quashed Briton Rebecca Jones' appeal to overturn an earlier order granting custody of her 10-year-old son Adam to Qatari relatives, after he was allegedly snatched from her after she was duped into visiting them from Bahrain more than seven months ago.
In Bahrain, Filipina Lecita Flores is still fighting to be reunited with her now seven-year-old daughter Sarah after six years - despite repeated court orders that her Bahraini relatives should hand her back.
The Qatari ruling over Adam's fate and the failure by authorities in Bahrain to enforce court orders that Sarah be handed back to her mother, are testimony to the reality that women in this part of the world have no right even to the children they give birth to.

A devastated British mum told last night how she was TRICKED into losing her ten-year-old son to his scheming Qatari grandmother.
Rebecca Jones signed legal papers written in Arabic and witnessed by her dead husband's family - believing they were about an inheritance for her boy Adam.
But instead the documents gave full custody to 77-year-old Mariam Al Madhaiki - who immediately swept the frightened child away from Rebecca and enrolled him in an Islamic school in Qatar.
Last week, to Rebecca's dismay, Sharia judges in the Middle East state THREW OUT her appeal to win him back after a seven-month battle - despite Adam sobbing in court: "I want my mother."

A silent wish for justice
........ Then I got to work and picked up the report on Adam Jones and how he would be celebrating his birthday today in the home of virtual strangers, after a bitter custody battle waged and won by his late Qatari father's family.
By fortunate coincidence, it falls on one of the two days his mother Rebecca is allowed to see him each week, so at least they will be together for a few hours.
But he will be without his stepdad and younger sister, or any of the friends he would normally have celebrated with at home here in Bahrain.
When Adam and Rebecca blow out the candles on his birthday cake, they will be watched over by a police escort and there will be no privacy for those loving hugs and kisses. It made me realise how lucky so many of us are to have our children with us and how little things like being a little bit late in the morning are not worth bringing tears to young eyes over.
The action by the Qatari relatives which took Adam away from his mother, during what was supposed to be a happy family visit, was despicably cruel.

New hope for Adam's return
THE case of a Bahrain boy, allegedly abducted by his relatives in Doha, was among the points discussed by Qatari Amir Shaikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and Queen Elizabeth at a recent meeting, it emerged yesterday.
On the Facebook page set up in support of a campaign to secure the return of 11-year-old Adam, Rebecca Jones said she had received an email from the British Embassy in Doha to inform her that her case had been brought up.
The news comes after an earlier plea from the British national for people to write to Queen Elizabeth and UK Foreign Secretary William Hague requesting their assistance in the case.
"The issues concerning Adam's welfare were also brought up by Sir William Hague," she said on the Facebook page.
"I just want to thank everyone for all their time and effort in writing to Her Majesty the Queen or William Hague to try to bring Adam's case into the limelight.
"It has had the desired effect. Let's hope this will be the start of something positive."

Mother fights for "kidnapped" son
A SOLICITOR from the region is spearheading a campaign to reunite a mother with her 11-year-old son, who she claims was kidnapped in the Middle East.
John McArdle of Darlington is in daily contact with Rebecca Jones, who maintains that she was tricked into signing over custody of her son Adam to his Qatari relatives.
Mr McArdle first heard about Mrs Jones story while visiting friends in Bahrain. He said he felt compelled to act.
"Journalists and lawyers are used to dealing with stories that are in shades of grey, he added. But this is not one of them. It is an outrageous miscarriage of closed justice. Every day this boy is retained in Qatar is a day of his childhood lost."

Bullying claim by Adam's mum
A BRITISH mother fighting to regain custody of her son in Qatar claims he is being bullied at home and falling behind at school because of problems adjusting to his new life.
Adam Jones, who has been at the centre of a bitter custody battle since October 2009, is the victim of beatings dealt out by his 14-year-old cousin, according to his mum Rebecca.
The former St Christopher's School pupil, who shares a home with his alleged tormentor, is also failing classes at his new school in Qatar, Ms Jones told the GDN.
She is now more desperate than ever to win back custody of Adam, who she said was being treated like a prisoner and was unable to leave the house of his Qatari relatives.
"He (Adam) is being bullied by his uncle's son," she said.
"He's been kicked, punched, slapped and scratched. I've threatened to report this to the police.
"Adam has also been failing all his subjects at school, every single one - he's really struggling.
"I've made a request to the Children's Authority in Qatar to get a tutor for him and to give him some support, but that's been ignored."
Ms Jones controversially lost custody of Adam 14 months ago after a court in Doha ruled he should live with the relatives of his dead Qatari father.
