William Pilkenton, Aged 7, was visiting Tofino from Washington state with family; went missing from beach near vacation cottage

Police, rescue workers in Tofino searching land and sea for missing boy

Hundreds of people continued to search Saturday but could find no sign of seven-year-old William Pilkenton, the curly haired youngster who vanished a day earlier from a Vancouver Island beach.

As time passed, residents could only hold on to the hope the child had wandered into the bush and hadn't been swept into the sea.

"People are getting concerned, I think," said John Fraser, mayor of Tofino, B.C., the community from which William went missing.
