Imran Zilic is a 3 Year old boy who only speaks Croatian. He went missing from his home in WA 9 days ago with his father.

THE father of three-year-old Imran Zilic is to appear in court today charged with murdering his son.

A police spokesman said Aliya Zilic was scheduled to appear in Perth Magistrates Court, where he is likely to be formally charged ahead of an application by South Australian police for his extradition to that state.

Mr Zilic has been held under a mental health order in a Perth hospital after he was found in Kununurra, in Western Australia's north, on May 1.

Mother of murdered boy dumped in mine shaft found dead

The mother of a boy whose body was found in an outback mine shaft has been found dead in her Perth home.

West Australian police say the body of Mirsada Halilovic, the mother of toddler Imran Zilic, was found at her Alexander Heights property in Perth's east on Tuesday last week.

There were no suspicious circumstances, a spokesman said.

Ms Halilovic was 30 years old.

A FATHER slit his toddler son's throat with a steak knife and threw him down a disused mineshaft because the boy was "the devil's helper", a court has been told.

Aliya Zilic, 33, has been charged with the murder of Imran Zilic, 3, at Coober Pedy between April 20-24 last year.

During a trial by judge alone, prosecutor Jim Pearce today told the Supreme Court Zilic was a drug addict and schizophrenic who believed his ex-wife, Mirsada Halilovic, was "working for the devil" and "possessed by demons".

Aliya Zilic, 34, has pleaded not guilty to the boy's murder and has gone on trial in the South Australian Supreme Court.

Justice Margaret Nyland, sitting without a jury, will consider if he killed the boy, as alleged by the crown, and also if he was mentally competent at the time.

She will take evidence from three psychiatrists who, prosecutor Jim Pearce said, were generally unanimous in the view that Zilic was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia at the time of the killing in April 2008.

Outlining the case on Wednesday, Mr Pearce said Zilic had a history of drug abuse and mental health issues and was physically and verbally abusive to his wife Mirsada Halilovic.

Toddler killer Aliya Zilic mentally incompetent to commit murder, judge finds

THE father who killed his son and threw his body down a Coober Pedy mine shaft has been found not guilty of murder due to mental incompetence.

But Aliya Zilic will be held in custody indefinitely under a mental health supervision order.

Justice Margaret Nyland handed down the decision in the Supreme Court this morning.

Zilic had been charged with the murder of Imran Zilic, 3, at Coober Pedy between April 20-24, 2008.

During a trial by judge alone, prosecutor Jim Pearce told the court last year that Zilic was a drug addict and schizophrenic who believed his er wife,Mirsada Halilovic, was "working for the devil" and "possessed by demons".

The court heard Zilic told police he believed his son to be in the hands of God.
