New squad headed to Myrtle Beach for Brittanee Drexel case‎

Myrtle Beach police have asked a specialized team of law enforcement professionals to review the case of a missing New York teen last seen in Myrtle Beach on spring break in 2009.

Members of Project Alert, a group of retired law enforcement professionals who are trained by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, will arrive Monday to review the case with Myrtle Beach police investigators.

Search for Brittanee Drexel set for this weekend‎

NewsChannel 15 has learned there will be a two day search this weekend for missing spring breaker Brittanee Drexel.

Searchers will be in Georgetown County looking for the Rochester, New York teenager who disappeared in April 2009.

There have been nearly 50 active searches for Drexel who was 17 years old when she disappeared while on spring break in Myrtle Beach.

Crews search coastal SC field for Brittanee Drexel‎

About 200 volunteers set out to search for Brittanee Drexel Saturday morning.

"We've got close to 200 people that have signed in. And we've got all those returning plus a few more tomorrow," Monica Caison with the CUE Center for Missing Persons said.

Professional searchers from eight different states rode ATV’s and horses and handled search dogs during the all day search. The large support team is just what Caison needs to cover the 12 mile radius she has set up for this weekend to find Brittanee Drexel.

"We're going to continue to eliminate space because that's what a search is,” said Caison. “It's a continuation of elimination of space and knowing where that person is not. And finally hopefully get to a place where that person is."

Second largest Drexel search wraps up‎

For the past two years, the location of teenage spring breaker Brittanee Drexel remain unknown.

Drexel, 17, of New York, disappeared April 25 after leaving the Blue Water Resort on Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach.

On Saturday 200 trained volunteers from the C.U.E. Center for Missing Persons, Charleston County Sheriff's Office, Georgetown Sheriff's Office, SLED, and the Myrtle Beach Police Department scoured the heavily wooded area. Crews searched with ATV's, horses, dogs, and by foot. They continued their search Sunday.

At the base camp, the Drexel family stayed waiting and hoping for a break in the search.

"It's very frustrating. You don't want to picture your daughter being out in the woods and not alive," mother Dawn Drexel says. "These searches are very physically and emotionally draining."

Brittanee Drexel's family returns to Myrtle Beach for two year anniversary

It's been almost two years since New York teen Brittanee Drexel went missing along the Grand Strand, and now her family has returned to Myrtle Beach.

Drexel's Grandparents, Carol and Al Wagner are in the Myrtle Beach area to get plans in place for two fundraising events in April, to mark the two year anniversary of Drexel's disappearance.

"I'm never going to give up hope that Brittanee's out there, and she's alive," said Carol Wagner. "Just bring her home safely to us. I know she'll probably need a lot of help, but we're there for her."

There will be two fundraisers, with all the proceeds going to the Cue Center for Missing Persons.

Georgetown apartment searched in Brittanee Drexel case ‎

Georgetown County Sheriff's deputies and SLED agents conducted a search at the Sunset Lodge Apartments in Georgetown Monday morning in connection with missing New York teen Brittanee Drexel.

Officers placed crime scene tape around the door of apartment 22. The search happened around 10 a.m.

According to a press release from Myrtle Beach Police, "the investigation revealed that a person(s) of interest may have stayed in this room on or around the time of the disappearance of Brittanee Marie Drexel."

Sunset Lodge residents told News 13 that investigators asked them last week about the person who once lived in apartment #22.

Residents said police showed them a picture of a bald man, and one woman described the man in the picture as a "Mr. Clean" lookalike.

Then the Sunset Lodge landlord told News 13 that the man who lived in apartment #22 around the time Drexel went missing was a Ray Moody.

SLED told News 13 that a Raymond Douglas Moody currently lived in Georgetown and had previously been arrested and convicted on numerous charges including committing a lewd act with a minor under the age of 14, sodomy with a child under the 14, rape, and kidnapping to commit rape in California.

SLED also confirmed that Moody lived at an address that matched the Sunset Lodge Apartments address at one point.

A woman who still lives at the Sunset Lodge claimed to "date the man police were asking about".

While she wouldn't release his name she said the man she was dating spent time in jail in California for rape and kidnapping.

News 13 spoke with Moody at his place of employment, but Moody declined to answer any questions.

Moody is a registered sex offender, according to records.

Moody had not been name a suspect nor a person of interest as of Monday.

Meanwhile, Drexel went missing from a Myrtle Beach hotel on April 25, 2009.

Her search has lead investigators to Georgetown, Horry and Charleston counties since her disappearance.
