Sighting of Girl Matching Hailey Dunn's Description

It’s been three weeks to the day since 13-year-old Hailey Dunn went missing from Colorado City.
Today, there were reports that some sighted a girl with Hailey’s description in Mitchell County.
Its the latest in hundreds of leads that officials are still following this afternoon.
Deputies in Scurry County tell us they were alerted by Mitchell County that a girl matching Hailey’s description got into red car heading into Scurry County on Highway 208.
Officials say they were never able to locate the red car.

'False alarm' reported in case of missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn

A possible sighting of missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn was a false alarm, officials with the task force said this morning.

Investigators received a tip that Hailey was spotted in a pickup on Highway 208 near Dunn, which is 10 miles north of Colorado City.

“They checked out a possible sighting, but there was no substance to it,” said Pete Kampfer, city manager in Colorado City who is acting a spokesman for law enforcement in the case.

More Help To Find Hailey‎

KTXS has learned that more help will be arriving Monday night to find Hailey Dunn.

Marc Klaas of the KlaasKids Foundation tells KTXS News that their search and rescue director, Brad Dennis, along with representatives of the Texas based Laura Recovery Center will arrive in Colorado City Monday night.

Klaas says those arriving will work with volunteer searchers as well as law enforcement to find a sustainable way to search.

Colorado City Will Add Two Officers To Search For Missing Girl‎

Colorado City will add two police officers to their force to help search for missing teen Hailey Dunn.

KTXS News has talked with Pete Kampfer, the city manager of Colorado City, and he says ads will go out today to advertise hiring two new officers.

Three weeks in to the search for the missing eighth-grader, Kampfer says many of the people who have volunteered to search have had to go back to their normal lives, but efforts need to continue to find Hailey.

Landfill search yields clues in missing teen case‎

A spokesman for the investigation into a missing 13-year-old West Texas girl says dogs searching one of three landfills turned up evidence in the case even as hope remains for her safe return.

Colorado City Manager Pete Kampfer declined to elaborate Tuesday on what was found or why the landfill in Abilene was searched in the disappearance of Hailey Darlene Dunn.

Abilene is 70 miles east of Colorado City, where the girl went missing last month.

KlaasKids sets up operations in Colorado City Civic Center in search for Hailey Dunn

Officials from the KlaasKids Search Center began setting up local operations at the Colorado City Civic Center this afternoon to assist in the hunt for 13-year-old Hailey Dunn, who has been missing for more than three weeks.

Brad Dennis, director of the search center for the KlaasKids Foundation, arrived Monday night. Today, he has been meeting with law enforcement officials and Dunn’s family to coordinate the search efforts.

“We are going to manage the search,” Dennis said of volunteer efforts to find the teen. “Then we will be training local people to do what we do.”

All volunteers will be asked to register at the Civic Center starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Dennis said that all volunteers must show identification, be in good health and be dressed appropriately for the environment.

SEARCH FOR HAILEY DUNN - COLORADO CITY, TEXAS‎

Representatives from the Laura Recovery Center and Klaas Kids are in Colorado City to organize a community search for Hailey.

Volunteers are needed to search help for Hailey. Search volunteers are asked to wear comfortable, warm clothes with appropriate walking shoes or boots. Volunteers must be 18 years old or older and have a picture ID with them.

Volunteers are asked to report to the Colorado City Civic Center at 157 West Second Street, Colorado City, Texas 79512-6304, 325-728-2072 at 10AM on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, and succeeding days. Look for a Laura Recovery Center banner at the Civic Center.

Volunteers will be briefed, organized into search teams, and given an area to search. Those not wanting to search may be asked to help in the Search Center. Search teams will be debriefed after they return to the Search Center and all information gathered will be shared with local law enforcement.

Missing Hailey Dunn: New Information of Mysterious Text Message‎

Law enforcement have confirmed a text message was sent from Hailey's cell phone at 2:00 p.m., to her friend, on the date of her disappearance.

Law enforcement have now confirmed, via spokesperson, Pete Kampfer, that a text message was sent, from Hailey's cell phone, to a friend at 2:00p.m. on the date of her disappearance. The text message simply stated “WYD”, (What are you doing?). Kampfer stated that no information concerning the text would be released, rather would be “held close to the investigation”.

Hailey’s mother, Billie Dunn, mentioned the text message on CNN’s Nancy Grace, January 18, 2011. Billie Dunn said, prior to the investigators taking the cell phone, she had seen the message; however, there was no response to the text, by the friend.

Law enforcement have cell phone records from this Verizon account, via Search Warrant for the cell phone records of Billie Dunn. Investigators are not releasing information concerning the cell tower’s location of the “ping” for this text.

Adkins' Lawyer: Phone Records Could Be Incorrect‎

The lawyer representing the only named suspect in the disappearance of Hailey Dunn, Shawn Adkins, says that phone records placing Adkins in the vicinity of the Dunn residence early on Dec. 27, when he told authorities he was somewhere else, could be incorrect.

Fort Worth-based attorney Sidney Lyle told KTXS News on Wednesday that, in his own experience, phone records can show use in one area when the phone user was in a different location.

An official says authorities looking for a missing 13-year-old West Texas girl are searching empty buildings and using dogs to scour additional landfills in the area.

City Manager Pete Kampfer in Colorado City said Wednesday that buildings in nearby Scurry and Mitchell counties were included in the search for Hailey Darlene Dunn. He declined to be more specific and wouldn't name additional landfills.

Hailey Dunn's brother no longer staying at home in Colorado City
Official: No body found in Coleman landfill

The brother of missing Colorado City girl Hailey Dunn is staying with a relative, family members said Wednesday.

Pete Kampfer, city manager of Colorado City, confirmed the report and said the Texas Department of Protective and Family Services was involved in the placement of 16-year-old David Dunn in another home.

Officials at Child Protective Services, however, could not confirm involvement in the case, said CPS public information officer Marleigh Meisner.

Otherwise, few new developments were reported in the case of 13-year-old Hailey, who was reported missing Dec. 28 by her mother.

Officials vehemently denied reports that the teenager's body had been found in a Coleman landfill Wednesday.

Investigation narrows in case of missing Texas cheerleader‎

A man authorities believe was the last person to see a missing Texas cheerleader is the focus of the investigation and his attorney said he has offered all the information he knows.

Shawn Adkins, the live-in boyfriend of Hailey Dunn's mother, is the only named person of interest in the girl's December disappearance, authorities said Wednesday.

Adkins' attorney, Sidney Lyle of Odessa, told CNN affiliate KTAB in Abilene he has advised his client not to speak further with the media. And he told affiliate KTXS that Adkins has cooperated with law enforcement.

Lyle did not respond to CNN's attempts to talk to him.

About 50-55 people are combing areas near Colorado City, searching for missing teen Hailey Dunn, and, for the first time, in a search coordinated with law enforcement.

The groups of people are searching areas at the request of law enforcement authorities who are also following their leads.

Hailey's Older Brother Moved Out Of The Dunn Colorado City Home‎

KTXS learned Wednesday that Hailey Dunn's older brother, David, has been taken into temporary custody of Child Protective Services.

Colorado City Manager Pete Kampfer said it is common practice to remove a child when a situation like this occurs.

However, on the "Nancy Grace" show Wednesday night, Billie Dunn told Grace that is not the case. She said her son is living with her brother and visiting every day. Billie Dunn said there was too much craziness going on, and she felt it was best if David stayed with her brother.

Cadaver Dogs Search Colorado City Landfill Today

Authorities confirmed to KTXS News that cadaver dogs from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice have arrived and will be searching the Colorado City landfill site Thursday afternoon for missing 13-year-old Hailey Dunn.

A worker at the landfill told KTXS that the FBI had notified landfill officials about the search. The dogs and their handlers came seven hours Thursday from Huntsville to reach Colorado City for the search.

Meanwhile, a frigid day Thursday decreased the number of volunteers searching for missing Colorado City 13-year-old Hailey Dunn.
