Haleigh Cummings update: Two cinder blocks removed from River in murder investigation

The search for Haleigh Cummings has shifted into a murder investigation and the latest update comes from WJXT news. The Jacksonville, Florida news station reports that two cinder blocks were retrieved from the St. Johns River.

The cinder blocks are significant as sources have reported to law enforcement that Haleigh Cummings body had been wrapped up, tied with a yellow rope, then dropped into the St. Johns River in Satsuma, Florida attached to cinder blocks. The blocks, along with additional evidence have been transported for forensic analysis.

Haleigh's Dad Told To Make Funeral Arrangements‎

SATSUMA -- Haleigh Cummings' father was reportedly told to start making funeral arrangements for his missing daughter.

However, an attorney for Ronald Cummings said his client hopes the tip that led investigators to search the St. Johns River near Walaka was a false lead.

Investigators spent three days searching the river south of the Satsuma home where Haleigh disappeared from in February 2009.

Haleigh Cummings Case and Search Update – Authorities Find… Florida officials have found two cinder blocks in the river that they are searching for Haleigh Cummings’ body. It was recently announced that the case was moving from a search to a murder investigation.

Authorities need Haleigh’s body to examine, hopefully to find clues as to who her killer is. There are many reports and leads pointing at “Cousin Joe” from Tennessee who was in the area visiting when she went missing.

Some say that “Joe” took Haleigh from Misty Croslin by knifepoint after he couldn’t find a gun he wanted to steal.

Joe denies the claims.

The retreival of the cinder blocks is significant, as the lead has been rumored to state that Haleigh was wrapped up and tied to cinder blocks before being dumped in the river.

Whodunnit? Haleigh Cummings' Homicide Suspects Winnowing Away‎

With the Haleigh Cummings search turned homicide investigation, public attention is turned to the question "Whodunnit?" Simon Barrett of Blogtalkradio, who has been following the case since Haleigh first disappeared a year ago February, reported Sunday that Steve Brown, a private investigator hired by Haleigh Cummings' mother Crystal Sheffield, says he knows the answer to the "Whodunnit?" question. According to Barrett, Brown indicated that the suspect would surprise those familiar with the case.

In a April 13 report, Barrett talked of a male tipster whose information led to the Shell Harbour Boat Ramp search on the St. John's river, saying his identity "leads to a very intriguing possible chain of events that does tie directly to one of the folks currently experiencing the hospitality of the Florida jail system."

Attorney: Police Believed They Could Crack Misty‎

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- After taking Misty Croslin to the dock where divers scoured the St. Johns River for clues in the Haleigh Cummings investigation, the Putnam County Sheriff said he believes the teenager still holds information that is key to solving the case.

Ronald Cummings, Haleigh's father thinks Croslin may know more as well, according to Cummings' attorney, Terry Shoemaker.

"He's still hoping that if Misty did know something -- and it appears she did -- he's hoping it was something she was forced to do, threatened to do, and that's why she wouldn't talk to him," Terry Shoemaker said.

Labs To Analyze Haleigh Cummings Evidence‎
No Time Frame Provided For Lab Results

Evidence collected during a search for Haleigh Cummings along the St. Johns River in Putnam County has been sent for analysis, officials with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said.

The evidence was obtained during a three-day search along the river before Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy announced the search was over and Haleigh was likely dead.
