The Hamtramck Citizen Detroit
9 December 2008
Police have little to go on in missing girl case
(snippet)
Detroit investigators have taken the lead in the case since the girl’s presumed origin of disappearance happened in Detroit. Hamtramck Detective Michael Szymanski is also working on the case since there could be a possibility that the girl went missing – or whatever happened to her – in Hamtramck.
Szymanski said investigators have absolutely no leads or idea what happened to the girl. He refuses to speculate.
“We all hope and pray the child is OK, and is with someone,” Szymanski said. “Somebody knows something. They just might be too scared to come forward.”
If this is the case, for that someone who has information about the girl but is too frightened to talk to investigators, there is an option for that person.
The national organization, Crime Stoppers, offers a toll-free phone number where people can call in information about crimes and remain totally anonymous. That means no one will track down the caller and force them to talk to investigators or testify in court.
You call the number, say what you know, and hang up.
However, if you’d like to leave your name and phone number and the case is solved, there is a $6,000 reward being offered.
The phone number for Crime Stoppers is 1-800-773-2587.
If you’d like to spread the word about Tangena, stop by The Citizen office and pick up a multi-language flyer asking for the public’s help. You can put it up at your store or office.

Re: TANGENA HUSSAIN 2 - Detroit (USA) - 02/10/08
How Long Does the Amber Alert Last?
When the effectiveness of the Amber Alert is deemed to have expired, the EAS will be deactivated with a message informing the public that any information should be directed to their local law enforcement agency. Usually an Amber Alert is not in effect for more than 24 hours.
More information here but sounds like the length of an Amber Alert depends on the police force involved!!

Missing Girl case still lingers on
(snippet)
Police investigators are still at loss to explain what happened to her, where she is or if she is even alive.
Complicating the matter is the cultural divide investigators face. The Bangladesh community, which Tangena is a part of, has given investigators little information and at times conflicting information.
Investigators have privately grumbled that the community has at times fed them outright misleading information.
One investigator was clearly frustrated when uttering: “The truth, simply tell us the truth.”
This much is known: Tangena was last seen on Oct. 2 when her mother’s boyfriend, Jamrul Hussain, who shares the same last name as the girl but is not related, took her in his car to pick up her mother at Northland Mall.
That’s where the mother works.
On the way, Jamrul stopped at a gas station for a pack of gum on Greenfield near Eight Mile in Detroit. Jamrul said he left the girl alone in the locked car while he went inside the store.
When he returned a minute later, the girl was missing.
Jamril then drove to pick up the girl’s mother, who then called police to report the missing girl.
After that, investigators searched the house where Tangena where lived and nearby yards in search of evidence that could tell investigators what happened to her. Investigators also searched another house on Lumpkin St. where Jamrul was accused of imprisoning a 15-year-old girl.
That matter was entirely unrelated to Tangena but investigators searched for evidence. At one point they brought in cadaver dogs.
The searches, investigators say, turned up little.
In the meantime, Jamrul, 24, was charged with kidnapping and raping the 15 year-old girl. That incident allegedly happened the February before the girl went missing in October.
Since then, the kidnapping charge was dropped and Jamrul instead faces a charge of having sex with a minor. He is in custody awaiting trial.
His lawyer says the charge was trumped up in order to make sure Jamrul did not flee and gave investigators needed time to piece the missing girl case together.
But it appears the case is going nowhere.
Unless, investigators say, someone from the Bangladesh community who knows something steps forward.
The girl’s mother has gone from defending her boyfriend, Jamrul, to questioning his truthfulness in denying he had anything to do with her disappearance.
He has taken one lie detector test but the results of that test were inconclusive because Jamrul was too nervous. He was going to take a second test but again he was too much of an emotional wreck to go through with it.
A $6,000 reward is being offered by the organization, Crime Stoppers, to anyone who provides information leading to the whereabouts of the girl. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-773-2587.

Re: TANGENA HUSSAIN 2 - Detroit (USA) - 02/10/08
I can't believe how little info is available in finding this little girl. No more news updates since January 2009.
Here is the Amber Alert full info:
The Detroit Police Department is investigating an incident of an endangered missing child, Tangena Hussain, age 2. The child was left unattended in a red, 4 door, 1997 Geo Prizm, registration BSH5480/Mi unsecured in the back seat in a remote location at 20500 Greenfield, (a Marathon gas station). while the child’s mother’s boyfriend went inside to purchase gum. When he returned to the vehicle, the child was not there. The boyfriend did not check the area for the child, but drove to the mother’s work location in Southfield and picked the mother up.
The gas station clerk stated she did not see the child. The attendant then called her employer who advised her to call 911.
Police officers checked the area and spoke with residents, but the child had not been seen. If Tangena Hussain’s description is as follows: 2 years old, 3 feet 2 inches, 34 pounds and has Brown eyes, Black hair and the following scars: Scar on upper lip/chin area from a new burn. Tangena Hussain was wearing Brown long sleeved tee shirt with a cartoon picture (unknown type). White (nylon silky type) cargo pants with multiple pockets, gold sandals. Tangena Hussain was last seen at 9 pm on 10/2/08 unattended in a red, 4 door, 1997 Geo Prizm, registration BSH5480/Mi.
The Detroit Police Department says Tangena Hussain was allegedly abducted by an unknown suspect. Unknown if the suspect used a vehicle. If you have any information on the alleged victim, abductor or vehicle, IMMEDIATELY telephone 911 or Sgt. McClure with the Detroit Police Department’s Violent Crime Task Force at 313-596-2300.
