Missing boy's grandmother shaken, hopeful
Police want to conduct another search but wonder, 'where do we start?'
Alana Anderson refuses to wipe away the small handprint left on a window at her northwest suburban home — a reminder of her 6-year-old grandson, who has been missing for more than a month.
"I cry a lot," said Anderson, who lives with constant reminders of the boy — the sight of children's clothing in department stores, the garden where he helped her plant beans. "It's like it's somebody else's life, not mine."
Timmothy Pitzen hasn't been seen since May 13 when he and his mother, Amy Fry-Pitzen, left a Wisconsin Dells resort.

No drugs, alcohol found in body of mom of missing Aurora boy
Amy Pitzen had no drugs or alcohol in her system when she was found dead at a Rockford motel May 14.
Pitzen, 43, is the Aurora mother who took her 6-year-old son Timmothy out of his Aurora elementary school on May 11, went on a two-day vacation with the boy to zoos and water parks in Illinois and Wisconsin, and then killed herself at the Rockford Motel, without saying exactly where her son was.
The boy has not been seen since. A note Pitzen left at the motel said, “You will never find him.”
A Winnebago County coroner’s jury ruled Pitzen’s death a suicide Friday morning.
The coroner’s office said while neither drugs nor alcohol were detected, Pitzen did have a very high level of antihistamine in her system. In addition to an empty box of allergy relief medication, police also found a nearly empty bottle of Triaminic, a children’s cold medicine.
Pitzen died from large cuts to her left forearm and neck, said Winnebago County Coroner Sue Fiduccia. Her body was found on the floor of the motel room, with a knife underneath her.
Pitzen left behind a suicide note saying she had left Timmothy with someone, but did not say who.
The handwritten note was signed “Amy” and said: “Tim was somewhere safe with people who love him and who will take care of him. You will never find him.”

We have new information tonight about the Aurora mom that killed herself in a Rockford motel room who left her six-year-old son no where to be found.
Winnebago County Coroner Sue Fiduccia says toxicology results for 43-year old Amy Pitzen show she had three times the normal amount of antihistamine in her system.
Her death has been ruled a suicide. Fiduccia says she bled out from self-inflicted knife wounds to her neck and arm.
Her son, Timmothy Pitzen has been missing since May. Investigators hope to release more information sometime next week.

Woman's death ruled a suicide by coroner's jury
The mother of a 6-year-old boy missing from Aurora predicted the child would “never” be found before taking her own life several months ago in a Rockford hotel room, authorities say.
Timmothy Pitzen last was seen May 13 — one day before his mother Amy Fry-Pitzen was found dead with a box cutter under her body. Winnebago County authorities said Friday that Fry-Pitzen left a note that reads: “Tim was somewhere safe with people who love him and will take care of him. You will never find him.”

New evidence released in search for missing 6-year-old boy
Police hope new evidence will help them get more information about the disappearance of six-year-old Timmothy Pitzen.
Photos, family video and surveillance video were released August 11, 2011.
Timmothy was last seen with his mother, Amy Fry Pitzen, in May 2011. Amy’s body was found in a hotel room May 14. She had apparently committed suicide with a knife. Only Amy’s blood was found on that knife.
Timmothy Pitzen has not been seen since his mother took him out of Aurora Elementary School on May 11, 2011. The Spider Man backpack he carried, and toys usually in his mother’s car, are also missing.
Surveillance cameras captured video of Timmothy and Amy that day. The clothing Amy wore that day is missing, according to police.
Thanks to cell phone records, detectives think the last place Timmothy and Amy were together was in the area of I-88 and I-39 in the Dixon/Rock Falls/Sterling area on May 13. The last cell phone triangulation was at about 1:30 p.m. that day at a point five miles northwest of Sterling, Illinois near Route 40.
Amy’s cell phone was never found by police.
Investigators analyzed blood found in the back seat of Amy’s 2004 Ford Expedition and determined the blood belonged to Timmothy. Family members said the blood could have been from a nose bleed the boy had a year or so prior to his disappearance.
When Amy’s vehicle was found, it had dirt, tall grass and weeds stuck to the underside of the vehicle body. A search of land in the I-88 and I-39 corridors came up empty, but police still hope land owners and outdoor enthusiasts in the area might locate the missing items or other evidence that will help them find Timmothy Pitzen.

Tests find missing Aurora boy's blood in backseat of dead mother's SUV
Police in Aurora searching for a 6-year-old boy whose mother committed suicide say they've found the boy's blood in the backseat of the woman's vehicle.
Aurora police released new information Thursday in the investigation into Timmothy Pitzen's disappearance. The body of his mother, Amy Fry-Pitzen, was found in a Rockford hotel May 15.
Police say they don't know how long the boy's blood was in the vehicle. Family members told authorities it's possible the blood came from a bloody nose the boy suffered over the last 12 to 18 months.
A private forensics lab is continuing tests on the SUV. Police are seeking the public's help to locate the boy. Aurora Area Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward.

Playing toy guitar in his pyjamas: Home video of boy, 6, still missing three months after mother stabbed herself to death
Anguished parents still hoping Illinois schoolboy might be found alive
Strumming along on a makeshift toy guitar wearing his favourite Spiderman pyjamas, little Timmothy Pitzen looks like any normal carefree young boy.
But since this home video footage was taken, the youngster has disappeared from his home and has now been missing for three months after his mother stabbed herself to death in a roadside motel room.
Police investigating the six year old boy's disappearance have now revealed they found his blood in the back seat of the car they were travelling in.
Yet the family of Illinois schoolboy Timmothy Pitzen still hold out hope he might be found alive, telling police the blood was possibly from an old nose bleed.
Timmothy was last seen when he and his mother, Amy Fry-Pitzen, checked out of an amusement resort in the Wisconsin Dells on May 13.

Waupaca Police Don't Believe Missing Boy was Seen in Supermarket
The search for a missing Illinois boy comes to Wisconsin.
As Action 2 News reported over the weekend, there was a possible sighting of six-year-old Timmothy Pitzen, who's been missing from Aurora, Illinois, for about three months, at a Waupaca grocery store.
Timmothy hasn't been seen since May 13, when he and his mother left a Wisconsin Dells resort. The next day, Pitzen's mother was found dead -- an apparent suicide.
She left a note saying her son was OK, but no one has seen the child since.
"The only real witness to this is the mother who is now deceased because she killed herself, so there is nobody for us to talk to or follow up and try and get more information, so yes, it is baffling for us. Baffling, frustrating, and confusing," Lieutenant Pete Inda of the Aurora Police Department said.
According to the Aurora Police Department -- the lead agency on the case -- tips have been coming in about the missing boy from all over the Midwest, including one from Waushara County just last week.
"A woman who actually lives in Glendale, Wisconsin, was in the Waupaca area and she saw a boy resembling Timmothy Pitzen in a grocery store there that one day. The next day she was back home in Glendale, she sees a news story on the news about the missing boy, so she called the Glendale Police who called us, and then we called Waupaca," Inda said.
Asked to follow up on the tip, the Waupaca Police Department obtained surveillance video from a Pick N Save store.
Officers say after reviewing the video Monday, they don't believe any children in the store are Timmothy Pitzen.

Aurora police: Pitzen boy's disappearance may have been planned for months
It was unusual but not necessarily suspicious at the time.
A family was eating at an IHOP restaurant near the Wisconsin Dells. The man sitting in the booth across from them said he had forgotten his wallet and needed to run out to the car. Would they mind keeping an eye on his son, Tim, while he grabbed it?
The dad left his license and son, ran to the car, then returned a few minutes later to pay the bill.
Not long after that, the family came across a report about Timmothy Pitzen, the 6-year-old Aurora boy who has been missing since his mother pulled him out of school on May 11. Timmothy’s face looked familiar. Was it the same boy they had seen the other day?
The family called local police, who routed the report to Aurora police. The call became one of dozens of possible sightings that have come in since Timmothy’s mother committed suicide three days after taking him out of school.
“Obviously whenever there’s a kid missing, and a mother committing suicide, people want to get involved,” Aurora Police Sgt. Robb Wallers said. “We got flooded with phone calls. We take every one of those seriously, especially given the situation.”
People have reported possible sightings of Timmothy Pitzen in grocery stores, hotels and parking lots in Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Pennsylvania, Missouri and Ohio. So far, none of the tips have led police to Timmothy or helped them figure out whether he’s dead or alive.

Missing Boy's Mother Had Secret Email Account: Report
Husband unaware woman had secret account
Aurora Police uncovered new details in the case of Timmothy Pitzen, the 6-year-old boy who disappeared after his mother killed herself in May.
Officers say they retrieved 34 emails from a secret account set up by the boy's mother, Amy Fry-Pitzen.
A search warrant recently made public shows Fry-Pitzen had one Yahoo account her husband could access and one that she didn't tell him about, according to the Chicago Tribune.
FBI profilers thought the woman may have used the email to help plan her actions leading up to her suicide and disappearance of her son, but the lead investigator in the case, Detective Trent Bryne, told the paper the account "had absolutely nothing to do with Timmy's disappearance" and "a lot of it was just spam."
Detectives were not able to get records of Amy Fry-Pitzen's deleted emails because Yahoo does not maintain those records.

Missing Aurora Boy Timmothy Pitzen: Police Release New Report and Video
Police Friday said that new information in the case of a missing Aurora boy may help narrow down their search.
"Obviously, it's a painstaking process," said Aurora Public Information director Dan Ferrelli. Police Department released an analysis of sediment and plants on the SUV which Timmothy and his mother Fry-Pitzen used around the time of his disappearance May 13.
On May 11, Fry-Pitzen took her only son out of Greenman Elementary School in Aurora. Without telling any family members, the two went on a three-day, 500-mile road trip, stopping at zoos and water parks in northern Illinois and Wisconsin.
On the third day, Fry-Pitzen finally called family to report she was fine, and Timmothy was heard in the background. The next morning, police found her body in a Rockford motel. Fry-Pitzen's suicide note said Timmothy would never be found.
Police announced that sediment and plant material on the SUV indicate it had been stopped for a time on a wide gravel shoulder. Near the gravel area, where the vehicle stopped, the SUV was backed into a grassy field near a spot that is treeless. The lab results indicated there were birch and oak trees nearby but not directly at the spot where the SUV stopped.

Police 'at mercy of tips' in missing Aurora boy case
Recent possible sighting wasn't Timmothy Pitzen, police say
On Saturday, Aurora police received the latest tip in the case of missing kindergartner Timmothy Pitzen, who was 6 when he disappeared in May.
Someone reported seeing the boy, who would now be 7, in a Denny's in North Aurora, said Aurora police Detective Trent Byrne, the lead investigator on the case. Police tracked down the owner of a car the boy was riding in and found that the boy thought to be Timmothy was the car owner's son, Byrne said.

Timmothy Pitzen Missing: Reported Sighting Of Boy Who Disappeared In May False
An Aurora, Ill. kindergartener who has been missing since May was reportedly spotted in the Chicago area this week, but the tip turned out to be false when police looked into it further.
Timmothy Pitzen, now 7, was last seen when his mother Amy Fry-Pitzen took him out of his classroom at Greenman Elementary School on May 11 in order to visit the Brookfield Zoo, Key Lime Cove and Wisconsin Dells before she killed herself in a Rockford motel room, CBS Chicago reports.
Since Timmothy's disappearance, police have been forced to rely on tips in the hopes of finding the boy. The Chicago Tribune reports that the boy was last "spotted" at a North Aurora Denny's restaurant, but when police tracked down the owner of the car the boy was seen riding in, he was not Timmothy. Another tip this month had falsely claimed that the boy was in Massachusetts.

Mom of missing Aurora boy remains a mystery to police
It has been nearly eight months since Amy Pitzen pulled her 6-year-old son Timmothy out of school for an unannounced vacation. Mom and son took a three-day, 500-mile road trip, stopping at zoos and water parks in northern Illinois and Wisconsin. On May 14, Amy’s dead body and a suicide note were found in a Rockford motel.
Police and family members are still looking for Timmothy.
In those eight months, Aurora police Detective Trent Byrne has spent hundreds of hours studying surveillance tapes, analyzing clues, responding to possible sightings and scouring electronic records. As the lead investigator in the case, he has gotten to know a boy he never met. If Timmothy walked into a room, Byrne feels reasonably confident that he could predict how the child would act.
Despite equal analysis of Amy Pitzen, she remains a mystery.
“I don’t think I’ve scratched the surface on who she is,” Byrne said this week while reflecting on the case. “People’s perception of her is across the board. I don’t know her very well.”
But that cypher is the heart of the case. It’s what haunts Byrne in his off hours and consumes his time on the clock. Byrne and Detective Lee Cavatu have led an investigation that’s logged thousands of hours on a strange and frustrating case. Byrne has worked the case from Day One, when he happened to run into a patrol officer who had taken the initial missing person report for Timmothy and Amy Pitzen.
