Dale Hill defense wraps up with testimony on condition of skull‎

The defense in the Dale Hill murder trial wrapped up Tuesday, with it's expert witness disputing the prosecution testimony on the condition of Stephanie Condon's skull when it was found.

The state's witness said earlier in the trial that the damage to the back of the skull was from blunt force trauma, and if it had been hit by logging equipment it would have been destroyed.

Dr. Dennis Dirkmaat of Erie, Pennsylvania, whose specialty is outdoor crime scenes and forensic archeology, told the jury that the injuries to Condon's skull could have just as well have been inflicted after her death.

Murder trial closing arguments start Thursday‎

The evidence is all in and closing arguments will start Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. in the Dale Hill murder trial.

Wednesday, attorneys called rebuttal witnesses to refute testimony from earlier in the trial.

A close friend of Stephanie Condon was called to the stand to counter testimony earlier in the trial by a defense witness. That witness had testified that Stephanie had gone to a back room of the home where she was babysitting with two older men, and the witness implied that she was doing devious things.

Renea Clark told the court that Stephanie only had one boyfriend the whole time she knew her, and that was just a short time relationship. "They were friends together and they saw each other for three days, approximately, it was definitely less than a week," said Clark. "Just holding hands and talking, and she broke up with him because she thought that it would, that her parents would be disappointed."

Fate of man accused of teen's 1998 murder now rests with jury‎

Dale Wayne Hill chewed his lip as his attorney read the transcript of a voicemail he left threatening suicide - and challenging an investigator to find the person who killed Stephanie Condon.

Hill's eyes turned glassy, and he wiped away tears as his attorney told the jury Condon wasn't the only victim in the case.

And Condon's mother Christine shook her head 'No' time and again as the defense made its closing argument. Her husband Marty cried and held his wife's hand as they sat in the front row of the courtroom as they had throughout the trial.

Prosecutors told the jury they had a job to do.

"Don't let him get away with this," Douglas County District Attorney Rick Wesenberg told the jury.

A jury in Roseburg has begun its deliberations in the aggravated murder trial of an Oregon man accused of killing a teenage girl in 1998.

KVAL-TV in Eugene reports that closing arguments wrapped up the trial of Dale Wayne Hill on Thursday, sending it to a Douglas County Circuit Court jury after seven weeks.

Jury reaches verdict in Dale Wayne Hill murder trial‎

After a day of deliberations, a jury has found Dale Wayne Hill not guilty on all charges in the kidnapping and murder of teenager Stephanie Condon.

Condon was 14 at the time of her disappearance in 1998.

Her remains were found in Glide, in 2009.

Hill was arrested shortly afterwards.

During final arguments, prosecutors said Hill kidnapped Condon, then killed her to cover up his crime.

The defense argues there has been no D-N-A evidence linking Hill to Condon's murder.

Jury acquits man in Roseburg-area abduction, killing of Stephanie Condon, 14

The prime suspect in the disappearance and death of a 14-year-old girl more than 10 years ago was acquitted Friday of aggravated murder charges.

A Douglas County Circuit Court jury found Dale Wayne Hill not guilty of kidnapping and killing Stephanie Condon, the Roseburg News-Review reported. Police had called the southern Oregon man their prime suspect in the case for years, and his trial began last month.

Dale Wayne Hill found not guilty‎

...... Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin says he firmly disagrees with the verdict. And says some key pieces of information might have changed the jury's mind.

" I do think there was certain evidence or facts that weren't allowed to be shared with the jury that, in my eyes convinced me that Dale Hill killed Stephanie Condon.")

We were unable to reach the Condon family.

District attorney Rick Wesenberg says this is a tragic loss for them.

Throughout the trial Hill has remained their only suspect in the case.

Even after his release today the district attorney says they won't be pursuing anyone else, he maintains that Hill is guilty.

With Hill now a free man, Wesenberg feels the person responsible for Stephanie's disappearance will never be brought to justice.

'Our suspect got away with murder'‎

Not everyone is happy that Hill was found not guilty. "Knowing what I know, seeing what I've seen as a result of this investigation, and how it's unfolded over a period of 10 years or more, there's just no doubt in my mind that he's guilty," said Hanlin.

Douglas County District Attorney Rick Wesenberg prosecuted the case, and says that he's saddened by the outcome. "I believe in the justice system," he said. "I'm just profoundly disappointed with our result today."

Hanlin has been on the Stephanie Condon case since 2002, and says that it's always been a huge priority.

After the verdict was read, Hanlin said again, that he strongly disagreed with the jury's decision. "There was certainly evidence and facts that weren't allowed to be shared with the jury, that at least in my eyes, convinced me that Dale Wayne Hill murdered Stephanie Condon. Unfortunately, the jury wasn't allowed to hear that."

Wesenberg spoke at a joint press conference with the sheriff after Hill was released. He told members of the media, "The sheriff's office investigated multiple suspects, cleared multiple suspects. We know who murdered Stephanie Condon."

Hanlin added, "Our suspect got away with murder. Bottom line."

We have to abide by the jury's decision and accept that this case is closed.

The police have no other suspects.
