Parole deferred for man seen with missing teen‎

A man who was the last person to be seen with a missing Florence teenager had his parole deferred for two years.

Jacob Bumpass won't be considered for parole again until January of 2013.

Bumpass was the last person to be seen with missing teenager Paige Johnson, who has been missing since Sept. 23, 2010. He is not facing charges in connection with her disappearance. Her family testified at his last parole hearing in November that he gave her alcohol the night she disappeared.

Missing Ky. teen mom gets national attention‎

A missing person case out of Northern Kentucky is receiving more national attention.

HLN, formerly known has Headline News, featured the story of 17-year-old mother Paige Johnson was reported missing on Sept. 23.

The expose was part of the series "Nancy Grace: America's Missing ", which is aimed at locating 50 missing people in 50 days.

Covington Assistant Police Chief Spike Jones hopes the exposure brings new leads.

"I'm optimistic that perhaps the attention that it will receive will lead to something where folks may reach out to us and say that they saw or heard something that maybe valuable to us," Jones said.

The segment spent 40 minutes rehashing every known detail of the case including interviews with lead detective Capt. Teal Nally.

Nally said the police department is partnering with Eqqusearch, which is a private organization that will assist in the search.

Also, contributing to the HLN segment was WCPO reporter Jessica Noll, who has been covering the case on KyPost.com since the begining. She presented some background information on the case's only person of interest, Jacob Bumpass.

"Bumpass says that he dropped Paige Johnson off in Covington," Noll said during the live broadcast. "Earlier in that evening, he picked her up. They went and hung out at his place, and he has admitted to giving her alcohol at that time. He said he took her to Covington at 1 a.m., and he is the last person to have seen her."

Police Look At New Person In Paige Johnson Disappearance‎

Six months ago today, Paige Johnson disappeared from Northern Kentucky. Tonight, there are new developments in the case. Johnson was last seen September 23, 2010 with a friend, Jacob Bumpass. Bumpass, who was on probation at the time, has been sent back to prison for violating his parole. He is the focus of the investigation but has refused to talk to police. He has not been charged with anything tied to Paige Johnson's disappearance.

Now, Local 12 News Reporter Joe Webb tells us, police may have found another person of interest.

Since last September, the search for Paige Johnson has sent an army of professionals through East Fork State Park....an army of volunteers on their own searches and a person of interest back to prison. Still no sign of the 17-year-old.
Donna Johnson, Paige Johnson's Mother: "I know people know the answers that we need. I just wish they would step up and give them."

Donna Johnson wants Jacob Bumpass to tell police what he knows. He was the last person seen with her daughter. Bumpass's cell phone records indicate he was near East Fork Lake a few hours later. He says he dropped her at 15th and Scott in Covington. The phone records dispute that.

Flyers with Paige Johnson’s face imprinted on them have gone missing and blown away with the wind over the last six months since the 17-year-old disappeared. Now family and friends want to make sure the teen mom is fresh in everyone’s mind.

“[We] need more focus on making it real. If it’s in your face, how can you ignore it?” Paige’s grandmother Sharon Johnson of Florence, Ky. asked. “I want it in their face—it’s the only way to find Paige.”

Investigators look through new leads in Paige Johnson case‎

6 months later, still no sign of Paige Johnson‎

After Florence teen Paige Johnson went missing Sept. 22, her 2-year-old daughter Makenzie would cry for her mother every time someone came into the door.

Six months later, Makenzie has stopped asking for her mother.

"She is too young to understand what is going on right now," said Paige's grandmother, Sharon Johnson, 68, of Florence, "but Makenzie will grow up not knowing what happened to her mother."

Paige's family hopes community awareness of the disappearance, brought by events like a candlelight vigil set for 6 p.m. April 8 at the corner of 15th and Scott streets, will help find Makenzie's mother.

The Covington street corner is where Paige was reportedly last seen.

The family of a missing teenager and police are hoping to generate more interest in her case.

It's been six months since Paige Johnson disappeared. She was last seen in September. Friends, family and complete strangers held a vigil on Friday night at the last place she was seen, the corner of 15th and Scott streets in Covington. That's where police say she was dropped off by Jacob Bumpass.

"I wanna know what happened. Our whole family is just torn apart, we want someone to just please tell what they know," said Donna Johnson, Paige's mother.

Paige's Grandma Fears Being Cited For Posting On Utility Poles

Posting fliers on utility poles is against city ordinance, said Covington police chief Lee Russo. However, Jenny Roderick is continuing to paper the city with missing person posters in hopes of finding her granddaugher.
"I want people to know she hasn't been found. We are still looking for her," Roderick said.
Paige Johnson has been missing for almost a year. While her family hasn't given up, they believe some in the community have.
"I love her very much. Very, very much. I miss her so bad. She was excited about getting her driver's liscene and normal things she would be doing," she said.
Roderick is heartsick. She wants her missing granddaughter back.
"I try to fix things, and this, I can't fix."
Her number one mission is to find Paige. The 17-year-old disappeared last September. The last person to see her is behind bars on unrelated charges. Jacob Bumpass said he dropped Paige off in Covington but does not know what happened to her.

Jenny Roderick has posted thousands of fliers about her missing granddaughter in in northern Kentucky cities.

A pretty 17-year old girl, Paige Johnson disappeared last September and police have no leads in the case.

Now, officials in Covington Kentucky, are they're telling the girl's grandmother to remove her posters from city property.

While putting up them up in Covington last week, Ms Roderick was stopped by police and told that putting fliers on city utility poles was illegal.

Monday was Paige Johnson's 18th birthday, but the day serves instead of another reminder of her disappearance.

Birthday Party Held For Missing Teen

‎Paige Johnson disappeared last September. Today is her 18th birthday. Her family decided to go ahead and celebrate, even though the teenage mother is still missing and there is little hope of finding her alive.

Local 12's Joe Webb was in Edgewood where the party was held.

I'm here at President's Park in Edgewood where Paige Johnson often played as a little girl. That's why her mother picked this location. More than 200 people rsvp'd for the birthday party... not so much to celebrate, but to keep Paige Johnson's name and image in public, in hopes someone who knows something will speak up. Just days after she disappeared, fliers of Paige Johnson's image covered poles up and down Covington streets, where she was supposedly dropped off by a friend. Today, fliers have made their way south of Florence, weathered and torn... but still carrying a glimmer of hope.

Donna Johnson, Paige Johnson's Mother: "Of course, I have hope. I have to have hope. It's all I have. I hope every second of every day she would just walk through the door. So, until I know, I can't give up hope."

It's been 11 months since the 17 year old disappeared. Friends organized searches in and around Covington for months. Police spent days searching East Fork State Park after cell phone evidence led them there. Today will be a much different event.... a party.

"She always talked about turning 18 and I know it would have been a big deal to her and it upsets me she's not here for her birthday that she was looking forward to for so long."

A sad year for her family, but not a sad day.

"I'm going to celebrate. I'm not going to be sad. It's not what she would want. Try to make the best of it."

It's been a year of little good news for Paige Johnson's family... no arrests and few leads. The man she was last seen with is locked up for violating his probation, not for anything related to the disappearance. He's not talking.

Police determined to find Paige Johnson‎

Even as friends and family held a tearful birthday party for Paige Johnson this week, Covington police say they were out working leads on her disappearance.

For almost a full year, the mystery of what happened to her has haunted law enforcement in Kenton County.

"We still have officers assigned and we are going to continue to do this, and I have said this year ago, we are going to continue to do this until Paige is returned to her family," says Spike Jones of the Covington Police.

That commitment's shared by Commonwealth attorney Rob Sanders. He's not giving up on this case either.

Mom Wants Paige Johnson Declared Dead‎
Attorney Plans To Sue Person Of Interest In Missing Teen Case

The mother of a missing northern Kentucky teen will ask a court to declare her daughter deceased.

Paige Johnson was last seen Sept. 21, when a friend told police he dropped her off in Covington.

That friend, Jacob Bumpass, has not been charged in Johnson's disappearance but has been jailed for nearly a year on an unrelated probation violation.

He has declined to cooperate with investigators in the teen's disappearance, police said.

"It's been almost a year and it's been nothing but misery the whole time and we just want answers," Paige's mother, Donna Johnson, said. "I feel like this is helping Paige more than anything."

Attorney Eric Deters said Tuesday that he would file paperwork on behalf of Johnson's mother to have the 18-year-old declared dead.

Afterward, they plan to sue Bumpass for wrongful death. Deters said he could not plead the Fifth Amendment, which permits defendants to avoid incriminating themselves, in a civil case.

"I don't know if this is going to bear fruit, but I just feel so bad for this mother. I have children. If my kid was missing, and there was a suspect out there, I would do anything and everything to find out what the heck happened," Deters said.

Deters said he was initially contacted by a family friend about unauthorized fundraising in the teen's name.

"We are going to force him (Bumpass) to sit in a chair, under oath, and he's going to have to answer questions," Deters said.

The attorney, who said he was not being paid for his work, said he would continue his attempts to stop those efforts.

Covington police and the Kenton County prosecutor said they continue receiving tips and following leads, and they are confident they will find Paige Johnson.

Investigators said that even while leads still come in, they believe that Bumpass knows much more than he's willing to admit.

Johnson's family has held vigils and organized search parties and fundraisers but still don't know any more than they did a year ago.

"He shouldn't let a year go by without explaining anything that happened with Paige," Johnson said.

Deters admited it won't be easy. The case is an active investigation and police will only release certain records.

"I don't know if this is going to bear fruit but I think it's worth a shot," Deters said.

Deters said the paperwork will be filed next week; at that point Bumpass has 20 days to respond.

The one year anniversary of Paige Johnson's disappearance is next week.
