AMBER Alert cancelled in SC
MADISON, GA (WIS) - Officials with the Georgia State Patrol say a hostage situation in Madison, Georgia is related to the AMBER Alert issued out of West Columbia.
The official with the Georgia State Patrol said the hostage situation is taking place at a Red Roof Inn.
A witness at a nearby business tells WIS News 10 that the scene at the Red Roof Inn consists of numerous law enforcement agencies. The witness reports seeing at least 3 ambulances, at least 20 police cars, including a SWAT team and some form of armored vehicle.
Another witness says that the local police in Madison arrived at the scene of the hotel around 9:15pm and cops have blocked off the road surrounding the area. Police have asked people in local businesses to stay inside. Police have instructed businesses around the hotel to turn off their outside lights. A witness tells us snipers are posted on the roofs of nearby buildings.
The West Columbia Police Department says that they have canceled the AMBER Alert in the state of South Carolina. In Georgia, however, the AMBER Alert remains. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says the FBI is taking over the hostage situation in Georgia.
The AMBER Alert was issued for an incident that took place around 11pm Saturday on North Lucas Street.
Officials with the State Law Enforcement Division say they are looking for 7-month-old Allim David Dietz and his 29-year-old mother Eva Arce-Perez.
Allim was last seen wearing a red shirt and a red pair of pants. Eva was last seen wearing blue pants, a black jacket and a white shirt. She is described as 5'0" tall and weighing 120 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
Capt. Seth Ziegler from the West Columbia Police Department said, "Upon our arrival, officers made contact with some witnesses that advised a lady and a child were forced into a vehicle, against their will, during which the suspect fired shots as he left."
Authorities say they are seeking 25-year-old David Dietz, Allim's father, as the suspect in this abduction. David is described as 5'11", weighing 198 pounds with brownish-blond hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black uniform with "POLICE" written on both sleeves and the back of the shirt. SLED says David is armed and that shots were fired during the abduction. Police are advising caution if you see him.
"He showed a wanted disregard for people's safety, so I would say yes, do not approach him, immediately call law enforcement as soon as you see anything relating to this incident," Ziegler said.
Authorities say David was a former City of Columbia Police officer and a probation and parole officer.
His family says he was currently working for the Department of Social Services.
Donald Berry was David Deitz's foster parent. He was too shaken up to speak on camera, but said David was a great son. Donald also said at times, Arce-Perez wouldn't let David see his son.
His foster brother, Matthew Barry, said he thought David seemed "harmless."
"He did not seem like he could do anything like that," Berry said.
Donald said police have already searched his Orangeburg home and David's home in Lexington. Police aren't saying if they found anything.
A fourth person involved in the incident has been identified as 17-year-old Jamie Lynn Burgess. She is described 5'0" and weighs 100 pounds with hazel eyes and short blond hair on top and dark hair on the sides. She was last seen wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. She may also be wearing a black hooded coat with fur on the hood. She has a lip piercing and braces with the wires off.
Officials aren't sure of Burgess' relationship to Dietz or the boy and his mother.
Police are looking for the group in a 2003 silver-colored Ford Explorer with the South Carolina license plate tag 516 VTY. They say the Explorer may have a missing side window and that the tag may have been removed.
If you have any information about where Allim or Eva might be, you are asked to call the West Columbia Police Department at 803-794-0721 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
