Multi-Agency Search for Missing 6-Year-Old Turns up Empty‎

Aurora police set up a mobile command center in downtown Dixon, coordinating around 70 officers as they search for missing 6-year-old Timothy Pitzen.

"We know that from a ping on a call phone tower in the Sterling, Rock Falls, Dixon area, that's why we know she was here, that's why were here, cause that's our last point of contact," said Aurora Lieutenant Pete Inda.

Officers will check gas stations, restaurants and parks looking for any sign of the missing boy, whose mother was found dead inside a Rockford motel last weekend.

No Sign of Missing Aurora Boy Timothy Pitzen, Search Intensifies‎

The search for a missing six-year-old Aurora boy intensified today, as 70 police officers scoured rural areas in western Illinois, the last place anyone had contact with the boy and his mother.

The multi-agency search focused on more than two dozen locations , including state parks, wooded locations and back country roads in the area surrounding Sterling, Rock Falls and Dixon.

After five hours, investigators called off the search after finding no clue as to the whereabouts of Timothy Pitzen.

Cell phone records put Amy Fry-Pitzen in that area last Friday and people who talked to her told police they heard Tim in the background saying he was hungry.

Search for Boy Continues as Mother Laid to Rest‎

As services were held Saturday for a mother who was found dead in a Rockford motel room, the investigation into her missing son continued....

.... Services for the mother were held Saturday morning at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sugar Grove....

..... In a statement released Saturday, authorities said they were wrong about a detail they'd originally found encouraging. Missing from the mother's vehicle was the boy's carseat. Investigators had thought that meant it was with the boy and with a friend or relative.

It was discovered Friday that the carseat is with the boy's maternal grandmother, with whom he'd spent time a week prior.

Saturday's statement also corrected the spelling of the missing boy's first name to Timmothy.

Family mourns mother in closed service‎

Around 10 a.m. rain drizzled down intermittently outside the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Sugar Grove on Saturday as mourners filed in to the funeral of Amy Fry-Pitzen, who took her life one week ago in a Rockford motel room and left behind her 6-year-old son, Timmothy.

Forty-five minutes later, pallbearers filed out to the gray hearse parked on the church’s property, then moved a van to shield the scene from the press across the street.

The service, overshadowed by the still-missing boy, was for family only.

Mourners trickled out, some carrying flowers, from the front and rear entrances of the church for another 45 minutes.

Meanwhile, police are still searching for Timmothy.

Search has revealed no clues as to whereabouts.

Police in Aurora have released a new photo of six-year old Timmothy Pitzen, hoping someone will be able to find him.

The picture was taken two days before his disappearance more than a week ago.

IL police grow weary as clues in missing boy case hits dead end‎

A young boy who has been missing for well over a week has police coming up short on clues. The 6 yr. old has been missing ever since his mother was found dead in a Rockford, Illinois motel room, along with a suicide note. The note claimed the boy was okay and given to unknown caretakers but police have yet to find any evidence to support the claim. His backpack, which had toys and clothing for the child, are also missing. Police originally believed that his car seat was missing as well but have since confirmed that the car seat has been in the possession of his Grandmother.

Missing Boy's Uncle Says Mother Had Ohio Ties‎

Dave and Jen West are back home after more than a week in Illinois helping search for their missing six-year-old nephew, Timmothy Pitzen, and bury the boy's mother.

Amy Fry-Pitzen, 43, committed suicide at a Rockford, Illinois, hotel on May 15th. She left a note saying that her son was with people who love him.

The West's traveled to Illinois for her funeral, to help support Jen's brother, Jim Pitzen, who is Timmothy's father, and to help in the exhaustive search for the boy.

"It's just, it's hard to believe. It's not reality until we actually got down there to Chicago talked with Jim, and it all kind of sets in," Dave West told Fox 8 News on Monday. "We were, and still are, extremely motivated to find our nephew."

Timmothy Pitzen missing: Cops press on after misinformation over missing boy's car seat

The realization that 6-year-old Timmothy Pitzen's car booster seat was at his grandmother's home — and not with the people with whom his mother said she had left him — was a setback in the investigation to find the missing boy, authorities said Monday.

But police continue to follow leads in the case and may conduct another search for the boy later this week.

Police considered the car seat a key piece of evidence that could have helped them find the Aurora boy, whom relatives last heard from on May 13, while he was with his mother, Amy Fry-Pitzen.

A day later, Fry-Pitzen's body was found in a Rockford motel room, where she apparently had committed suicide. She left a note saying Timmothy was with adults she didn't identify. Police said the fact the car seat was not in Fry-Pitzen's vehicle initially led them to believe she had passed it along to those she said were caring for her son.

Life in limbo as dad, family yearn for word on missing 6-year-old‎

In the backyard, Jim Pitzen has started an impressive tree house. He’s a handy guy and the project is bold. When finished, it will have an 8-foot by 12-foot main room, plus a porch, the perfect perch for a 6-year-old boy to look out on his personal kingdom.

In the living room, signs of a little boy are everywhere: construction paper hats are propped on china cabinets, Spider-Man masks hang in the corner.

And on the walls are pictures of the little boy who’s supposed to be at home. Some of those pictures of Timmothy Pitzen are now pasted on hundreds of missing-person posters hung up across the Midwest, flashed on websites and television stations across the country.

It’s been two weeks since Timmothy’s mother checked him out of his kindergarten class, took him on a vacation and then killed herself in a Rockford motel. Amy Fry-Pitzen’s note indicated that Timmothy was safe and being cared for — but did not say by whom.

At Timmothy’s house, they wait in silence and terror.

Police release video of missing Aurora boy‎

Police have released security video of a missing 6-year-old Aurora boy and his mother checking out of a Wisconsin Dells resort earlier this month -- the last time they were seen together before the mother was found a day later in a motel room where she had killed herself.

The video shows Timmothy Pitzen holding the hand of his mother, Any Fry-Pitzen, as they waited in the lobby of the Kalahari Resort at 10:10 a.m. on Friday, May 13.

After checking out, the two went to the Sterling/Rock Falls area, where Fry-Pitzen made several calls on her cell phone between noon and 1:30 p.m. Timmothy could be heard in the background on the calls, police have said.

Video Shows Missing Boy, Mother Together‎

Surveillance video from the Wisconsin resort where a 6-year-old boy and his mother were last seen was released by authorities Wednesday, nearly two weeks after the boy disappeared.

The security video from the Kalahari Resort was recorded at around 10:10 a.m. on May 13 and was the last time Timmothy and his mother, Amy Fry-Pitzen, 43, were seen together.

Aurora police officials say plans are underway for another ground search for Timmothy Pitzen, but it most likely will not take place until after the Memorial Day holiday. Officials hope to search an area near Sterling, Illinois around Route 40. Timmothy's mother, Amy Fry-Pitzen, placed a call on her cell phone in that area on May 13.

New surveillance video may give investigators clues into the whereabouts of a missing 6-year-old boy from Aurora.

The latest video shows Amy Fry-Pitzen and her son Timmothy, checking out of the Kalahari Resort at Wisconsin Dells on Friday, May 13 at 10:10 a.m. This was the last time the two were seen together.

The next day, Fry-Pitzen was found dead in a motel room in Rockford. She had committed suicide and left a note. In that message, she said Timmothy was safe and in the care of people who she did not identify.

The pair was reported missing Wednesday, May 11 by Fry-Pitzen's husband.

Search for Aurora boy to resume after holiday

With the next organized search for a 6-year-old Aurora boy not planned until after the holiday weekend, officials from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children are encouraging the public to stay vigilant.

"There are a lot of people out there that think that if you don't find the child in 24 hours, or in two weeks, that you won't find the child. That's just not true," said Ernie Allen, president of the center, which has been working closely with local, state and federal investigators to find Timmothy Pitzen.

The Virginia-based group has partnered with letter carriers and Wal-Mart stores to hang posters with photos of the boy, especially around Aurora, Wisconsin Dells and Sterling, where police have determined he stopped with his mother, Amy Fry-Pitzen, before his disappearance.

Aurora police have released pictures of new evidence gathered from the SUV driven by the mother of Timmothy Pitzen.

The 2004 Ford Expedition driven by Amy Pitzen was found in the parking lot of the Rockford Motel on 11th Street on May 14, the day police found her dead in a motel room. The SUV was dirty and had tall grass or weeds stuck in its undercage. Aurora Police are taking samples from the vehicle to be analyzed by geologists and other specialists. They are hopeful the dirt and other samples will lead them to a unique area, possibly in the Rock Falls, Sterling, or Dixon area where Amy and Timmothy were last known to be together. Police have traced them to that area via cell phone calls made on May 13. The last of those calls was made at 1:30 p.m. five miles northwest of Sterling near Route 40. Police have searched several areas in that region, but at this time do not have any future searches planned.

Also on Wednesday, investigators released pictures depicting several toys that Amy bought for Timothy between May 11 and May 13. They are asking the public to be on the lookout for those items, which may have been left outdoors somewhere because they were not found in the SUV. Police are also looking for a Spiderman backpack that was reportedly with Timmothy during his travels with Amy, but was not found in the SUV.

Detectives are also analyzing three computers that belonged to Amy, but so far those hard drives have not turned up any clues.

Investigators searching for a missing 6-year-old Aurora boy said today they are analyzing soil samples found beneath his mother’s SUV shortly after she committed suicide in a Rockford motel room.

Amy Fry-Pitzen’s 2004 Ford Expedition was “visibly dirty” when it was discovered, police said.

Authorities are hoping geologists and other specialists can determine whether dirt and weeds found under the vehicle are unique to the Rock Falls-Sterling area of northwestern Illinois, where she and her son, Timmothy Pitzen, were last known to be together about three weeks ago.

Fry-Pitzen made several cellphone calls from the area, but police have not been able to pinpoint their exact location. Her final call, placed about 1:30 p.m. May 13, put her around five miles northwest of Sterling near Illinois Highway 40, police said.

Despite a massive search that's ensnared federal authorities and taken investigators from Aurora to Dixon to Rock Falls, the boy is nowhere to be found.

Ill. police turn to geologists in search for missing 6-year-old Timothy Pitzen

Investigators said they are asking geologists to help in the search for missing Illinois 6-year-old Timothy Pitzen, who disappeared after his mother committed suicide at a hotel.

"What were trying to do here is pinpoint an area that we can start searching. We got a huge circle and we really need to make that smaller," said Dan Ferrelli, the spokesperson for the Aurora Police Department, reports CBS affiliate KCCI.

Investigators hope Timothy's mother's SUV might provide an important clue in the search.

The SUV has a lot of dirt and grass on it that police are asking geologists and other specialists to analyze.

"What we think is, if any of the vegetation or dirt is unique to any parts of Illinois, it would be a great place to start searching," said Ferrelli, reports the station.

Until experts analyze the SUV, police have suspended ground searches for the boy.

Search for missing Aurora boy complicated by communication problems‎

Aurora police say they faced communication obstacles that may have complicated their recent search for a missing 6-year-old boy near Sterling, Rock Falls and Dixon.

The hunt for Timmothy Pitzen was hindered not by glitches with Aurora’s 7-month-old Harris OpenSky radio system, but because channels designed to allow multiple agencies to communicate weren’t available, Lt. Nick Coronado said Friday.

Coronado said law enforcement agencies almost always face communication challenges when operating outside their normal jurisdictions, as Aurora police were doing during the May 19 search for the boy who went missing May 13.

In this case, the search didn’t uncover any evidence of the missing boy and so no obvious harm was done. But that didn’t make dealing with the complications any easier or less frustrating.

Grandma hopeful that missing grandson will be found‎

Linda Pitzen is still clinging to hope that authorities will find her missing 6-year-old grandson, nearly four weeks after he disappeared from his hometown of Aurora, Ill.

Timmothy Pitzen was last seen May 13 with his mother, Amy Fry-Pitzen, at a grocery store in Winnebago, Ill. Fry-Pitzen’s body was discovered the next day at a motel in nearby Rockford, Ill. According to authorities, Fry-Pitzen committed suicide and left a note that indicated she had left her son with an unidentified couple.

Linda’s son, Jim, went to authorities when his wife and son went missing. Since then, police officers, relatives, volunteers and officials with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children have conducted a massive search for Timmothy stretching across three states.

Linda, a nurse at Chapel Hill Community nursing home in Canal Fulton, recently returned to Ohio from Aurora, about 40 miles west of Chicago.

“It’s almost like a bad dream. You’re going to wake up and it’s going to be over. I think it’s much worse for my son. His house is filled with photos that remind him. The thing that keeps going through my mind is how they (those who have Timmothy) are treating him,” said Linda, a Wooster resident. “... He (Jim) went back to work to try to keep his mind busy. I know he spends a lot of time outside the house doing yard work or whatever so he doesn’t have to be in there.”
