Hindu funeral for Yadav Munohur held this morning

A SCHOOL project may be the only clue as to why little Yadav Munohur was attracted to the creek that took his life.
At a private funeral today, Yadav was farewelled in a Hindu service attended by his family, police and a friend he had made during his short time in Australia.

The nine-year-old, who could not swim, had become fascinated with water and was headed for the Melbourne Aquarium on a school excursion in the days after he drowned in Gardiners Creek.

The project, found by police in his school bag, was the only clue of what he was thinking when he disobeyed his mum and left the house to explore the fast flowing creek.

It would be his last adventure.

From a post on Facebook!!

A body found in a Melbourne creek today has been formally identified by his parents as that of missing nine-year-old boy Yadav Munohur, police said....links to story below.
My deepest and most heartfelt sympathy goes out to Yadav's parents and sisters. So sorry.

Also a mention for the police involved in his search, they always try their hardest when a child's involved and must be devastated.

It appears it may have been a tragic accident as police had always feared he had drowned when the creek rose during rain on the night he disappeared. A lady left a post on the wall earlier saying she walked past that area on the night and the water level was well above the creek bank, flooding the footpath and making it quite dangerous.

Oz boy of Indian origin Yadav's fascination for water led to his death

The Australian Police have said that the nine-year-old boy of Indian origin Yadav Munohur had a strong fascination for water, and this may have been the reason why he was attracted towards the Gardiners Creek where he drowned to death on August 7.

The police maintained that the nine-year-old school boy had been "fascinated with water and sea creatures" when he supposedly disappeared into the Gardiners Creek.

Sergeant Chris Jones said that a search of Yadav's school bag had found homework about sea creatures, water and rainfall, and that the primary school student was also due to attend an excursion to Melbourne Aquarium, reported The Age.

Hawthorn boy Yadav Munohur, whose body was found on Saturday from the Gardiners Creek, opposite the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club, was cremated this morning laid to rest at the Springvale Botanical Cemetery yesterday.

After the funeral, Sergeant Chris Jones said: "We can't presume anything. But we believe he was fascinated with water, it was on his mind. We don't know how, why or what drew him to the water."

Yadav disappeared on August 7 after a disagreement with his mother about going to H.A. Smith Reserve, near his family's Glenferrie Road flat, to play. Later, on August 21, CityLink construction workers found his body in Gardiners Creek.

Police today said the search for Yadav, who had only arrived in Australia four months ago with his adopted family, had been heart wrenching.

Touched by story of a little boy lost, police turn out to say farewell

HE MIGHT have begun his short life abandoned or lost on the streets of Mumbai, but Yadav Munohur was farewelled from it with a police guard of honour.

The story of the adopted boy found drowned in Gardiners Creek last week so touched the police who spent two weeks searching for him, they wanted to attend his funeral, and the family asked if they could provide an honour guard.

One of the officers involved in the search, Senior Constable Chris Jones, read a short eulogy in which he told how the nine-year-old's disappearance had touched not only the police but the whole community.

I cannot find any other news relating to Yadav.

It looks like this was a tragic accident.

Yadav was facinated by water and the creatures that lived in it!!

It was raining heavily the evening Yadav wandered off and went to the creek. Witnesses have confirmed that the creek was high and fast flowing that evening and was overflowing on to the foothpaths nearby !!!

A hindu Prayer

The Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra - The Life-Giving Prayer

Om trayambakam yajaamahe sugandhim pushtivardhanam
Urvaarukamiva bandhanaan mrityor muksheeya maamritaat.

MEANING: We worship the three-eyed One (Lord Siva) Who is fragrant and Who nourishes well all beings; may He liberate us from death for the sake of immortality even as the cucumber is severed from its bondage (to the creeper).
