INTERPOL issues global alert for missing six-year-old twin girls
LYON, France – INTERPOL has issued an international Yellow Notice missing persons alert for six-year-old twin girls taken from their home in Switzerland by their father who has been found dead in Italy.
Alessia and Livia Schepp were reported missing on Sunday 30 January after they were abducted from their home in St Sulpice in western Switzerland by their father Matthias, whose body was found near Bari in Italy on Thursday 3 February.
The Yellow Notice was issued at the request of INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau (NCB) in Berne and has been distributed to all of INTERPOL’s 188 member countries. Yellow Notices are circulated by INTERPOL to help locate missing persons, especially children.
At the time of their disappearance, Livia was wearing a green T-shirt, jeans, a violet ski jacket and Adidas trainers and Alessia was wearing a red and white striped T-shirt, jeans, brown jacket and black shoes. Both girls have blonde hair and are 115cm tall.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the sisters is asked to contact the Swiss investigating authorities on +41 21 644 82 31 or their nearest police station.
INTERPOL’s Command and Co-ordination Centre at its General Secretariat headquarters in Lyon will be treating any messages relating to this case as a priority and is maintaining close contact with NCB Berne to ensure any vital information is immediately shared and acted upon.

Twin girls missing after father commits suicide
Authorities are searching for six-year-old twin girls after their father died when he threw himself under a train in Italy.
Alessia and Livia Schepp were taken from their home in Switzerland by their father, Matthias, on January 30.
The Herald Sun reported that he sent the girls' mother, who is of Italian origin, a postcard from Marseille a day later, saying he was desperate and could not live without her.
Swiss police said he had withdrawn large sums of money from cash machines in that city.
IGN reported that the body of the 43-year-old Swiss national was found on the tracks near the train station in Cerignola, in the province of Foggia, after he was killed shortly before midnight on February 3.
The ANSA news agency reported that helicopters, sniffer dogs, trained rescue workers and volunteers have all been involved in the search so far.

His body was found on the tracks near the Cerignola Campagna in Italy's Puglia region on Friday - his car was found nearby.
Investigators said they did not know whether Mr Schepp had taken his daughters with him to France and Italy.
An extensive search is underway in Puglia involving French, Italian and Swiss police.
Rescue workers are investigating wells and water tanks as well as searching the area by air.

Missing twins spotted with father in Marseille
Missing twins who have triggered an international search were spotted in the French city of Marseille with their father last week as he bought tickets for Corsica, Swiss police said Sunday.
The father, Matthias Schepp, reserved "three tickets to embark (by boat) that evening for Corsica" at a Marseille travel agency on Monday, police said in a statement.
He was spotted there accompanied by his six-year-old girls, Alessia and Livia. The car he had been driving was found on Thursday at Cerignola in Italy's southern Puglia region, police said.
On Friday, 43-year-old Schepp committed suicide by throwing himself under a train at Cerignola's station. Police in France, Switzerland and Italy are now searching for the girls.
The Marseille boat left Monday evening for Propriano, Corsica, where it arrived the following morning, Swiss police said.
"In all likelihood, he had his two girls on board," they said. "But we have no witness accounts of this at the moment."

Police say they have no firm evidence where the six-year-olds, Alessia and Livia, were since their father Matthias Schepp had them at his home in a Lausanne suburb Jan. 30.
Some 40 Swiss police investigators and French and Italian police were broadening the international hunt dubbed Operation Gemelle.

Uncle says missing girls' father mailed cash before suicide
An uncle of the missing twin girls from Lausanne says their father sent his estranged wife 5,000 euros in several mailings from Italy before he was found dead.
Dr. Valerio Lucidi told reporters in Lausanne today that twins Alessia and Livia were playing with a neighbour's child Jan. 30 when her husband, Canadian-born Matthias Schepp, picked them up.
Their mother Irina Lucidi reported them missing that day.
Her brother, a Belgian surgeon, said the mailed money "worries us a lot" because it rules out the girls' father paid someone to take care of them.
Schepp withdrew thousands of euros in France but had only a few hundred euros on him when he was found dead Thursday in Italy where police believe he threw himself under a train.

Dr. Valerio Lucidi told reporters in Lausanne today that twins Alessia and Livia were playing with a neighbour's child Jan. 30 when her husband, Canadian-born Matthias Schepp, picked them up.
Their mother Irina Lucidi reported them missing that day.
Her brother, a Belgian surgeon, said the mailed money "worries us a lot" because it rules out the girls' father paid someone to take care of them.
Schepp withdrew thousands of euros in France but had only a few hundred euros on him when he was found dead Thursday in Italy where police believe he threw himself under a train.

Family of missing Swiss twins fear the worst
The uncle of Swiss twin girls who have been missing for a week said Tuesday the family feared "the worst" after they received money the father posted before he committed suicide in Italy.
Matthias Schepp threw himself under a train in southeastern Italy last Thursday, having failed to return six-year-olds Alessia and Livia to his estranged wife in the western Swiss lakeside village of St-Sulpice on January 30.
"We fear for the worst," Valerio Lucidi told journalists outside the mother's home.
"We received several letters from Italy, from the village where he committed suicide, with all the money he took out in Marseille," he explained.
Lucidi said that although the envelopes bore Schepp's handwriting, there was no explanation with the 5,000 euros (6,800 dollars).
"It worries us because the theory that he might have paid someone to keep the children doesn't hold any more."
"The fact that he sent back the money is worrying," he added.

Twin six-year-old girls missing for more than a week from their home in Switzerland were last seen on a ferry to Corsica with their now-dead father, says a Marseille prosecutor investigating the case.
Prosecutor Jacques Dallest told a news conference on Wednesday in Marseille that three witnesses had seen the twins on board the ferry.
Investigators had earlier been unable to determine if the children had taken the ferry after a witness reported seeing the father buying a ticket.

Italian bar owner says he saw missing Swiss twins
Police in southern Italy are interviewing a coffee shop owner who reported seeing a man and his two daughters - perhaps the missing Swiss twins - last week before the father apparently committed suicide.
If confirmed, the report places 6-year-olds Alessia and Livia in Italy for the first time since they were reported missing from their home in Lausanne, Switzerland on Jan. 30.
Police say Mattias Kaspar Schepp, the father, took them to Marseille, France, where they boarded a ferry to Corsica, and then went on to Naples, Italy.
Oriana Scelsi, owner of the "Fiore" bar in Cerignola, said Wednesday the father came in asking for a bathroom for one of his daughters.
Schepp's body was found Feb. 3 in Cerignola. Police say he threw himself under a train.
