Asperger's boy 'sleeping rough'
Gerwyn Morgan needs to take medication.
A teenage boy with Asperger's syndrome who has gone missing may be sleeping rough, South Wales Police believe.
There have been several reported sightings of Gerwyn Morgan, 14, since he left home in Merthyr Tydfil at about 1500 BST on Wednesday, 24 September.
Residents have been asked to checked such places as outbuildings, garages and sheds.
Officers say they are becoming more concerned for the safety of Gerwyn, who needs to take medication.
Superintendent Tony Smith said: "Gerwyn is very young and we believe he may be sleeping rough and we are very anxious to find him to know he is safe and well.
"We are growing increasingly concerned for Gerwyn's welfare. He has not had his medication which it is vital he takes for his well-being.
"We are concerned he is putting himself at risk by not taking it."
Gerwyn was wearing cargo camouflage trousers, a blue t-shirt and a red sweater.
He is described as white, 5ft 9in (1.75m), with short untidy brown hair, thin build, spotty complexion and brown eyes.
Police ask anyone who notices "suspicious activity" in any outbuildings to get in touch. They also want to hear from anyone with information about Gerwyn.
Supt Smith said: "I'd urge anyone who may have seen Gerwyn or knows where he is to get in touch with us immediately".
Asperger's syndrome is a form of autism that affects how a person makes sense of the world. It can also cause problems with social skills.
Anyone who has information about Gerwyn or who knows his whereabouts can contact police on 01656 655555 or 01685 722541.

Mum at wits' end as missing son turns 15
POLICE are escalating their search for a missing schoolboy who should be celebrating his 15th birthday today.
Concern is mounting for Gerwyn Morgan, pictured, who disappeared almost two weeks ago and has Asperger's syndrome, a form of autism.
His distraught mother Carole Curtis said yesterday she lives in hope of good news every time the phone rings.
"Just come home son, we are all missing you and love you," she said in an emotional plea.
Mrs Curtis said: "I've tried to be strong because of my 12-year-old daughter but now I'm just breaking down. My husband and my mother are trying to be strong for me.
"My head is in a whirl. If I drop off to sleep I'm having nightmares. I don't know what to think. I'm at my wits' end. I'm just praying Gerwyn will walk though the door.
"He should be home with us celebrating his birthday."
Gerwyn was last seen at home at The Grawen, Brecon Road, Merthyr Tydfil, on September 24 around 3pm.
When his grandmother Gwen Thomas, 83, showed his mother the cards she had for her grandson Mrs Curtis said she just had to turn and walk away.
Detective Inspector Peter Pope, of South Wales Police, said last night: "We are growing increasingly concerned for Gerwyn's welfare.
"He has not had his medication, which it is vital he takes for his well being."
Yesterday officers were following up the latest unconfirmed sighting of the teenager, who left without money or a change of clothes and who they believe may be sleeping rough. A young boy was spotted near the lay-by at Storey Arms, on the A470 between Merthyr and Brecon, at 8pm on Saturday.
There have been several reported sightings of Gerwyn since he went missing.
Teams of officers have carried out extensive air and ground searches. The police helicopter has flown over Morlais Quarry.
Gerwyn's mother, who has been out searching for her son with family and friends, and put up missing posters in the town centre, said: "The police have been up to Cyfarthfa Park with the dogs.
"I've been up there with our dog Sheba. I know if Gerwyn had been around and saw Sheba, he would have dropped his guard and come to Sheba."
* I'm sure we can rally our troops together and help. Anyone near enough to help in search? Otherwise block email his photo to all you know. Thank you.

THE anxious family of a teenager who has been missing for more than a week is desperately waiting for news that he is safe and well.
Gerwyn Morgan, who will be 15 on Monday, was last seen at the family home in The Grawen, Brecon Road, on Wednesday, September 24, around 2.40pm.
No one has heard from Gerwyn, who has Asperger’s Syndrome and takes daily medication, and the police are concerned for his welfare.
His frantic family is appealing to him to come home.
In desperation, his mother Carole Curtis has made “missing’ posters carrying Gerwyn’s photograph and has been handing them out to people in areas around their home, the town centre and to lorry drivers, in the hope of receiving any information which may help them and the police to find him.
Mrs Curtis said Gerwyn had returned home from Penydre High School last Wednesday.
Her husband David dropped his daughter 12-year-old Bethan off in town to meet her and when Gerwyn wasn’t home when he returned he automatically thought he was on his way to meet his mother.
When she returned alone at 5pm the alarm bells started ringing.
Gerwyn had no money and no change of clothes. He wore black and grey camouflage trousers, a yellow vest top and black school shoes.
Mother-of-three Mrs Curtis said Gerwyn, who had helped her prepare a birthday party for his sister Bethan the day before, had gone missing previously.
“We are frantic with worry. The longest he’s been gone before is 10 hours, back in March. He doesn’t have a mobile phone – that’s what he is going to have for his birthday next week.
“Gerwyn’s autistic, he has Asperger’s Syndrome, he’ll just wander. He hasn’t got much perception of time anyway.
“My oldest son William has been driving around looking for him. Teachers have also been trying to find him. They’ve been absolutely wonderful at Pen y dre.
“I’ve walked the town centre, checking every back street, lanes and alleyways. Friends have been helping me. Shopkeepers have been very helpful.”
Gerwyn is white, 5ft 9in tall with short untidy brown hair. He’s thinly built, has a spotty complexion and brown eyes.
A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said there had been a couple of reported sightings of Gerwyn in Merthyr town centre area.
Anyone who has information about Gerwyn or knows his whereabouts is asked to contact South Wales Police on 01656 655555 or Merthyr police station on 01685 722541. His mother is also appealing for people to call her if they think they have seen Gerwyn on 07817 302454.

South Wales Police Statement:
“If Gerwyn is out and about we want to reassure him that he is not in any trouble but we need him to contact us or Mr Stevens so we know he is safe and well.”
Today the police were launching a massive poster campaign, hoping to jog people’s memories and gather information about Gerwyn’s movements within the last two weeks.
Rob, 55, a learning support assistant at Pen Y Dre school, has worked closely with Gerwyn as a one-to-one mentor for the last two years.
He urges him: “Don’t be afraid to contact me through the school or the police for a chat.
“You’re not in any trouble. We just want to see your safe return home and to school.
“If you only want to speak to me then the police can get hold of me. Someone else can contact them for you, or you’ve got the school number.”
Pupils have been told they should ring the police immediately if they see Gerwyn.

Missing Welsh teenager spotted in Bristol – appeal for information on behalf of South Wales Police (Bristol / Wales)

Missing person Gerwyn Hughes
Police searching for a 15-year-old boy, missing from his home in the South Wales Valleys for three weeks, believe he has been spotted in the Bristol area.
Gerwyn Morgan from Merthyr Tydfil suffers from Aspergers and needs to take medication for his wellbeing. He went missing from his home address in Merthyr Tydfil around 3pm on Wednesday, 24th September.
He was then spotted on CCTV in Merthyr Tydfil High Street on September 25th.
Since then officers have carried out extensive searches of the area, spoken to family, school mates and teachers and launched a Missing Persons poster campaign to try and find out what has happened to him.
They now believe Gerwyn was spotted at Bristol Temple Meads railway station at 9.45am on September 26th.
"We now believe that Gerwyn was at the railway station two days after he went missing from his home in Merthyr," said Chief Inspector Ian Bellshaw of South Wales Police.
"Gerwyn is very young and has been missing for three weeks. We are very concerned about his welfare and need to find out where he is.
"Though it is encouraging that we have another sighting of him in Bristol this was over ten days ago and we do not know what has happened to him since.
"It is not clear if Gerwyn was at the station having just arrived there or was trying to catch a train somewhere else. He may have returned to South Wales, travelled further afield, or he may still be in the Bristol area."
A dedicated voicemail service has been set up for this case that the public can call with information about Gerwyn (01685 724323). The number can also take text messages which appear as a computer generated voice when replayed.
"Some people may feel uncomfortable about phoning a police station or speaking to an officer if they only have a little piece of information they are unsure about," said CI Ian Bellshaw.
"They might worry that police will think they are wasting their time or that it won't be any use but at this stage any piece of information about sightings of Gerwyn, who he might be with or his movements could be a great help in finding him safe and well".
Gerwyn is described as white 5ft 9 tall with short untidy brown hair, thin build, spotty complexion and brown eyes. When last seen he was wearing a navy blue t-shirt with a TESCO logo to the chest, white black and grey coloured camouflage type trousers, a high visibility jacket and dirty black shoes.
Anyone with information about Gerwyn is asked to call South Wales Police on 01443 743 678 or Crimestoppers Anonymously on 0800 555 111. They can also call the voicemail service on 01685 724323 and leave a message.

This boy lives near to where im from. Think they said hes done this before too. Obviously hes very vulnerable because of his condition. I hope someone who knows where he is realises that he is in a vulnerable state and dobs him into police soon. He needs to be back home where he belongs. So sorry for him and his family. I hope they find him soon he could end up getting into trouble being alone out there.

Police search for Autistic Boy
"You won't be in trouble, please come home."
That is the message police searching for 15-year old Merthyr Tydfil boy Gerwyn Morgan are eager for him to hear.
Gerwyn, who suffers from Aspergers syndrome, has been missing from his home address in since October 24.
Chief Inspector Ian Bellshaw said: "I want Gerwyn to understand that he is not in any trouble - we just need to know that he is safe.
"If he's worried about getting in trouble for running away then I want him to know that he hasn't done anything wrong, we just need him to get in touch."
Police are continuing to carry out extensive investigations to trace his movements and are eager to hear from anyone who may have seen Gerwyn, or knows where he is to get in touch.
"I would ask anyone who has any information on Gerwyn's whereabouts to get in touch, no matter how insignificant they think their information may be. Any information about sightings of Gerwyn, who he might be with, or his movements could be of great help in finding him safe and well.
"We are extremely grateful for the help and support we have received from the local community and thank them for their assistance so far. However, I would once again appeal to homeowners to check outbuildings, sheds and garages and to reports anything that appears unusual."
The last confirmed sighting of Gerwyn was at Bristol Temple Meads railway station at 9.45am on September 26 - two days after he went missing.
It is not clear if Gerwyn was at the station having just arrived there or was trying to catch a train somewhere else.
Chief Inspector Bellshaw added, "Though it is encouraging that we have another sighting of him in Bristol this was over ten days ago and we do not know what has happened to him since. There is every possibility that he has now returned to South Wales as there have been further possible sightings of him in the area.
"I would like to reassure Gerwyn's family, all those who know him and the wider community that we are thoroughly investigating all possible sightings and doing everything we can to find him."
Gerwyn is described as white 5ft 9 tall with short untidy brown hair, thin build, spotty complexion and brown eyes.
