Antioch Man Questioned In Fla. Girl's Disappearance
Year-Long Search Leads Investigators To Nashville

A recent tip has given investigators a new lead in their search for Haleigh Cummings, a 5-year-old girl who’s been missing for more than a year. That search apparently led them to Nashville and Joseph Overstreet.

Overstreet and his attorney, Shawn Sirgo, arrived at the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation at about 11 p.m. Tuesday. According to his Sirgo, Overstreet was called in by Florida investigators for routine questioning about the night Haleigh disappeared.

Overstreet is the cousin of Misty Croslin, the teenage ex-wife of Haleigh’s father and the last person seen with the child.

Overstreet, who’s now almost 21, was questioned in the days immediately following Haleigh’s disappearance, but has never been identified as a suspect or a person of interest.

Overstreet has told investigators he was in the area when Haleigh went missing from her Florida home but was in no way involved with the child’s disappearance.

Suspect in custody in investigation of missing 5-year-old in Central Florida, sources say

Sources told WFTV a suspect is in custody, but wouldn't provide any additional details. WFTV spoke to Haleigh's grandmother, but she said she's not allowed to talk about the search.

Investigators would not give out the exact location of the search, to keep onlookers away. Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy said someone's tip about "physical evidence" led them there. He also said Misty Croslin-Cummings has been moved from the jail to be interviewed.

Arrest Imminent In Haleigh Search?‎

SATSUMA -- The search is on for Haleigh Cummings. Misty Croslin was taken to the search scene in handcuffs Wednesday afternoon.

Croslin was seen talking to Putnam County authorities on the dock of the St. Johns River.

Authorities are now calling the area a crime scene.

A source close to the case told News 13 an arrest in the Cummings’ case is imminent.

Misty brought to river‎

SATSUMA - Misty Croslin, who was babysitting Haleigh Cummings the night the child vanished, was brought Wednesday to the St. Johns River where authorities have spent two days searching for the child's remains.

The 18-year-old has been jailed on prescription drug trafficking charges since January.

On Wednesday afternoon, sheriff's deputies drove her from the St. Johns County Jail in St. Augustine to Shell Harbour Road in South Putnam. Croslin was wearing a blue jail uniform and her hands were cuffed in front of her.

Croslin was escorted to a dock extending into the river and spent about 15 minutes there, said Rick Ryan, chief of staff of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

"We took her out there," Ryan said. "She was taken to the search scene and then back to the jail in St. Johns County."

Ryan declined to say why Croslin was brought to the site or whether she provided information that was helpful.

"I'm not going to discuss any investigative details," he said.

Haleigh Cummings Investigation Deemed Homicide‎

SATSUMA, Fla. -- The investigation into the disappearance of 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings was deemed a homicide by Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy on Thursday.

Hardy held a news conference at 4 p.m. as a search of the St. Johns River neared completion, WESH-TV in Orlando reported.

Hardy said Cummings is likely dead and that her body is somewhere in northeast Florida. It was the first time the sheriff had suggested that Cummings was dead.

Hardy said items were pulled from the river and sent to a laboratory for analysis. He said no arrests had been made in the Haleigh case, but there were several persons of interest.

Authorities Plan to Brief Public Today on Day 3 of Search for Haleigh Cummings

SATSUMA, Fla. -- Authorities plan to update the public this afternoon on the third day of the search for Haleigh Cummings at the St. Johns River.

A steady stream of investigators, dive teams and police officers drove to the dock. The number of people on the search Thursday morning numbered well over 30.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office once again sent its underwater search team, in addition to officers from Clay, St. Johns and Putnam counties.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement also sent its evidence truck.

Sheriff: Haleigh case a homicide investigation‎

(CNN) -- Authorities now believe Haleigh Cummings is dead and are treating the 5-year-old's disappearance as a homicide investigation, the Putnam County, Florida, sheriff said Thursday.

"At this point, I'm comfortable in saying I'm calling it a homicide," Sheriff Jeff Hardy said. He added that investigators are looking at "one or more persons of interest" but would not identify any targets of the investigation.

The sheriff spoke with reporters as divers completed their search of the St. Johns River, south of Satsuma, Florida, where Haleigh lived in a mobile home with her father, Ronald Cummings, and his then-girlfriend, Misty Croslin.

Hardy said the search was prompted by "leads" developed when people he would not identify began cooperating with investigators.

"People are starting to talk," he said. "We're hoping to make an arrest in this case," he said.

Holding up a photograph of Haleigh, the sheriff said: "We are trying to bring someone to justice for this little girl right here."
