Grandmother of missing boy: 'We don't know if he's alive or dead'
The grandmother of a missing 6-year-old Aurora boy says the family is "praying and hoping" for his safe return.
The boy's mother, Amy Fry-Pitzen, was found dead of an apparent suicide in a Rockford hotel room on Saturday. There was no sign of her son, Timothy Pitzen, but the mother left a note indicating the boy was fine and that she had left him in the care of people who weren’t named.
"It's very devastating," Linda Pitzen said Monday, three days after her grandson Timothy disappeared while with his mother. "We don't know if he's alive or dead."
Timothy was last seen Friday when Fry-Pitzen checked them out of a water park in the Wisconsin Dells.
Fry-Pitzen was found dead of an apparent suicide in a Rockford hotel room on Saturday. There was no sign of the boy but the mother left a note indicating the boy was fine and that she had left him in the care of people who weren’t named.
She had called relatives Friday afternoon to say the two were not in danger. That night, she was seen at a Sullivan's Foods in Winnebago before checking into a hotel in Rockford about 11:15 p.m. without her son, police said. The next day, motel workers found her body.
Linda Pitzen said her daughter-in-law was wonderful wife and mother. “It's just terrible not knowing where he is or who he's with or what happened,” she said.

Still no sign of missing Aurora kindergartner
Police still have no answers for what happened to Timothy Pitzen, the Aurora kindergartner who has been missing since his mother was found dead in an apparent suicide in a Rockford motel room.
Aurora police are working with officers in Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa in their attempt to find the boy. Rockford police have several officers investigating areas where Timothy’s mother, 43-year-old Amy Fry-Pitzen, was last seen.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has dispatched an ADAM-Team made up of former law enforcement professionals and investigators who have additional resources.
Aurora police have interviewed a long list of family members and friends. Officers have reviewed cell phone and credit card records. They are also processing Amy’s home and work computers in an attempt to cultivate additional leads, police said Monday.
Timothy, 6, lived with his father, Jim Pitzen, and his mother in the 400 block of North Highland Avenue in Aurora. Police describe Timothy as 4-foot-2, about 70 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. His father said he was last seen wearing green shorts, a T-shirt, tennis shoes and Spider-Man backpack.

Son of suicide victim probably not abducted, police say
An autopsy performed Monday confirmed that a missing boy’s mother bled to death over the weekend in a Rockford motel.
Foul play is not suspected in the death of Amy Fry-Pitzen, 43, of Aurora, who was found dead Saturday in a room at the Rockford Inn, 3909 11th St. The slits to her wrists are believed to be self-inflicted, officials said.
However, police are at a loss regarding the whereabouts of her 6-year-old son, Timothy J. Pitzen. Aurora police spokesman Dan Ferrelli declined to elaborate on the contents of a letter Fry-Pitzen reportedly wrote, indicating that Timothy was fine and left in the care of people she didn’t identify.
Timothy has been missing since Friday. However, Ferrelli said, the disappearance does not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert.
“We don’t have a suspect,” he said, “and anyone we have talked to, be it friends or family, they have been cooperative.”

Aurora police search for missing boy
Aurora police are piecing together the details of a 6-year-old boy's disappearance that has several ties to the Rockford area.
Timothy Pitzen was last seen with his mother Amy Fry-Pitzen, 43, at a Wisconsin Dells resort last week. Police say Amy was found dead inside a room at the Rockford Motel in the 3800 block of 11th Street on Saturday. She left behind a suicide note that said Timothy was fine and was in the care of unnamed persons.
On Monday, police confirmed Timothy's child safety seat and Spider Man backpack are missing from the 2004 Ford Expedition SUV that was left at the Rockford Motel. Police are hopeful that means she did drop him off with a friend or acquaintance.
Police also say they know Amy checked Timothy out of his Aurora elementary school last Wednesday and went to the Brookfield Zoo. Wednesday night, they stayed at the Key Lime Cove Resort in Gurnee, Illinois before heading to the Wisconsin Dells where they stayed until Friday morning.

Search for 6-year-old son of woman found dead spreads to 3 states
Authorities are looking in three states for a 6-year-old suburban Chicago boy whose mother picked him up from school and took him to the zoo and a Wisconsin water park before she apparently killed herself.
The boy, Timothy Pitzen of Aurora, hasn't been seen since Amy Fry-Pitzen checked out of the Kalahari Resort in the Wisconsin Dells on Friday.
Authorities say Fry-Pitzen left a note saying the boy was fine. They say there are indications the boy may be alive — she used a credit card, for example, to buy children's clothes and toys on Friday. Authorities think she may have dropped the boy off with a friend before she died.
Authorities are searching for the child in Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin.

New clues emerge in search for missing Aurora boy
Police have released new details that emerged Monday afternoon in their search for 6-year-old Timothy Pitzen, the boy whose mother was found dead over the weekend at a motel in Rockford, the victim of an apparent suicide.
Authorities have confirmed that Timothy’s child safety seat and Spider Man backpack are both missing from the 2004 Ford Expedition SUV his mother was driving, a release Monday night from Aurora police said. The discovery came Monday when detectives were reviewing pictures of items left in the vehicle with Timothy’s father at the time it was found in the parking lot of the Rockford motel. Timothy’s mother, Amy Fry-Pitzen, killed herself in a room at the same motel, the Rockford Inn, on Saturday.
The discovery could lend credence to a working theory detectives have that Amy could have possibly dropped Timothy off with a friend or acquaintance, the release said.
In addition, detectives were able to confirm through credit card receipts that Amy apparently purchased some children’s clothes and toys from a Shopko store in the 4800 block of Washington Avenue in Racine, Wisconsin on Friday morning about 11:15 a.m.; and some gasoline and beverages from a Qwik-Trip store located just off I-94 in Johnson Creek, Wisconsin about 2:20 p.m., Friday.
The last time anyone saw Timothy is when he and his mother were checking out of the Kalahari Resort in the Wisconsin Dells about 10:10 a.m. Friday.
Surveillance video from the resort shows Timothy to be wearing shorts that are possibly blue in color and a brown t-shirt with white socks. His shoes are not identifiable in the video.

Timothy Pitzen, 6, was last seen with his mother Amy Fry-Pitzen, 43, at a Wisconsin Dells resort last week. The last time he was heard from was Friday afternoon, when Amy made cell phone calls traced to the Sterling/Rock Falls area. During at least one of those calls to a family member, Timothy could be heard in the background and did not seem to be in danger. The next time Amy was seen was at Sullivan's Foods on Elida Street in Winnebago around 8:00 p.m. Friday, but she was not with Timothy. Friday night, she checked herself into the Rockford Motel in the 3800 block of 11th Street. She was found dead at the motel on Saturday afternoon. Police say she left behind a suicide note that said Timothy was fine and was in the care of unnamed persons.
Police say they are focusing on the Sterling/Rock Falls area after tracking the cell phone calls made on Friday. On Wednesday, investigators distributed flyers with Timothy's picture and physical description at rest stops, restaurants, gas stations, and other businesses along the I-88 and I-39 corridors in the Sterling/Rock Falls area.

Nationwide search under way for local woman's grandson
Linda Pitzen says her family’s cellphones keep ringing, but there’s been no news on the whereabouts of her 6-year-old grandson, Timmothy, who has been missing since last week.
However, Pitzen, a nurse at Chapel Hill Community nursing home in Canal Fulton, is confident Timmothy will be found as police officers, relatives and volunteers conduct a widespread search. The Wooster woman has traveled to Aurora, Ill., about 40 miles west of Chicago, to be with her son, Jim.
“Everybody is working diligently. There are a lot of things going on. Local radio and TV stations have photographs out,” Pitzen said. “... We haven’t had a sighting but somebody knows something. Somebody has seen something. This is a very populated area.”

Timothy Pitzen: Father of missing Aurora boy gives candid interview
The father of missing Timothy Pitzen, the 6-year-old who has been missing since his mother was found dead of an apparent suicide in a Rockford hotel, gave an almost 15 minute long interview to WGN-TV, on Wednesday, and talked about his missing son, his wife and what happened the day they went missing.
"I don't know why my wife did what she did. I don't know where my son is and it's just terrifying to know that my son is there with somebody I don't know, and I have no idea what my wife told them that would keep him away from his family," said James.

Search for Missing Boy Turns to Dixon
The search for a missing 6-year-old Aurora boy has been called off, nearly a week after he was last seen with his mother who was later found dead of an apparent suicide.
Authorities said the search would resume if new, specific information came in as to the whereabouts of Timothy Pitzen.
"It's frustrating. Every day that goes by reduces the chances for a good outcome," said Aurora police Lt. Pete Inda.
More than 70 people from various agencies, including the FBI, the U.S. Marshals Service, the Illinois Department of Corrections and police from Aurora, Dixon and Sterling, used dogs and planes Thursday to search for the boy, focusing their hunt in their area of Dixon, Ill.
Pitzen and his mother, Amy Fry-Pitzen, were last seen last Friday, checking out of the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wis.
