Berlinghoff Family Celebrates Without Jean‎

Jean Berlinghoff's dad woke up Thursday morning, realizing that he and his family will have to celebrate Thanksgiving without his daughter.

Jean Berlinghoff, 15 of Redding, has been missing since Wednesday, November 10. She's believed to be with Charles Berlinghoff, her 44-year-old uncle, who is a convicted sex offender.

Jake Berlinghoff, Jean's father, says that the week before his daughter's disappearance, Jean had been gushing about how excited she was for Thanksgiving.

Jake says he is trying to make Thanksgiving normal for the rest of his family and remains positive about his daughter's eventual return.

Car found in Redding teen's disappearance may have been abandoned a week ago

California Highway Patrol officers and Shasta County sheriff’s deputies converged on an area near Sims Road south of Dunsmuir this afternoon after finding the Oldsmobile that may have been carrying missing Redding teen Jean Marie Berlinghoff.

Shasta County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jim Beaupre said detectives were going over the car tonight looking for evidence, like receipts or fingerprints, which that might indicate where the car had been and where Jean, 15, and possibly her uncle Charles Berlinghoff might be heading. The car was towed about 8 p.m. back to Redding.

Uncle of missing Redding teen may have been seen‎

A day after finding the car involved in the case of missing Redding teen Jean Marie Berlinghoff, Shasta County sheriff’s deputies were in Castella on Saturday afternoon handing out fliers and talking to residents hoping to find the teen and her uncle.

Jean, 15, and her uncle, Charles Berlinghoff, 44, were last seen at the Redding home of Jean’s father on Nov. 10.

At least one Castella resident said she may have seen Charles Berlinghoff several days earlier.

Ali Lawton, a 21-year-old clerk at Ammirati’s Market in Castella, said deputies arrived at her store Saturday.

She said she told them a man with a shaved head and a braided goatee had loitered outside the store for nearly 2½ days last week trying to flag down a ride.

No sign of uncle, missing Redding teen; 'huge' search combs county's northern edge‎

A five-hour, 50-person effort that scoured snowy terrain in northern Shasta County for a missing Redding teen failed to yield anything new Sunday.

“(We) checked out everything we could,” said Detective Sgt. John Hubbard of the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office. “Based on the conditions we have here, we are pretty secure that we checked out everything and found nothing.”

Missing Redding teen a topic on HLN show‎

Wednesday afternoon, a missing Redding teen was again the topic of a national television program on CNN’s HLN channel.

Jacob Berlinghoff, 33, father of Jean Marie Berlinghoff, 15, appeared on the “Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell” show Wednesday at 4 p.m. In the show, Velez-Mitchell “takes a stand on some of the most emotionally charged issues of the day,” according to the show’s website.

Tips on missing Redding teen don't pan out yet‎

Another day, another tip and another dead end Thursday for Shasta County sheriff’s detectives trying to find a missing Redding teen.

Detective Sgt. John Hubbard said his office received a tip from a convenience store employee in the McArthur area that they’d spotted 15-year-old Jean Marie Berlinghoff Thursday morning. Hubbard said deputies talked with store employees and searched the area, but the tip turned out to be unfounded.

New Warrant Issued For Charles Berlinghoff‎

warrant Monday for Charles Berlinghoff with bail of $100,000. Detectives won’t give details on what the new charges are because they say it’s confidential.

The first warrant was for concealment of a child.

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office tells KRCR the arrest warrant for Charles Berlinghoff was entered into the National Crime Information System, a computerized index of criminal justice information available to Federal, state, and local law enforcement.

This second warrant comes after “America’s Most Wanted” added Charles Berlinghoff to its website as a fugitive over the weekend. The site contains a complete profile on Charles as well as details about the case.

15-year-old found safe after Redding kidnap‎

Jean Berlinghoff, 15, disappeared a month ago from her Redding home -- the same day her uncle, 44-year-old Charles Berlinghoff, also disappeared. Police say Jean seemed relieved to see them, but also worried for her uncle.

"She was kind of shocked upon our arrival and was briefly detained. The suspect was shocked and said, 'Oh, no,' so we knew something was wrong. They all provided us different names. Subsequently the cousins came back and gave the true identity of the abductor and the victim," said San Francisco Sgt. Frank Harrell.

A third person was with Jean and Charles. Police have detained him and don't know his involvement. All three of them are being held at the Mission police station, waiting for investigators from Redding to arrive.

Missing Shasta County teen found in San Francisco‎

A Shasta County teen reported missing a little more than a month ago was found safe in San Francisco Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

Fifteen-year-old-old Jean Marie Berlinghoff was found in the city's Mission District, San Francisco police spokesman Albie Esparza said.

Officers were called to the area when the girl's adult cousin, who lives in the city, just happened to see her, along with their uncle, around 1:44 p.m. Saturday, according to Esparza.

The uncle, 34-year-old Charles Berlinghoff, and a second adult male, gave phony names to the officers, said Esparza. But the cousin, who has not been named, confirmed their actual identity.
