Kaelin Rose Glazier
AGE PROGRESSED
Name: Kaelin Rose Glazier
Place: Ruch, Oregon
Born: May 1st, 1981
Description: White Female,
5' 6" (at disappearance),
115 lbs (at disappearance),
Blue eyes,
Small scar below chin
On November 6, 1996, at approx 7:40 pm PST, Kaelin Glazier left the residence of Billy Frank Simmons en route to meet her mother at a nearby church in Ruch, Oregon, but never arrived there. Billy Frank Simmons, 18, of Ruch, is a person of “interest” as he was the last known person to see Kaelin before she disappeared. They're also looking for a car formerly owned by Barbara Simmons -- a gold 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass with Oregon license QEC 803.
Kaelin Glazier was last seen wearing a long-sleeved olive green-colored sweater over a short-sleeved gray t-shirt. The t-shirt bore an emblem on it. She also had on light-colored tennis shoes (possibly Keds), two hair clips, and a necklace. She was wearing silver hoop earrings. The lower picture on the left shows how she might look today.
She disappeared after visiting Simmons at his grandparents' home at 100 Johnson Road in Ruch. Kaelin was 15 at the time and a sophomore at South Medford High School.

A brief history of the case
* Nov. 6, 1996 — Kaelin Rose Glazier, a 15-year-old sophomore at South Medford High School, disappears while walking several blocks from her rural Ruch home to a youth group meeting at Applegate Christian Fellowship. She had stopped to visit a friend and was last seen heading down Haven Road to Highway 238. When she didn't arrive at church or home that night, her mother, Kimberly Cruz, called the Jackson County Sheriff's Department to report her missing. Officials first suspect she might be a runaway.
* November 1996 — The family and volunteers join the sheriff's department and Oregon State Police in combing the hillsides and ditches. The family hires a private investigator. They can't find her or any clear evidence that indicates whether she ran away or met with foul play, news reports at the time said. The Polly Klass Foundation in California and the Heidi Search Foundation based in Texas and Found Kids Foundation provide help.
* December 1996 — The Jackson County Major Crime Team takes up the case as concerns mount.
* May 14, 1997 — A national direct-mail marketing company sends out fliers, following family efforts to distribute information via truckers and local posters.
* Aug. 11, 1997 — Cruz talks about the case on a Geraldo Rivera television talk show special on missing children. She also appears on Maury Povich's and Montel Williams' shows in the first year after Kaelin's disappearance.
* Jan. 18, 1999 — Investigators identify Billy Frank Simmons, a Ruch teenager who was the last known person to see Kaelin alive, as a "person of interest" in the case, which detectives fear might be getting stagnant.
* Nov. 6, 2000 — On the fourth anniversary of Kaelin's disappearance, local and national law enforcement officials put out another public call for clues. They have followed more than 500 leads in the case and have used search teams, dogs, volunteers, aircraft and psychics to seek evidence, with no results. Foul play is suspected.
* June 26, 2003 — The Carole Sund/Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation, an organization linked to three tourists who disappeared and were found murdered near Yosemite National Park in 1999, offers a $5,000 reward for information about Kaelin.
* July 31, 2003 — The case is featured on "Without a Trace," a CBS drama about an FBI team that tracks missing people. Each episode includes a segment about an actual case.

Glazier mystery focuses on killer
The investigation continues into the murder of Kaelin Rose Glazier, whose remains were found Tuesday in Ruch nearly 12 years after she went missing, and no arrests have been made.
Jackson County Sheriff's Office investigators are taking care to build a strong case against whomever might have killed the South Medford High School sophomore.

Day of grief for slain girl's family
Discovery of Kaelin Rose Glazier's body ends 12 years of hope for missing 15-year-old, revives push of justice.
Kaelin Rose Glazier’s family makes a brief statement Friday during a press conference announcing that the 15-year-old girl’s remains have been found outside Ruch. From left are Jeff Bates, Kaelin’s uncle; Kimberly Cruz, Kaelin’s mother; Cruz’ daughter Claire; and Richard Bates, Cruz’s father.Bob Pennell
The family of Kaelin Rose Glazier, who vanished 12 years ago, received a small measure of closure Thursday after the girl's remains were found near Ruch.
Police determined the girl was murdered and dumped in the vicinity of Johnson Road in rural Ruch.
A public memorial service for Kaelin Rose Glazier will begin at 11 a.m. May 1 at the Applegate Christian Fellowship amphitheater at 7590 Highway 238 in Jacksonville.
"We are not going to discuss specific details of this case quite yet," said Jackson County Sheriff Mike Winters during a press conference Friday. "We do not want to hurt our chances of successfully prosecuting the person responsible for her death."
A man working on his property discovered the remains, Winters said. They were then turned over to State Medical Examiner Dr. James Olson, who determined the girl died from "homicidal violence."

They hope the $5,000 will be incentive for someone to step forward with information to solve the teenager's 12-year-old murder

Glazier was last seen Nov. 6, 1996, at the home of Billy Frank Simmons, who lived in the 100 block of Johnson Road in Ruch. She was 15 at the time and a sophomore at South Medford High School.
In April 2008, a man working along Johnson Road found her remains in a field not far from Simmons' home. Several large searches over the years by police, volunteers, dogs and even psychics, failed to turn up the body.
Simmons remains the primary suspect in Glazier's murder, according to law enforcement officials. He was arrested in July 2008 for probation violation charges, but has since been released from the Jackson County Jail. His whereabouts are unknown, though Jackson County Sheriff Mike Winters said he believes Simmons still resides in the area.

Simmons pleads not guilty in Glazier murder case
MEDFORD, Ore. - The man accused of killing a 15-year-old Ruch girl over 13-years-ago plead not guilty in Jackson County Court Monday.
30-year-old William Frank Simmons is charged with murder in the death of Kaelin Glazier in 1996.
Police arrested Simmons for the murder last month. He remains behind bars without bail. The murder charge carries a life sentence with a mandatory minimum of 25 years in prison.
Simmons' attorney has requested a few months to go through the thousands of pages of paperwork about the case before setting a trial date.
Simmons' attorney plans to object to the judge set for the case, saying the chosen judge worked in the Jackson County District Attorney's Office during much of the investigation.
Pretrial is set for July 12th. It could take six months to a year before the case goes to trial.

In April, 30-year-old William Frank Simmons was charged with the murder of Kaylin Glazier in 1996. On Thursday, a Jackson County judge set February 8, 2011 as the start date for the trial, which is expected to last up to three weeks.

Simmons found guilty of manslaughter
Manslaughter conviction in Kaelin Glazier case ... but new 'vital information' claim delays sentencing
William Frank Simmons showed little reaction as a Jackson County jury found him guilty of first-degree manslaughter Tuesday afternoon, but not guilty of murder in the 1996 death of Kaelin Glazier.
Simmons' mother cried as Circuit Court Judge Benjamin Bloom polled the jury at the request of Simmons' public defender Andrew Vandergaw. The jurors deliberated for about 10 hours before finding Simmons guilty of manslaughter in a 10 to 2 vote.
In order for the jury to have considered the lesser charge, at least 10 had to have found Simmons not guilty of the murder charge.
Vandergaw also requested that Simmons' sentencing for the Measure 11 crime be delayed at least one month "due to additional information that might have substantial bearing (on the verdict)."
District Attorney Mark Huddleston and Bloom agreed to the request. During the trial, outside the presence of the jury, Vandergaw put the court on notice that there was a person who had come forward stating he or she had "vital information" about the case.
But the defense had not had time to fully investigate the claims.
Outside the courtroom Tuesday, Huddleston said he did not rule out the possibility that the information Vandergaw referenced, but did not elaborate upon, might impact the verdict.
"We'll just have to wait and see if there is anything that will affect this verdict," Huddleston said outside the courtroom.
Kaelin's mom, Kimberly Cruz Waller, and other family members left the courthouse immediately following the verdict.

Judge denies new trial for Simmons
He was convicted February of manslaughter in 1996 death of Kaelin Glazier
Kaelin Glazier's mother expressed relief that a Jackson County Circuit Court judge on Friday denied William Frank Simmons' motion for a retrial of his February manslaughter conviction in the 1996 death of the Ruch teen.
"I was in tears of relief," said Kimberly Waller. "Somebody needs to be held accountable. I was really upset by the prospect of a new trial."
Simmons' attorneys, Andrew Vandergaw and Michael Bertholf, after presenting new testimony Friday from Waller's former husband and two of her former friends, vowed to continue their appeals to overturn Simmons' Measure 11 sentence.
Simmons, 32, was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter in the death of the 15-year-old girl in a 10-2 vote on Feb. 14 after a two-week trial and 10 hours of deliberation by the jury. One month later, Judge Benjamin Bloom sentenced Simmons to a decade in prison for the Measure 11 crime, plus a $2,765 fine and three years' post-prison supervision.
Vandergaw and Bertholf immediately filed an appeal objecting to the inclusion of the lesser manslaughter charge. They also asked Bloom for a new trial based on the 11th-hour statement of an Ashland woman, Serena Beach, who said Kaelin's stepfather, Robert Glazier, made incriminating statements to Beach in either 2003 or 2004.
Beach on Friday testified that Glazier told her during a conversation outside the Ashland Co-op that he "was there when she came into this world and I was there when she went out."
Beach said Glazier acted strangely during the conversation, rolling his eyes around in his head and stating he knew Kaelin was dead and that her body was "down the road," she said.
Beach said she is friends with Waller and Kaelin's birth father, Paul Haueisen. Beach said she and Haueisen always had a "gut feeling" that Glazier was involved in Kaelin's disappearance. But she did not come forward to police about Glazier's alleged comments because she feared for her own safety, because Kaelin's body had not been found, and because she mistrusted police.
"I've paid internally for not coming forward sooner," Beach said.
Beach did immediately tell a friend, Mary Moore, about the conversation.
"(Beach) felt like (Glazier) realized he'd said too much and he asked where she lived," Moore testified, adding she told other people and it was her understanding Haueisen told police about Beach and Glazier's conversation.
Glazier, 65, testified he knew he was viewed as a suspect in Kaelin's disappearance by some people. But Glazier also voiced his own suspicions about yet another potential suspect.
