Hunt for abducted girl enters third day

Cina's parents, who are divorced, are involved in the construction industry and relatives have suggested that a "business deal gone wrong" could be behind the abduction.

It was common practice in China for people to kidnap children of business associates and hold them until business deals were settled, close friend and property developer Crown Xu told The Dominion Post.

Kidnapper could be Chinese, family say

The family of a five-year-old girl who was abducted in Auckland on Monday, believe the kidnapper could be Chinese.

When she was taken Cina Ma, known also as Xin Xin, screamed for help in Mandarin even though she is fluent in English, indicating the man was Chinese.

Sarah Li, the operations manager of the Chinese website Skykiwi.com says someone has posted a message on the site indicating they might know who has taken Cina. The information has been passed on to the police.

Police are reluctant to give away too many details about the case for fear of harming the chances of the child being safely returned, but reports say her separated parents recently fought about whether she should move to Australia to spend more time with her father's parents. Cina's mother wants her to stay in school in New Zealand.

Kidnapped girl Cina Ma found alive Very Happy Very Happy

Five-year-old Cina Ma has reportedly been found alive on Auckland's North Shore this afternoon.

It is understood that the girl was found in a cupboard a few streets away from where she was abducted five days ago.

Police say they have arrested a 25-year-old Chinese national in connection to the case.

The man has been charged with assault and police say they are not ruling out the possibility of additional charges being laid.

Cina Ma's family say they are overwhelmed by the support they have had from the public.
